The Kirche Am Hof also known as the Church of the Nine Choirs of Angels can be found at Am Hof Square. This is a decent church to visit if you plan to spend time in this area of Vienna. Church history dates back to the 14th century. The attractive exterior and Baroque style facade was the work of Italian architect Carlo Carlone in 1662. Within the church, you will find an attractive entrance hall, nave with Gothic features and an elegant altar. The pulpit and side ornately decorated side altars are worth seeing. Do make sure to see the Rococo style organ which dates back to 1763 as well. Give it 10-15 minutes to explore the interior of the church and then you can make way to other intended sightseeing in the area. I'd also suggest spending a few minutes to enjoy the interesting Mariensäule (Marian Column) just outside the church as well.

Kirche am Hof is translated into English as the Church of the Nine Choirs of Angles. Sounds incredibly awesome just by the name. It’s a centrepiece on Am Hof and a significant historical site. Chiefly, it is the church where a royal herald declared the end of the Holy Roman Empire, which had been ruled by the Habsburgs. The dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire eventually resulted in the birth of the German Empire and the Austrian empire. At that point, Emperor Franz I of Austria begin his rule as Emperor of the Austrian Empire. It’s all politics to be honest.

(Translated by Google) This fabulous church located in the historic center of Vienna with a beautiful overlooking the homonymous square, was built at the end of 1300 and then restored following a more baroque style after a devastating fire in 1600 that seriously damaged. Today it looks really beautiful and is a monument worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) Super beautiful church. Much nicer than the famous St. Stephans Dom. We were the only people present in the middle of the day in mid-August, so we could look around in peace. Definitely recommended for when you are in Vienna. Nice square too. (Translated by Google) Passeggiate italiane Route (b): New era and Baroque: Church on the courtyard / Karlskirche / Heiligenkreuzerhof in Vienna 1662 was commissioned by Eleonora Gonzaga to plans by the Italian architect Carlo Antonio Carlone (* Scaria CO 1635-1708 in the abbey of St. Nikola in Passau) an early Baroque facade to the built by the Carmelite Romanesque court orchestra (1386-1403), later the Jesuit church (1554) at the court. The church was presented with remarkable altars (stonework by master Johann Lorentisch from Kaisersteinbruch). As convent church of a mendicant order, she did not receive a bell tower. The church now serves as the church of the Croatian community in Vienna. Carlo Antonio Carlone was a relative of the most famous Carlo Innocenzo Carlone (usually referred to as Carlo Carlone, Scaria 1686-ibid 1775): a painter and fresco of the Lombard artistic family Carlone and pioneer of the Rococo with its colorfully moving frescoes and altarpieces. After he had created many works in Germany and Austria, he returned to Italy, where he was still active in old age. In Vienna he realized u.a. the ceiling fresco in the stairwell of the Palais Daun-Kinsky; the fresco "Allegory of Glory" in the Great Hall of the Upper Belvedere; some frescoes in the castle chapel. Other Italian artists active in Vienna were: Lorenzo Mattielli (or Lorenzo Matielli) (Vicenza, 1687-Dresden 1748). The Italian sculptor is one of the most important Italian Baroque artists. He worked in Vienna from 1711 for the court, the Viennese aristocracy and the church and worked u.a. at the Vienna Hofburg, at the arsenal of the fire department at Am Hof and in the monasteries Melk, Klosterneuburg and Mariazell. In 1714 he was appointed Imperial Court sculptor. From him in the Vienna Karlskirche the pediment of St. Charles Borromeo and: religion, compassion, penitence and prayer on the Attica, as well as the angel figures on the drum, the crowning eagle of the great pillars, the angels of the high altar and at the St. Michael's Church the angel fall group , Giovanni Giuliani (1664 Venice): since 1690 in Austria, he introduced the Italian, baroque sculpture in Vienna, artistically impoverished by the Second Viennese Turks siege. Financial problems forced him in 1711 to make a lifelong commitment as a family with the pen Heiligenkreuz; but he was able to lead a small sculpture workshop. Until his death in 1744 he designed the reconstruction of the monastery Heiligenkreuz and the Heiligenkreuzerhof in Vienna, but also other churches, for example. in Gaaden. Giuliani died in Heiligenkreuz, where he was buried in the collegiate church like Martino Altomonte (Naples 1657-Heiligenkreuz 1745), the co-founder of the independent Baroque painting in today's Austrian region.

(Translated by Google) The church at the court; "Church of the nine choirs of angels" in Vienna, was built from 1386 to 1403. The church was ceded to Croatian Catholics by the Archdiocese of Vienna in early May 1969. Since then it has been the spiritual center of the Croatian Catholic Mission in Vienna, where all Croatian Catholics from 150 different parishes from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina gather. THE HISTORY OF THE CROATIAN CATHOLIC MISSION The founder of the Croatian Catholic Mission (Hrvatska katolička misija) is Dr. Mrs. Mirko Covic, who came to Vienna from Linz in 1955 and looked after the Croatians in Austria, immediately after Austria had freed itself from the Russian administrative zone. In 1960 he founded the Croatian pastoral office, which was later renamed the "Croatian Catholic Mission". When the number of Croatian believers increased significantly in 1969, thanks to the persistence of the Franciscans and Croatian believers, the Croatian Catholic Mission received this church for use. In 1973 the then Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Franz König, gave the Croatian Catholic Mission the status of a personal parish for all Croatian Catholics in the Archdiocese of Vienna. The number of the faithful grew from year to year and on Sundays and public holidays a large number of believers always gathered in the church at the court, so that this was known and appreciated throughout Austria. This is probably the reason that Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, now emeritus. visited this church, ceded to Croatians, with their visit to Austria.

There are also a lot of events taking place that are simply fabulous in this dignified setting. Those looking for sacral buildings in the heart of Vienna should not miss out on this pleasure either. Have fun. The church is unjustly one of the most popular tourist churches, although it is well worth seeing and has a very variable history since 1386.
