This monument sits in Sigmund Freud Park as a monument to the Psychoanalysis technique created by Sigmund Freud. The monument consists of a steale marked with the Greek symbols for Psi and Alpha. I think the monument might be an ensemble with a sculpture of chairs and tables to indicated thoughts and discussions. It’s okay. Fine if you’re in the area, otherwise I wouldn’t go out of the way to visit.

Below the letters Psi and Alpha, which Freud used to abbreviate "psychoanalysis", the inscription reads: "The voice of REASON is a soft one". However, Freud wrote: "The voice of INTELLECT is a soft one, but it does not rest till it gains a hearing. Finally, after countless succession of rebuffs, it succeeds. This is one of the few points on which one may be optimistic about the future of mankind, but it is in itself a point of no small importance. And from it on can derive other hopes. The primacy of the intellect lies, it is true, in a distant, distant future, but probably not in an infinitely distant one" (The Future of an Illusion, 1927 - p.53). How the substitution of REASON for INTELLECT come about, no one knows. The inscription on the stone was finally corrected in the 1990s. The memorial was unveiled in 1985, 100 years after Sigmund Freud was appointed "Privatdozent" by the University of Vienna. The stela is located right next t the University in the park named after the famous professor.

One of the monuments you will find at Sigmund Freud Park is stone memorial to Sigmund Freud (1856-1939). Erected here in 1985 at the time the park name was being changed to that of the famous Austrian physician and psychoanalyst. The monument is simple, resembling a standing tablet including Psi-Alpha inscription as well as a partial quote by Freud "Die Stimme des Intellekts ist leise" (The voice of Intelligence is quite) followed his inscribed name near the base of the memorial. It is an interesting memorial to view and can be seen rather quickly before or after visits to Votivkirche, the likely purpose for your having come to this area of Vienna. Give it a couple minutes before moving on with other intended sightseeing.

Two different things to see.. the denkmal and the table. Find and see both of them. Not many thing to see here but it might already be in your path as Schottentor station is in the path of different s-bahn and u-bahns.

It is a table statue commemorating the extension of EU in 2004. Only relation with Freud is the presence within Freud Park.

Great conversation starter during lockdown when all your social life takes place in parks. Five stars.
