One of the biggest and oldest mosque in India!!. Mosque was build by Adil Shah who is Shia Muslim!!. Made of red sand stone and covering a lot of area. Gardens are well maintained . There is no much rush during week days except for Friday. This mosque can hold upto 6000 devotes prayer at a time. It has great historical significance. There are two entrance Adil Shah gate and Aurangzeb gate. Moghul emperor Aurangzeb captured this city and turned this mosque to Sunni muslim mosque. This mosque is around 500 years old. Main altar is completely gold plated over wood structure. Many underground tunnels have been sealed off by government.

The unique feature in this masjid is the Quran written in gold at the Masjid’s mehrab. This masjid is generally located in the south east part of the city which spreads over an area of about 10,810 square meters. The mosque building is in the shape of rectangle with 170 meters X 70 meters with a large courtyard with a water tank, along with the small sitting arrangements on two sides of the water tank. Where the person who practices the Islamic religion cleans his own feet, hands and face before reading/ listening to the Quran reading at the masjid. At the front it represents with nine large arches with five inner arches of 45 compartments. It was built around in the year 1565 without full completion, this masjid is a prayer hall with fine aisles supported on piers with an impressive dome in the frontage with nine inlets. It is also very interesting to see the 2250 inlaid rectangular tiles in the form of prayer rugs in the masjid with the dome in semicircular shape. It is said in the year 1636 the mosque was gilded and inscribed with Persian verses and the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb got the mosque extended with eastern gates and verandahs to the east, south and the north. It is also known as Jami masjid

The Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in the city of Bijapur, with a capacity of 4000 worshippers. It is considered one of the finest examples of Adil Shahi architecture. Richard Eaton notes that the mosque is emblematic of Iranian influence, and does not incorporate local traditions to the extent of later Bijapuri architecture. The design and ornamentation of the mosque are quite simple. The rectangular mosque complex spreads over 5040 m2, and is enclosed by perimeter walls. The main entrance to the complex is the eastern gate. Within the complex is a square sahn (courtyard) of side length 50 m, containing fountains and an ablution reservoir.

The Jama Masjid of Bijapur (also known as Jamiya Masjid or Jumma Masjid) is a congregational mosque in the Indian state of Karnataka. Initiated by Ali Adil Shah I of the Bijapur Sultanate in the 16th century, the mosque was never completed. It is the largest mosque in Bijapur, and has a capacity of 4000 worshippers.

Soon after raiding the Vijayanagara empire, the sultanates built this mosque as a symbol of their greatest victory in the history. The mosque is huge and depicts the architectural style of Bijapur sultanates. The wall is completely made with Gold Painting and it’s preserved in top notch maintenance form. Anybody can visit this place. Regular namaz happens here and the gathering is big🙌🏽

It is also known as Jami masjid or Jumma masjid, it is one of the largest and first constructed mosque of Bijapur built during the rule of Ali Adil Shah who acquired the land after conquering Ramaraja of Vijayanagar. Prayers are offered here till date. A separate prayer room for women is also there.

The masjid the house of allaah ❤️, it’s one of the the best masjid in india specially, the masjid was made in ancient times by Muslim by adil shah dynasty. I don’t know it’s fact or theory but in ancient times special welcome to kings were given by naming a gate on their name so as follows a gate named aurangzeb is constructed over there, when king aurangzeb visited bijapur’s jamiya masjid, you have the childhood sbacks the meethi khatti cheezein over there. It is a must visit place in bijapur as bijapur is a historic place. Coming to interior of masjid so ,jamiya masjid is having beautiful main beautiful utmost beautiful wall with the actual gold layering on top basically the wuranic ayah’s are written on it. Architecture as very nice 👌 worthy of praise subhan allah… so peaceful place the house of allah. You have a garden 🪴 around masjid to seat and feel the best times with birds 🦅 cheering on the tomb of masjid

Undoubtedly largest mosque(in terms carpet area for Salah) in India.. Great blessing to the people of Vijayapur.. The structure is detoriating quite here and there. It seems to be the negligence of Archaeological Survey of India.. I urge and request ASI to pay heed to the condition of the monument..

The most stunning place of worship in Bijapur (Vijayapura). Sadly, the archaeology department of India does no maintenance whatsoever. It's quite likely that there are funds but gobbled up by corrupt officials. Not painted in years!! Bits falling off...

It is not that well maintained but one should visit when visiting Gol gumbaz. The interior border is claimed to be made of gold. There is parking space inside and it remains open till 9:30pm. The road in front is completely broken and narrow over congested may because it was day after Muharram and Sunday too.

Impressive large mosque which has seen better days. In regular use so be aware of dress codes etc. Little difficult to get to because of road construction all around. Huge imposing walls surrounding it.
