Honestly, in the 20 years that I was living here I had never entered it until one morning I happened to come across it. I couldn't have made a better plan: the girls were very kind to me at all times and explained to me in great detail what the visit consisted of. I discovered information about my hometown that I did not know, so this “excursion” has given me things for free, such as knowing first-hand the great importance that salt had many years ago and that near this point there are excavations of other salt mines. next. If like me you used to pass by here and ignore it, I think you should give it a chance.

It is incredible that in the heart of the city there are intact salt flats that are more than 2000 years old. Of Roman origin, dating back to the first century, they are amazing. I recommend the guided tour, they will explain many interesting things that you will not appreciate if you do it on your own. We went on a Sunday and our guide was Marta, with whom we spent a fun and instructive morning. They are only open in the mornings, from Tuesday to Sunday, and you have to register in advance using the sea museum's phone or email. It is incredible that it is not given more publicity. Highly recommended

Interpretation center of the ancient Roman salt mines that were along the coast of the current Port of Vigo. What is visited is a very small part of what they were and the rest is hidden by the adjacent buildings, other parts appearing (now unvisited) hundreds of meters away. It is a museum interpretation of what the salt mine must have been like, where salt was obtained from sea water by evaporation. It is very small and is good for groups of students or people with an interest in History. It is quite disappointing, like many of the Roman discoveries on the peninsula.

Genial!

I loved the story about the old salt mines of Vigo. They have a good historical representation and even recipes from Roman times. It is worth the visit.

It is a fairly small place that goes unnoticed from the street. The entrance is through a small glass structure that contains the elevator and stairs. Once you descend you find a hall with some objects and information about the salt and then the space where the remains of the salt mine are. It was discovered by chance during the excavation to carry out construction on the lot. It is presumed that the neighboring lots probably destroyed any remains that may have been there when carrying out the constructions. The guided tour is very informative and the staff is very attentive. It is surprising to see how the beach line has changed over time.

Interesting and curious exhibition. You can only see the initial foundations of what must have been the salt pans, but we can get an idea of how they worked

Access facilities that seem abandoned, very serious humidity problems, an elevator that is better not to use, buckets on the floor, unmotivated staff, without any attention or knowledge of the center, they do not ask anything about visitors for statistics, they do not promote neither the center nor the city. The exhibition of the salinae, with cigarette butts!!! What a shame for a treasure of such caliber, treated in this way. Disappointing.

A very pleasant visit to a well set up museum. The route clearly explains the importance of salt pans and salt in ancient times. The museum staff are friendly and helpful. Open only 3 hours a day, I recommend always checking the opening hours before any visit

😐 The Bay of Vigo was mentioned in the book “20 000 Leagues Under the Sea” written by Jules Verne. After publishing his book, he visited the city of Vigo aboard his yacht Saint Michel III. The bronze sculpture, made in 2005, was to commemorate to centenary of the death of the writer.
