Was a little intimidated by the thought of climbing up there. Turned out the walk up the winding paths under those magnificent ancient trees was very pleasant. At first I couldn't see much of Vigo below due to the huge trees. Then as I gradually walked higher the view became better and better. I was here mid day on a Monday. There were a few people but overall it was a quiet place with nice little surprises around the corners beginning with the massive gates when i entered the fort. There are some fountains and beautiful flowers. I was even able to see the islands with that incredible sandy beach off in the distance. Wish I would have had more time to spend up at the Castelo.

Great place for a 360 degree city view, even better for sunset. Locals go there for a nice walk as well. Warning: steep slopes.

Several hilltop forts “ Castro’s” were built in the area during the Iron Age ( 9BC - 1AD) and they were the first permanent settlements in the north west of the Iberian peninsula. This Castro is an exhilarating walk up to the hill summit - not well sign posted ( so thanks Google Maps!). Good views over the city and the bay. Not a lot in the fort area but lovely fountains. Walking and jogging paths on the hill slopes. A scenic spot- worth a visit.

The walk is worth the view and the historical significance is well documented at the top. Many sites for beautiful pictures. You can take the steps straight to the top but I recommend the curving paths. No vendors at the top or a bathroom, do take water with you.

Beautiful place with an amazing view. The castle is very interesting and it’s very strong what happened here during the dictatorship. The view of the ria, the city and the islands is one of the best you will see in your life. By far the best place to watch the sunset

I think the best attraction in Vigo. Recommended to visit it if you survive to big amount of steps that separate you from the top. it's worth taking the risk

Nicely maintained gardens. Panoramic view of the city and port. Good walk up with many stairs. There is a cafe (O'Castro) which serves drinks, beers, snacks and ice cream near the top).

Spectacular old castle ruins surrounded by a lovely park on the hill. Panoramic 360 views especially of the port, Cies Islands and estuary. Well worth the walk up the hill helped initially in the town by a series of open air escalators. Very peaceful and free to get in (no tickets).

This fortress and hill is a highlight in the whole city of Vigo. A historical attraction but it also offers amazing views over the city and Cies islands located on the Atlantic coast. Must visit if you are in Vigo!

Walked around the grounds which give a nice view of the city. The castle was closed as a bank holiday. Lots of graffiti and rubbish left behind. We were out early and as a public holiday maybe the cleaners had not been on site to pick up the previous evening's litter......trying to be positive.

I just loved the walk and get to the top of the fort. The place is beautiful, clean and and mostly quiet. The sight is amazing, especially when looking at the Vigo river. This is an easy recomendation for anyone.

Very nice views. Good for a vigorous trek or a pleasant walk. Lot of places to sit. You decide. I didn't see places to buy snacks or drinks. I also needed more info about the place: history etc

Incredible views of Vigo and out to the islands. Well maintained gardens of former castle. A straightforward 15 mins walk out from the centre of Vigo. Climbing some steps required but generally accessible (there is also a road which takes you high up if to have car access). Would recommend 30-60 mins for the trip if based in the city centre. Surprisingly well sheltered from winds too.

Nice place, very good views from the city and the sunset!

You can walk up there from the old town, but you will be tired. Yet, the views are definitely worth the effort, particularly at sunset. You get an nearly 360 degree view of the city and surrounding area, including the nearby islands. It felt totally safe, but I didn't go there after dark.
