Do not recommend going to the emergency when you have an emergency because they don't treat it as an emergency. I had shortness of breath and wanted to immediately see the doctor and the interns there asked me to wait after a 30 min long registration process. Well the waiting was for 1.5 hours and I was not allowed to remove my mask because I had difficulty breathing. There are a few idiots working there. Please be careful and stay away from them. They might take your life because of pure negligence.

I went with my wife to the emergency department and the shock was when I started to enter ... no one speaks English ... no one helps you if you do not speak German so some workers do not know which department we go they look like as strangers in the hospital.. personally think Austria deserves much more and should know that English is the mastet of languages and all employees should speak 2 language at least like others neighbors countries... I just takes my wife and wont to private hospital much better..

I went to this hospital at midnight because i was having symptoms of a stroke, when i went there they were all dismissive and rude. The doctor in the room asked me "What were your expectations when you came here in the middle of the night?" I told him i wanted to know Why i had the symptoms i had, he barely examined me and said "how should i tell you what your pain is at 12Am in the morning? you should go to your Home doctor." I was left speechless and left. This doctor was the rudest most ignorant person i have seen in that hospital. I had to go all the way there to leave in less then 5 minutes without any diagnose.

If I were able to give this place zero stars, I most certainly would. The level of rudeness exhibited by the staff at this hospital is simply unbelievable. Having visited numerous hospitals in Austria, I can confidently say that this one takes the crown for being the worst of them all. The staff, including the doctors, demonstrate a shocking lack of professionalism and empathy. Moreover, the overall organization is severely lacking, leaving patients feeling neglected and frustrated. It's truly disheartening that such an establishment exists, as it undermines the trust we place in healthcare institutions. There is an urgent need for significant improvements in the attitude, behavior, and organizational structure of this hospital.

I had to go in the late evening to the emergency room because of very strong pain in the abdominal area during the first pregnancy weeks. I was extremely scared and hope for some competent and friendly treatment. The receptionist was extremely unfriendly, the doctor was even more unfriendly. He didn't even speak to me or looked at my xray. Instead the assistant (or his student) spoke to me and did the whole evaluation. At the end, when they didn't find anything strange, the doctor made clear that I was not supposed to go there but go to my normal doctor instead. Which would be then available only after the weekend. So according to him, I'm supposed to suffer pain and sit around not knowing what's happening with my body. I wonder what's the hospital for then.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We are here from the United States for my daughter to study at a music academy in Vienna. I believe she had food poisoning and could not keep anything down, even water. Our US doctor advised us to go to the ER (nothing else open on Sunday) to avoid dangerous dehydration. She simply needed an IV and possibly some zofran. It should have been simple in and out. Hardly. They charged us a €500 deposit. Then we sat in the waiting room for hours and hours while everyone else was seen, many for similar complaints who arrived after us. We finally left without being seen by anyone because my daughter was so ill and needed to lay down. They had her in a hard plastic chair sitting up. They refused to refund my card before we left. I thought Vienna would be a modern city with at least adequate medical care. Not so. We were told that this was the largest and best hospital in Vienna. It felt like we were in a third world country. I pray no other Americans get sick while here. The medical care in this country is a joke.

I had the bad luck to end up in the neurology department where I was rightfully sent to by the main ambulance. At neurology I ended up getting a 2 minute assessment by an arrogant doctor who said "it was all in my head" and "you can call it imaginary". Even though I don't expect an in depth investigation by a general hospital, I certainly regard his whole demeanor not educated and dismissive and will certainly report this to the Ombudsstelle.

I simply wonder if they are real doctors I have multiple bad experiences with this hospital. The quility of every thing including the medical thing are very low, and you have to wait hours long to get your self even more sick. I so not recommend it! Every doctor there does what he wants and when an operation has failed or have later on side effects they try to throw it on each other.

As a tourist, definitely do not go there. After being informed by reception that the visit would cost 50 euros, the doctor changed the price to 150 euros! I also had to pay him in the consultation room. He checked my blood pressure, temperature and chest as I had acute bronchitis. The doctor did the examination poorly, he just rushed through. Did not check my throat, ears or nose. He prescribed antibiotics for three days, and told me that if I am not better in three days I need to come back. After three days I am just as sick as when I went in. I think he knew the three days course will not be enough. Will definitely not go back there. Stay away. Exploitation of patients feeling vulnerable.

(Translated by Google) Wait 3 to 4 hours if not longer. The doctors and the staff are sometimes overwhelmed! Had an appointment in the cartilage clinic at 1:30 p.m. I was there earlier and didn't get there before 5 p.m. !! The best thing to do is to register at the control center and then walk for 2 hours or eat something because it is not your turn to do so before that.

(Translated by Google) The doctors at the children's ward are really competent and friendly, but the doctors at Unfall Chriugie are simply disrespectful. I was in pain because almost my entire toe nail was almost completely torn away, the toe was constantly numb and the only thing the doctor says is you can't do anything except give painkillers, you could have done so many other things like just the nail tear away, however, when my father mentioned exactly that, the doctor came with the statement no, there could be a nail deformity but I know someone where that had to be done and there was no deformity and nothing and that my father was not dependent on me at 15 I think it is understandable that I want to give pain medication. Shortly after my father mentioned this, another doctor came and yelled at my father, so we just left and the main doctor shouted after us "I didn't invite you to come here" So I went home with pain again and now my parents treat it on their own with the risk of inflammation.A really bottomless cheek that these 2 men are still doctors if they don't even manage to keep themselves verbally within limits (Original) Die Ärzte bei der Kinderstation sind wirklich kompetent und freundlich allerdings sind die Ärzte auf der Unfall Chriugie einfach nur respektlos.

Broke my ankle while on Erasmus-exchange and am writing this review 2 months post-break. I really appreciated the frequent follow-ups (approx. every 2 weeks until cast could come off and then 3 weeks after cast removal). I must say my experience varied each time depending on the doctor but overall I had a good experience with all (some nurses don't want/can't speak English, but it's okay if they're good at their job 😄). It's also efficiently organised, so I stayed approx. 1 hour each time I came for a follow up (including x ray, cast care, doctor's advice). The language can be a barrier sometimes, so be sure to ask enough questions to understand well. Overall I was impressed with the care of the staff! Was always happy to come here and progress in my healing.

My mother is 95 and was admitted the day before yesterday for the second time within 12 hours. The first time they sent her home again where she immediately fell again which caused a bleeding wound on her head. I am a native Austrian but have lived in the US since 1994. I have a camera installed at my moms place and took a photo of her fall. We have applied for a Pflegeheim and waiting and when I called (19C) today to inquire about my mother’s well being I never got an answer. The woman just said that my Mom is taking up an “Akutbett”. My mother is not an item but a human being and me being so far away causes even more concern. One would expect more compassion from someone who works in the healthcare industry. I hear there are job openings for Billa cashiers where this attitude would be appropriate. It’s just heartbreaking and unbelievable.

I am currently pregnant and had a very bad night. I have been vomiting and having diarrhea for two days and decided I should see a doctor as I was severely dehydrated and I wanted to make sure the baby is not affected. As I don’t know much of the hospitals in Vienna I came to AKH due to a friend’s recommendation. The receptionist accepted me and asked me to wait. The nurse clarified why I’m here and I explained. She said I came to the right place. Then doctor called me in and said that as I look fine he won’t deal with my case because they only accept complicated cases. I asked what if I need an IV due to severe dehydration as I kept vomiting and having diarrhea, and his answer was just that they’re a medical university and my case is too simple. I was completely shocked that he wouldn’t even bother explain in detail and just dismissed me. In other words, unless someone is brought into this hospital by an emergency car, don’t bother coming here. The doctors are insensitive and quite unprofessional.

Imagine an insanely big McDonald's run by a retiring Soviet politician. It's like a McDonald's because they spend 2 minutes with you and you are out of the door before you even realized that you had questions. You get your cast, and no one cares about anything else. It's run like a Soviet Enterprise, because it's like a machine that never been oilied. I wait here on average around 4 hours the last 6 times i have been here. That for <5 minutes of doctor's time. The best was when the IT dept. took 2 hours to copy 400mb x-ray files from a USB stick, because it had a "strange file format". That was the universal FAT32. No one cared that I offered to put it online, instead I was shouted at by the nurse.

(Translated by Google) Under all sow. It's unbelievable how inhumanly one can treat sick people. Nobody knows their way around, you get wrong information, the nurses with gel nails and chewing gum don't even know which examination they are preparing for, whether / when you can eat and drink, when you have to be taken where, etc. Apparently there are none between the departments Communication takes place. I got in healthy and got out sick after not eating for 2 days. Instead of receiving information that should be taken for granted, the answer to a critical question was that I could leave at any time. Incomprehensible. I repeated the same important information 5 times, which nobody answered because nobody felt responsible. Complete diffusion of responsibility in there. Even in an emergency, 10 horses can no longer get me into this hospital. I would recommend people who see human dignity as inviolable to stay away from this building. (Original) Unter aller Sau.

I must say I had a very pleasant experience yesterday. Went to the ER after Covid with a racing heart and cold sweat - they did an EKG and blood tests in less than 10 minutes, doctor was able to diagnose the problem and treat it in less than 30 minutes total. Everyone was extremely nice and treated me with respect. Thanks a lot!

As a tourist avoid this hospital at all costs. Huge waiting times you have to pay 150 euros if you dont have an insurance and with the same price you can go to a private clinic and have a proper treatment. I had food poisoning waited 2 hours to be seen by a doctor and after a fast check up of blood pressure i was left waiting for 3 hours without any notice before i was seen again. I could have stayed at the hotel better. Not to mention the staff was impolite and nobody cared at all. Horrific experience...

I went to the emergency after an injury on my thumb. I waited about 45 minutes for my turn. The staff and doctors were all very friendly and compassionate even though they were all quite busy. Patients with an European Insurance do not need to pay for the treatment. Thank you AKH!

I'm giving the hospital campus a 5. As a medical doctor who's worked in the oldest hospital in Bulgaria, it pales compared to this. I've visited it to sit an exam in anesthesia and it was well organized. I haven't gone inside but judging by how they treat their students it's obvious that the medical service is of high quality too.

Such bureaucractic! My 3 year oldson cant visit his Mama and new-born brother. I have to leave the boy 5 minutes in the lobby and bring some stuff upstairs to my wife. The woman , who sits at the main entrance and can decide whom to enter, even told me to ask my wife to come down to get the stuff. Isn't it ridiculous? And she is a woman! Try to imagine the face of the woman. Maybe i am an Asian. She may not dare to say that to a Austrian. I have to leave my boy alone at the lobby. In 4 minutes i come back from 15th floor. And two securities (with orders from the woman) came and ask me to leave. Cruel! Shame on this. Even in China this won't happen!!!

I went to ER this morning, apprehensive as a foreigner going to a hospital especially after reading many of the negative reviews here. However, all of the staff that I met where friendly and spoke good English. I was particularly impressed by the doctor I saw; extremely thorough, taking the time to go through my medical history in detail and observe me thoroughly before undertaking many different tests and offering me some treatment. Extremely impressed!

I took my kid there in October 2014 for a belly pain. It turned out to be an appendicite. He was admitted urgently, had a surgery within 2 hours. Everything went smoothly. I went on other occasions. Sometimes I had to wait for more than an hour, but that was fine. They have professional staff.

(Translated by Google) Had an appointment at 9:00 am, was there shortly before nine o'clock in order to get there in time, only to arrive at a crowded waiting room (20 people in the smallest of spaces - and that at the time of Corona). After an hour of waiting I went to the counter to ask how long it would take. There an annoyed sister tells me: "What do you want, you wait an hour anyway." Boom That's great! After another three hours it was my turn. Terrible, human unworthy conditions. And that in the middle of Austria. Apparently you have to know a doctor to get it faster or to have additional insurance. Welcome to the two class society. Unfortunately, I am forced to revise my past review, due to a really unpleasant episode, which happened a few days ago. Just yesterday I received the report of an MRT, in which not only the mention of my previous reports is omitted (also of examinations performed in the same AKH), but even important diagnoses - already certified in the previous aforementioned medical examinations - have been deleted. I do not think that the treatment I have recently undergone, which finds no logical reason, lives up to the reputation of this hospital.

(Translated by Google) Multiple outpatient clinic = a pure imposition ... You get an appointment and then each time you wait 2.5-3 hours. Unfortunately, it is not an exception, I already had 14x examinations last week and have never been treated for a period of time. Unfortunately there is only one sister Ms. Schreiner, who is extremely overwhelmed and always just rude to every pregnant woman and the doctors. The atmosphere there is just totally tense and unfriendly. It's proper a nice job, watching the babies grow and not busy either. There is a doctor who, unfortunately, is assigned to the Ordi far too often ... Dr. Hachemian - I don't want to talk to her badly, she's certainly competent, but I've never seen such a cold person ... Mamas never talked to, she is about to flinch when there is only one question, very disrespectful communication .. I wish I could be treated elsewhere. It is by far the worst organization of an Ordi and disrespectful interaction in one. I hate the stress of going there ... I hope someone from managers read this review and do something ... I would be very grateful for that. (Translated by Google) Communication internally + to patients directly, unfortunately, absolutely cumbersome - often even completely contrary. (For example: A, B, C = 1 department - 3 different statements on one and the same important topic in one day) This of course quickly leads to uncertainty, unnecessary stress and misunderstandings of all kinds. Unfortunately, it becomes 1 to 1 patient immediately without exception and Co. charged. The goal here is recovery, among other things. very difficult as this continues and you just seem like a number. BUT still 3 stars, because you can't lump everyone together and exceptions do confirm the rule. But it's more like roulette here and you just hope for luck if you can't help it. (Original) Kommunikation intern + an Patienten direkt leider absolut schwerfällig - oft sogar völlig konträr.

Do not recommend going here at all. The staff at the reception are very rude and look down on people who can't afford to pay upfront without insurance. I have a private insurance with UNIQA, which was not accepted and was told to pay 350€ upfront to see the gynaecologist and when I said I don't have that much money, I was turned away. Is this how to treat patients who are in pain and emergency? Now my problem has turned out to be much more bigger and much more serious.

I was at the basketball tournament in Vienna I was injured during the match. I was about seven hours away from my home, in another country so I had to stay there for a few days. The doctors and nurses cared professionally about me, they were very nice to me, I was in the children's ward and when I was leaving I got a plush rabbit it was so sweet. 🤍 thanks

Dear Ukrainian refugees! In the name of God please NEVER visit the neurologist at this hospital. Rude, unprofessional, don’t want to hear you at all, just will make you a prescription for pills even if you will tell that you’ve try them and they are wrong. When I’ve tried to ask for the another doctor or the department head they just called the security to let me out. This is a shame for all Austrian medicine.

We went to the emergency centre this morning for a broken ankle, very apprehensive as we are visiting from England. All the staff were lovely with us, most spoke very good English and made us feel at ease! We were seen by a doctor very quickly, had an X Ray and cast sorted and sent on our way with the right documents and pain killers. Very happy with the care provided. Thank you

Horrible experience!firts of all the staff can not be more unfriendly and rude, they are not helpful!second I had an appointment today which was fixed on august! After waiting for 5 months I came here and surprisingly there was no appointment under my name. I was told that I have to do it again and renew the prescriptions and call and fix another appointment. Complete waste of time and wasting all at my time and taxes.

AKH charges local residents with private insurance a rounded figure in advance without issuing an invoice and without clear explanation what was the charged fee for. Is that legal in Austria? I emailed their customer service team with all the details but they have never responded.

A bottomless cheek to risk something like that, it should be exactly the other way around in order to offer optimal protection! As an expat living in Vienna, I have had to attend AKH a few times - once for myself and the other times for my young children. Each and every time, we have been met by kind, caring and professional doctors and nurses. They have provided excellent care, and taken the time to explain health issues to us and answer any questions we had. The fact that almost everyone spoke perfect English was so very much appreciated. I do not have local insurance and had to pay cash instead and claim back from my private insurance later. This was handled easily by AKH and has not caused any sort of issues or stress for me. Vienna is very lucky to have such an amazing facility here to serve its citizens.

Highly unprofessional. Read on if interested in the specifics: Went there as an international private patient for a surgery and it went like this: - First appointment: Doctor is not in Vienna, you can see another doctor that is not specialized in your problem. The second doctor just scheduled another appointment - Second appointment: Quick check, we need to schedule a surgery. - I waited for 2,5 months to get AN OFFER for the surgery.; Gave up and wend to LMU Munich. They did the checkup, the offer and the scheduling for the surgery before I got the offer from AKH. Spent around 6000€ on travel, accommodation and doctor visits. Spent hours on the phone following up. All for nothing.

It was a very quick and pleasant experience at the ER. I was expecting a long wait but I went in and out of the ER in just 15 minutes, with a diagnosis and a prescription. I know some German language but when they realized that I was struggling to explain my symptoms, they told me to just speak in English and their English was very fluent! I am a German resident on a trip to Vienna, so I used my European Health Insurance Card which made the ER trip completely free. Thank you!

Recommend this place if you are a tourist in Vienna and need a checkup or you have an emergency at a public hospital They asked for ID and insurance (had the European health insurance card) I didn’t need to pay anything (apart from the meds they prescribed me) Depending on the floor / department you end up in, you may have to wait a long time - this is why I rated it with only 4 stars Most of the people you meet speak English Really big hospitals, but you can see “road” signs everywhere, so it’s easy to navigate even if you’re unfamiliar or don’t speak German

The administration is a nightmare! Avoid this place at all costs. As a physician myself, I was appalled by the treatment of patients from the general administration. My husband was critically ill, the doctors told me not to expect him to survive the week AND then the next day the hospital refuses care (although his condition remained unchanged). Third world countries have much better treatment for their patients than Vienna General Hospital. If you're looking for a hospital that wants to treat you, that will give you respect and dignity-THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. AKH is not a hospital as a hospital is a place where people can heal or a treated for care.

This is the biggest and busiest hospital in Austria and you can of course not expect it to be cozy and familiar... Altough once you get up the stations it does not feel so giant anymore. All the people I met working there are professional and caring. There is always a specialist in case of complications. My thanks to all the doctors, nurses and assisting personnel. You are doing a good job!

After a terrible experience in Maribor, that could have left my wife with permanent brain damage, I brought her to AKH. The ER staff and doctors all spoke English and had her in front of a neurologist within 10 minutes. Within an hour she was in an MRI machine. This facility saved my wife. The care was excellent and the majority of the staff were also excellent. Almost all we worked with spoke English and the process was seamless. She spent 10 days in and had a heart procedure in addition to stroke treatment. The only complaint is the food is virtually inedible.

(Translated by Google) I would not even like to give a star! I gave birth in March at the AKH because I was considered a high-risk pregnant woman, so all the necessary examinations were also carried out in the abulances, I can only confirm that you have to wait for hours despite the appointment. In spite of the waiting time, I found the routine checks to be ok. You always came across nice nurses and doctors during this time (7-8 appointments in the outpatient clinic). I have to say that I gave birth to the Corona wedding and hope that things are different there !! I was more than disturbed after the birth and after my 7 day stay there! The birth of my child will unfortunately be remembered forever as a traumatic experience. Not only that everything went wrong and ended in an emergency caesarean section, my stay was simply terrible! Except for one pediatric nurse, the staff was horrible to one, I will never forget how I woke up after the emergency room full of pain in my own blood, and I called for help and my roommate called the sister. They came very quickly to puke me what I did there please. Incredibly after that I just replied that I certainly didn't deliberately bleed all the bed sheets! Then the 2 sisters left the room without any help I could not get up myself! My roommates helped me here again and also changed clothes !!! The whole stay was terrible, except for a single nurse I didn't have a nice time !! I advise every pregnant woman to experience their birth there! I am currently back in hospital in a KAV hospital with my 4-month-old son and am thrilled by both the doctors and the nurses an incredibly friendly and sensitive approach, I intentionally do not give the name so that I am not accused of advertising :) I hope everyone will never have to go to the AKH with all their heart!

You wait several months for an appointment and you spend an eternity in the waiting room when you are called , you try to handle the conversation as quickly as possible and you get assignments for physical therapies, although it has been explained several times that this has not helped. Dealing with patients is done in an arrogant and interested manner one is looked at maliciously by the communities and, despite the written diagnosis shown, is sent home and cynically referred to someone else even though the person in question has been contacted a thousand times and has shown indifference, unfortunately one remains alone with his problem (Original) Die orthopädische abteilung ist eine absoulute katastrophe, man wartet ewig und die ärtzte spazieren einfach hin und her,die ärtzte in der fussabteilung sind sowas von unproffesionel.

If you're a foreigner, stay away from this place! Over the phone they will tell you to come over, but once you're there they will register you and make you wait your turn just so they could tell you you're case is not urgent enough and redirect you to some other place! Horrible, horrible hospital!

Simply badly organized! As a result, patients no longer take their appointment and leave the entrance area! So problems are solved by themselves! Congratulations! (Translated by Google) I'm not a fan of hospitals, but the AKH is the only thing I can really recommend. I was in the ambulance for broken metacarpal bones. Ok, you have to bring patience and time, because you are not the only one there. Especially since there are more urgent cases than a normal broken bone. So I can't say anything negative about the waiting times. You can pass the waiting time sensibly ... staff is appropriately friendly. No matter whether X-ray or in the plaster room. I was always told what to do without having to ask. Overall, I am very satisfied with the AKH.

My fiancé has been in a wheelchair for 30 minutes with a broken hip and no painkillers. Because the sisters don't have time. Of course sitting in the nurses' room and talking and two walking around on the ward. Runs. It's pure disaster. I'd rather go to Germany with extreme pain and enjoy an atmospheric treatment than at this juice shop!!!!! Sad that I have to write such a review.

Went to eye ambulance after several eye doctors offices suggested to go there due to the severity of my wife's reported symptoms, which should be examined faster than the appointment slots in 3 weeks offered by the eye doctors themselves (a problem of the Austrian healthsystem in general, not AKH). Webpage has no information on what is a "serious enough" reason to visit AKH Augenambulanz. Since we are not experts, we trusted the eye doctors offices on their recommendation. After an acuity test by a technician (which had nothing to do with my wife's experienced eye problems) she was rudely sent away by staff that could not communicate in English and without ever seeing a doctor. After asking administration staff at the entrance we got berated that Austrian eyedoctors easily send people to hospitals (cool story, but not exactly our fault so no need to blame us about it). After that, we called eye doctors in the AKH area (far from our home) and found one that would see my wife immediately. After a few tests they sent us right back to AKH eye ambulance with a notice to be treated as emergency. Great service... (Edit: I am bumping it up to 2 stars, since after we jumped through hoops to convince the doctors that there was a serious issue (of which the eye problems ended up being a symptom), the care was decent. Still, turning a sick patient away like that in the first place is still unimaginable to me.)

I visited the hospital during the Christmas holidays due to the closure of several pharmacies in the city. Despite the language barrier, as the staff spoke limited English, they made every effort to help me find an open pharmacy. This was to obtain the urgent medication I needed. They were patient and kind, explaining the situation to me clearly and concisely. They even searched around for different pharmacies and provide me with detailed directions to the nearest one.
