The Church of Santiago de Vigo, also known as the Church of Santiago Apóstol, is a prominent religious building located in the heart of the city of Vigo, in Galicia, Spain. A detailed description: 1. Exterior Architecture: - The church has a predominantly Gothic architectural style, although it has undergone modifications over the centuries. - The main façade is adorned with Gothic details, including pointed arches and a series of religious sculptures that decorate the main entrance. - The bell tower is a prominent feature of the church and rises majestically towards the sky. Its design is sober and elegant, with a clock on the top. - In the back of the church, you can see older architectural elements, such as buttresses and stone walls that date from previous times. 2. Inside: - The interior of the church is equally impressive. It has a central nave and several side chapels, each decorated with altars, altarpieces and sculptures that show the rich religious heritage of the region. - The main altar is an important focal point and is usually richly decorated with gold details and works of religious art. - The high ceilings and stone columns contribute to creating an atmosphere of solemnity and spirituality inside the church. 3. History: - The church of Santiago de Vigo has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its construction began in the 12th century and it has undergone several renovations and extensions over the years. - It is an important pilgrimage site, since inside is the image of Santiago Matamoros, a patron saint of Spain. 4. Location: - The church is located in the historic center of Vigo, which makes it a landmark in the city and a place of important tourist interest. In short, the church of Santiago de Vigo is an impressive building with a rich history and notable architecture that combines Gothic elements and other styles. It is a place of spiritual and cultural importance in the city of Vigo.

A modest church with a plain facade. It was Designed in 1890 in a rigid Gothic style with 3 naves covered by a ribbed vault. It was consecrated on 10th August 1907.

An emblematic church of the city of Vigo in the community of Galicia in northern Spain. From here the Camino de Santiago begins and they also give you the pilgrim's passport. The father of the church is very kind and tells you which place is the best route to Santiago de Compostela. Definitely a place to visit in Vigo.

Nice 19th Century Church named after Saint James the Apostle. Pilgrims can get the credential from the priest & have it stamped.

Regal. It rises majestically with its two bell towers. Spectacular on the outside, it's a little poor on the inside. Quite neglected and with very limited hours for the location it has. In any case, it is one of the most beautiful and emblematic of Vigo. It deserves a visit. Good capacity for the faithful.

Beautiful and imposing. I was starting my journey on the road to Santiago and as I passed by, the two gentlemen in blue who appear in the photo insisted on accompanying me inside so that my passport could be stamped. You need to go to the back of the church and knock on the office door on the right side. The priest, very friendly, attended to me and I was able to continue my journey. Rexomendo

(Translated by Google) It dates from the end of the 19th century. The works were stopped several times due to lack of funds. The facade is neo-Gothic in style and the general architecture evokes the historicist medieval style. Pretty well maintained on the outside. Inside it is very pretty. We went during Christmas time, so the photos I attach may be different when going to this Church at another time of year.

(Translated by Google) It is strange to find this type of architecture in Galicia, since its appearance is more typical of an Anglican or Protestant church from northern Europe than a Galician Catholic church. It is located in the heart of Vigo, it is imposing so it is impossible to ignore it.

😐 The Bay of Vigo was mentioned in the book “20 000 Leagues Under the Sea” written by Jules Verne. After publishing his book, he visited the city of Vigo aboard his yacht Saint Michel III. The bronze sculpture, made in 2005, was to commemorate to centenary of the death of the writer.
