Church of Saint John the Baptist. In the Nave there are over 40 original escutcheons of important Knights of the Order of St. John of Malta; we missed them. Tip: READ The Great Siege of Malta (Maltese: L-Assedju l-Kbir) occurred in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire attempted to conquer the island of Malta, then held by the Knights Hospitaller. The siege lasted nearly four months, from 18 May to 13 September 1565.

The Maltese Church is named after the order of the same name, to which it belongs. Located in the first central district of Vienna on Kärtnerstrasse. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the Austrian Grand Priory of the Order of Malta. The first church on this site was founded in 1217 and was called "House of the Master of the Order of St. John." The current temple was built in the middle of the 15th century. Rebuilt in Baroque style in the 18th century. The church's altar was created in 1730 by the architect Johann Georg Schmidt, and stained glass windows were added in 1857.

A very beautiful, small Gothic Catholic church of the Order of Malta. Once a month the Storm Prayer to the Mother of God begins here and ends in a procession in St. Peter's Church.

I never expected such a beautiful tiny chapel within a busy commercial road.once inside, the outside noise is only marginally to hear. An astonishing place to be in.

Never been inside here due to not knowing of it’s existence until now! I must have walked straight past as it has been surrounded by progress. I need to visit! God bless the Knights of St John and their endeavours to help the needy for 2000 years. St John’s Ambulance still work hard.

Church that you should see if you are interested in church and religion. ...tickets... what a stupid question! There are NO tickets for this church. Anyone is welcome to donate something to the offering box

A beautiful church near the city center. It was very quiet inside despite the season and the fact there are many tourists and locals outside its doors hustling about. Included are some photos of the Christmas decor, which I found very tasteful.

(Translated by Google) This Catholic Church is not very big, but it has a lot of history, it belongs to the Hospital Knights of Vienna. In 1217 there was the first Church in this same place, as "House of the Tester of the Order of Saint John the Baptist", to support and care for the Crusaders. The current building was built in the middle of the 15th century. In the 18th century it was a place of preaching for Abraham to Santa Clara. After World War I, it had to be sold for financial problems, to others within the same Order, for its conservation. In 1960 it was bought and restored in several stages. The main altarpiece was painted in 1730 by Johann Georg Shmidt. The pulpit is of Empire marble and between 1806-1808 it was decorated with a Maltese Cross, 1 dove and golden rosettes. There is the tomb of Jean Parisot who defended Malta from the attacks of the Turks in the mid-16th century.

Officially called the Church of St. John the Baptist, this little church is under the protection of and maintained by the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta (a crusader era order founded in 1048 and are also know as The Knights of Malta), the order has been on that site since 1217. It is a quiet place to stop and take a moment out of your day to say "thank you" to God for all of our many blessings. One of my favorite places to visit while in Vienna.
