Very peaceful space, very green despite the effects of the high temperatures and inadequate rain. Would have liked to spend more time there. Highlights were the bamboo thicket comprising a single plant, the waterlilies, the dahlias - and the red squirrels. The toilets were unisex a bit like permanent and sophisticated portloos and were clean. Tap outside could have been drinking water but no sign to say so. Next time we are in Vienna we will go again as came away feeling very relaxed.

Beautiful botanical garden in the third district of Vienna next to the Schloss Belvedere. Definitely worth visiting. The only aspect that was slightly bothersome was, that it closes around 18:00. The staff told us to leave around 17:45, so keep the closing time in mind when you stroll by.

It looks like an urban park with shady alleys under various species of trees from Asia, Americas and Europe. In addition to the temperate continental flora, there are a few tropical species such as bamboo. A special attraction is the alpine flora spot, where visitors can observe alpine flowers accommodated on a little manmade rocky hill. The botanical garden features a free public toilet. We were lucky enough to encounter a squirrel, which approached our bench while we were taking a snack. The entrance is free.

Another strolling place to enjoy nature and peace in the city of Vienna. It’s free to enter, no tickets needed. There are visiting times though so do check that out before you plan a visit. Was lucky to see some flowers in the Autumn season and some squirrels jumping around.

During the months that I spent in Vienna I visited the botanical garden several times and it never fails to fascinate me. Autumn and spring are by far the best times to fully appreciate the incredible variety of plants and flowers that create a wonderful color palette and to take some amazing pics of it! It's also contiguous to the Belvedere palace, so you can visit to great places in one go!

Before I explain my review I would like to point out that I visited the garden in December. However, the amount of plants that seemed poorly taken care of even in the winter gardens was shocking. And entering the palm tree house (or so I believe) was a complete disappointment. I hope it looks much better throughout spring and summer for the people visiting.

This was hard one, I went less than peak of season, so take with a grain of salt and maybe assume a 5 star. Because it was off season a lot wasn’t out and all the buildings were closed.

The Botanical Garden adjoins the Belvedere park. Established in 1754 under Empress Maria Theresa, it is now an independent division of the University of Vienna. The expansive grounds include open spaces and greenhouses and are home to thousands of species including medicinal plants, which were the foundation of the garden originally. The special collections containing orchids, succulents, and Pannonian plants are of great importance for species conservation and biodiversity research. The Botanical Garden, the Schweizergarten, and the parks of the Belvedere and the Palais Schwarzenberg form Vienna’s largest inner-city green space.

Lovely relaxing garden, not huge or amazing but a very pleasant restful place for a stroll with some lovely plants/flowers/trees, etc. depending on season. We were there just as the magnolias were flowering and the trees were in fresh green leaf. Splendid weather, cosy ambience, magnificent landscape. Respite from the hot sun.
