Upli Burz is beautiful historical place. The Upli Burj (Upli Buruj or Hyder Buruj) was essentially constructed as a watchtower having a staggering height of 80 feet. The key person responsible for building this historic monument was Hyder Khan, popular commander in the Adil Shahi army. This is the reason why Upli Burj is also called as Hyder Burj by the locals. This watchtower was primarily built to improve the security strength of Bijapur. Once the construction of the Upli Burj was completed, it was used by the Adil Shahi to keep an eye on activities taking place outside the fort wall. It was also used to track the presence and movement of their enemies. The watchtower is closely located to the citadel’s western sides.

A regular enemy watchtower in the middle of the city. The war cannons can be seen here. Good place to go and seek the city views.

Built around 1584 by Hyder Khan, is an 80-foot-high (24 m) tower standing to the north of Dakhani Idgah in Vijayapura. This is a spherical structure with stone steps winding round the outside. Top of the tower offers a commanding view of the city. This is also known as “Hyder Burj”, “Upli Burj”. On top of Upli Burj there are two guns of huge size. The parafeet this tower which was used for monitoring purposes has been fenced now. One needs to climb the circular stairs to reach the top. However except for this tower there is very little evidence of the citadel wall in this area due to rampant construction.

Historical watch tower with a heavy field gun installed on the top of the Buruj. No ticket. Open through the day. A flight of winding stairs takes you on the rooftop. Situated on the roadside.

Hyder Burz (Upli Burz) is a watch tower built around 1584 by Hyder Khan. Hyder Khan was a commander in the Adil Shahi army. So this tower is also known as Hyder Burj. This 80 ft high tall tower, formed part of the military defence of Bijapur. The spherical watch tower has steep stone steps winding round it. On the top there are two huge guns.

This place is historical with 2 canons on top. I think this was a watch tower like structure during those days. You can clearly see almost vijayapura from here. Still I am wondering how could these heavy weighted canons has been shifted to top of it. Great dedication and determination of our ancestors.

Upali Burj it's original name Hyder Burj is an watch tower located close to Malik E Maidan of Bijapur it served as a watch tower during the reign of Ali Adilshah 1 one can find two huge cannons atop the tower. The most noticeable thing is that how these cannons have survived 5 centuries without any major damage. This tower was built by Hyder khan The commander of Ali Adilshah 1 s army in mid 1500s this tower is approximately 100 feet and served as a watch tower and defence for third layer of Bijapur city in Adilshahi period. The cannons on top of this tower are cast using 5 different metals are known as panchloha dhatu tof in local language.

The Upli Burz is a defensive tower built in.around 1584 by Hyder Khan as part of the old fortification walls of Bijapur. It's a large spherical tower, 24 metres high with commanding views of the surrounding area. The tower stands almost on its own with little evidence that it was once connected to a defensive system, though you can still see the old walls in the surrounding area. Getting to the top of the tower involves climbing circular steps around the outside of the tower. At the top of the tower, the platform offers a commanding view of the city and there's also two cannons of huge size there. Upli Burz is a protected monument, though there's little evidence of much protection. It's free to enter and worth a quick stop if you're in the area. It’s also one of the more interesting things to see in Bijapur.
