The
Heustadlwasser
is
located
in
the
middle
of
the
green
Prater
in
Vienna.
It
is
a
former
branch
of
the
Danube
that
flowed
as
an
island
around
a
frequently
flooded
floodplain
area,
the
Krieau,
from
the
Vienna
Trade
Fair
to
the
Lusthaus.
On
this
"island"
a
hay
barn
was
built
for
feeding
game,
hence
the
name
of
the
body
of
water.
In
1875,
the
inflow
of
Heustadl
water
was
filled
in
when
regulating
the
Danube
in
Vienna.
Today
the
Heustadlwasser
is
divided
into
two
parts
by
the
Prater
Hauptallee
(into
upper
and
lower
Heustadlwasser).
Treet
boats
for
2
to
6
people
can
be
rented
for
a
boat
tour
at
a
small
boat
rental
at
the
end
of
the
water
at
Stadionallee,
near
the
Stadionbad.
The
water
here
is
up
to
8
meters
deep.
Right
at
the
beginning
of
the
boat
tour
you
can
turn
under
a
small
pedestrian
bridge
into
a
small
lake,
the
Rosenteich.
There
are
good
swimming
spots
here,
especially
for
people
with
dogs,
and
a
children's
playground.
The
large
bridge
over
the
Heustadlwasser
is
the
highway
with
the
southeast
tangent.
Other
bridges
for
cyclists
and
pedestrians
cross
under
the
car
bridge.
Beautiful
hiking
trails
lead
around
the
Heustadlwasser
on
both
sides.
Not
far
from
the
boat
rental
is
the
terminus
of
the
Liliputbahn.
Beautiful
walking
paths
lead
to
the
Jesuit
meadow
and
the
Constantine
pond
in
the
Prater.
