Must see in Österreich ! !Jacke mitnehmen! -Homepage beachten.

Very nice place if you have a way around. They say it's one of the biggest underground lake in Europe. It's really charming, especially when you are ona boat. The undegroud walk is not long but you will see a lot of of nice places and history of the cave. Everybody can go there and kids were very happy down inside. Surrounding country is amazing with lot of small hikes. We came from Bratislava and it worth it.

Tourist trap. The lake itself is beautiful, but the actual boat ride takes only about 5 minutes. The rest of the tour is fast walking across the mine with very brief interruptions of the guide. The scenes that aim to recreate the life and work of miners and horses look pathetic and unnatural. They even charge for blanket rental, though it’s 8 degrees celsius in the mines.

Very fine cave and experience. No way to order tickets in advance, so need to stand in queue in the heat. There is always room for every so no need to rush, when you get inside the cave you might wait 10-20 minutes. They have blankets for the cold

Reasonably priced at 11 euros, the Seegrotte was definitely worth the trip if you are taking a day trip to Mödling from Vienna. A 20-30 minute walk away from the town, the tour took you to the underground mine and largest underground sea in Europe. The tour guide was well versed in English and German and gave us an insight into what the caves were used for during WWII. The tour included a short boat ride around the cave and lasted about 45 minutes. Well worth your time to drop by and visit.

Walking through the tunnels and knowing the history behind, was a great experience overall! The guided tour was great! Probably would have been just okay if it was just touring ourselves. But since the guide was kind and very informative, it was made very special. ~45 mins with 10-15 min. boat ride. Fully worth it!

Interesting place to visit. The cave is natural created but the water level is maintained by human. The cave and lake itself are quite plain, but with the light and electric boat and the bgm the tour trip is quite exciting. The historic spot inside also add a bit of romantic. A good one day trip option from Wien.

Very nice mine with underground lake. There is quite cold (they said us 9°C) and I would recommend to have some warmer clothes (at least hoodie). After guided tour and a boat trip you can walk freely and take photos (taking videos are forbidden for some reason).

Europe’s largest underground sea grotto! It was an old mining cave in 1913 then it got flooded which became the grotto. We did a walking tour through the tunnels and then a boat ride. Our tour guide spoke German and then used an audio machine to play the English translation. There was no light for 20 years and they used blind horses to lead and carry equipment. The lake doesn’t seem to be that deep from the boat. No signs of animal life. The movie Three Musketeers was filmed here with a 20 minute cave scene. Highly recommend. It can be a bit chilly in the cave and aware that there are areas with steps.

Beautiful cave with lake. We visited it in July, but we couldn't find any information about opening hours. The window of the cash register was closed, we waited for about 40 minutes, when a man came from the cave and guided the waiting people underground. It was worth the wait, the tour was fantastic. We spent about an hour down there.

The tour is pretty short but it’s an interesting place to see. The underground lake is in a series of connected caves so it wasn’t as as impressive as I expected. It didn’t feel claustrophobic at all, the entrance is the tightest spot on the tour. After the initial tunnel it all gets bigger.

A historic site of gypsum mines. The level of the water is around 60 m. However there are 7 different sources from which water seeps in. Water is regularly flushed out to maintain the level below 1.2 m from the surface. There are calcium deposits in the water due to which no signs of life are seen.

Very nice. You have 1 drive with boat about 8 minutes. If you go bring some jacket in all year the temperature is 9°C. Or you can rent blenky for 0.50€. After boat drive you can stay inside how much you want.People who work there are freundly but like programired. I was drink in restaurant very expencive, 1 Coca cola 3,90€. But good experience an not far from Vienna. With train from Meidling Bahnhof bis Mödling and from Mödling with bus 364 or 365 to Seegrote Hinterbrühl about 8 station.

Largest underground lake in Europe. Tour itself was very educational, with the guide proficient in both German and English. Treated to a history of the former mine turned tourist attraction, plus a boat ride in the middle of an underground lake with crystal clear waters with a blueish tint due to the minerals. A great alternative to the castles and palaces in Vienna although the tour price of 11 euros was a little bit pricey in my opinion. Opening hours vary throughout the year so do check before heading over.

Found this pretty much by accident on the day of our visit. We briefly looked at some reviews online and didn't expect a lot from the reviews. However, we really couldn't have enjoyed ourselves anymore. The guide was so funny, and spoke a little english but also had a speaker which he played a pre recorded english version with after his speech in german. The boat ride at the end is fantastic and definitely a unique experience. The caves themselves are fantastic (albeit a little chilly).

It's a very interesting place. Completely man-made. Started off as a gypsum mine but was occupied by the German military from 1944-1945 to build aircraft. Currently, it is the largest underground lake in Europe. The tour takes about 30 minutes and includes a 5 minute boat ride in the cave system.

A very unusual place. Never seen something like this lake before. The story behind this place is fascinating. It is possible to visit Seegrotte as part of a guided tour while gliding in a boat. May be extremely interesting for younger children (our daughter was astonished).

It was so fun walking through the tunnels! At the end of the tour, we went on a boat tour around the caves. The guide was very funny! It's 9 degrees in the caves, but they provided blankets which you could borrow.

One of the largest underground lakes in Europe. This is a flooded gypsum mine you can explore by boat. It is around 9°C in there. So, don't go with a T-shirt only. The entry fees are 15€ pp. The cave was opened to the public but only very limited. Usually it is supposed to be very busy. The guide was very friendly and multilingual. There is plenty of time to explore the dry parts of the cave by yourself. There is enough light but you may bring your own light.

(Translated by Google) Originally a gypsum mine, which was mined here since 1848. It is located under a gentle hill and the first floor of the mine is at the entrance level. In 1912, on the lower floor, the rock was blasted, which disrupted the water-impermeable subsoil and the lower floor of the mine was flooded with about 20 million liters of water. The water created an underground lake with an area of 6200 m2 and since the cost of pumping water was higher than the profit from possible mining, the mine was closed. For more than two decades, the mine was forgotten until it was discovered by the international speleological team. Tourist use was interrupted by World War II, when a mine built a factory for the production of aircraft components and since 1944 also the entire jet aircraft He-162 (aircraft model and preserved components are part of the exhibition). The prisoners of the Mauthausen concentration camp worked in the mine, and a part of the exposition is a memorial place for the victims who died here. Admission is relatively high for the citizens of Central Europe (12 € for older than 14 years, 8.5 € child, 33 € family 2 + 2)), parking spaces at the entrance is scarce (basically about 50 m one-way street where they can park cars, buses have separate parking). The card can be used for souvenirs. The tours start every 15 minutes, based on German and English. In the case of organized tours and the presence of a linguistically competent guide, another language is also possible. The tour will take you through the upper floor, where the exhibitions are dedicated to the mine itself (rest room, horse stables, technology used), war production, war victims along with a demonstration of the Blue Lake, a visit to the St. Chapel underground chapel. Barbara (the patron saint of miners) and the concert hall. The mine also hosts concerts, various festivals and weddings. There are also some props on this floor that were left from the filming of Three Musketeers. The tour continues with the stairs to the lower, flooded storey, where another prop from the movie Three Musketeers - the Golden Dragon Boat - strikes the eye. The tour continues on the flooded parts of the mine, which includes audio-visual presentations made up of music, water and light. As the lake has no runoff, the inflow of water is continuously drained (the Nazis tried to drain the water completely during the war, but they failed), the tricks on the mine wall indicate the fluctuation of the water level, which the guide points out. After rowing, the guide disbanded us, we had an individual journey back to the exit. The location is worth a visit, in addition to the mine and underground lake, there are several other attractive tourist destinations. Barbory (patrónka baníkov) a koncertnej sály.

(Translated by Google) A very interesting place. 1 was a WWII aircraft factory for the Germans. You can get to the complex through a thin tunnel and then the space expands and there is a two-story complex inside the stomach of the mountain. Most of the lower level is now flooded with water so the maintainers are taking advantage of the opportunity to organize a short boat trip in the stomach. If anyone goes for it, it's definitely worth a look. Also, bring a sweater with you in the summer because it's cool inside.

It is better if you have a back pack carrier for the infant. Shoes must be comfortable walking shoes. It is cold inside but for adults it is fine. You will get blanket but I did not use any and it was bearable cold. But for infant I would advise carrying a jacket.

Not quite popular among tourists, but I think if you have time and you like history then you should visit it. It explains a lot about Hitler role in the World War and how he managed to manufacture war planes secretly underground. However, the site needs some renovation. And take care, it's very cold down there; try to wear a jacket or something.

Toalety su mimo areál blizko vstupu a su zadarmo.

(Translated by Google) Grotto in Hinterbrühl. Easy to reach, parking directly on site, also well signposted. Bus station also only a few minutes walk away. One can visit the cave only with a guide. Prices are quite high, currently you pay 11 € per person. Map of the grotto in front of the entrance. Group size also quite large, on weekends groups of over 50 people are not uncommon. Guided tours start approximately every 20 minutes. First, walk through the corridors for about half an hour and stop at some stations to listen to the guides. Actually, enough space for all participants at each station. The guidance is in German and English, it would be better to offer only monolingual tours, because you have to hear everything twice. In some places showcase, where you can see the work based on figures. Temperature very low, you should take jackets, you should forget, there are blankets on site. Floor not slippery, but you get a little dirty. Especially the entrance area very narrow and deep. Leader nice and humorous. Finally, there is a boat ride about ten minutes through the Grottensee. In a boat fit 20 people, with larger groups, it may happen that you have to wait 20 minutes. But then drive very nice, there are sound and light effects. In the end, the leaders still ask for applause and tip and you can then go alone through the grotto. Very many tourists as guests. Actually, one can recommend the guide, but since I find the price for 45 minutes very high, I'm not sure if trips to the Seegrotte are worthwhile. (Original) Grotte in Hinterbrühl.

(Translated by Google) Suitable for vacant suburban travel. It is not just a cave, but a joint venture with the Nazis. You can see how the Germans wanted to win the war. For reference, I did not assemble an airplane here, but after I made parts, I took them to an empty airfield and assembled them there. Many people have misunderstood.

(Translated by Google) Quite an interesting mine / cave, but a tour in German-English (the guide repeats in two languages), so for those who do not understand these languages very well, it will be a bit boring, however, there is something to see. The excursion ends with a boat ride on the underground lake. Children are bored. To park the car you need to drive far ahead (500 meters) to the free parking at the tennis courts. Of course, when buying tickets, for some reason, they did not want to accept bank cards (something vague about the terminal, then about the “boss who said so”), but in fact the Russian-speaking cashier is probably cheating with taxes.

(Translated by Google) Attention! Tourist trap! It must be in any tourist guide, as buses (!) Come with tourists and visit the grotto, which is not worth the entrance fee. The guided tour is very short and bilingual and as it stops in the middle of the grotto, there are always other visitors who "disturb" the tour. It is also not verbally referred to the fatal accident of 2004, which is very sad. (Original) Achtung! Touristenfalle!

(Translated by Google) Wanted to visit the Seegrube yesterday with my little nephew, but she had closed for maintenance. On the homepage, which I had visited the evening before, it was nothing. Only in the local news it was mentioned (which I rarely read, since I am not from the area). Please better point out! Had made the long way for free :( (Original) Wollte die Seegrotte gestern mit meinem kleinen Neffen besuchen, doch sie hatte wegen Wartungsarbeiten geschlossen. Bitte besser darauf hinweisen! Hatte den langen Weg umsonst gemacht :(
