Overall a dry and humid place. The monuments and architectures are great. but the city kills it all. Overall a one time visit just to see all the monuments once in your lifetime. Visit these places during non summer periods. If you liked this review, please give a thumbs up below

Very nice monument but mostly ruined by WE INDIAN. Place is well maintained. You can see this ghumbaj from every part of the city. It's huge. Very steep stairs are there to reach the top. We found written names on many places. Pl don't destroy this or any monument. They are historic...

Such an architectural marvel. The structure is very huge and the lawns around are very maintained. It us ASI protected monument. To appreciate the acoustics inside, it is advisable to visit early morning. The lawns and structure is open to public at 6 am. The museum inside opens at 9 am. Even a soft whisper is audible across under the dome on the 7th floor. Once crowds increase, the noise level increases. There are 108 steep steps to reach the top.

A must visit place to experience the epicness and pure creativity of the ancient architects in very grand and astonishing manner. The astounding sound technology used by architects of that time to make sound travel form one end to another by natural means is quite amazing. Only con we have here is that you have to climb 7 floor giant rock stairs to reach on top but it's worth it. Absolutely loved my visit here.

Language Download PDF Watch Edit Gol Gumbaz is the mausoleum (tomb) of the king Mohammed Adil Shah, Adil Shahi Dynasty. Construction of the tomb, located in Bijapur , Karnataka, India, was started in 1626 and was completed in 1656. The name is based on "Gol Gumbadh" derived from "Gola Gummata" meaning "circular dome". It follows the style of culture and [Indo-Islamic architecture] . Even a slight whisper by someone standing in its gallery can be heard everywhere else in the gallery, and if somebody claps, the sound of it echoes several times.

The Adil Shahi Sultans who ruled for nearly 200 years in Bijapur had expended their utmost authority, almost exclusively, on architecture and the allied arts, each Sultan endeavored to excel his predecessor in the number, size, or splendor of his building projects. As a result, the buildings seen in and around Bijapur Fort and the town have been rightly called as the Agra of South India.

The monument is mesmerizing and well maintained. It's too crowded in Sundays and the ticket has to be bought online(post covid) by scanning the QR code and on weekends the server will be down due to traffic. Best time is to visit is during weekdays or on Saturday

I would recommend hiring the tour guide when you visit this place. Not only do you get a refresher on the history from the era this was built, but you also enjoy the different things you can do inside. The guide knows how the echo and sound works inside the building and it makes you appreciate the architecture and thought that went into building such a monument.

One of the most crowded tourist places of Uttar Karnataka. Avoid visiting in public holidays and weekends. You have to buy two separate tickets for museum and gol gumbaj each ₹20. Maintenance of ambiance is good but no drinking water facilities near.

A good place to visit. Make sure you have enough stamina to walk upstairs. It might not be an easy visit to couched potatoes.

  • 4/5 Vijaykumar P. 3 years ago on Google
Inside the fort, several places beautifully crafted and decorated are built like Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Raiza Tomb, Barah Kaman, Jod Gumbaz

  • 1/5 Unity in D. 3 years ago on Google
Gol Gumbaz is commercialized. Where ever you go inside the premises, you should pay. For ticket , price is 25 Rs for Indian citizens. And again for slippers counter charge is separate. There is no garden at all. Everything dried. Not maintained well.

There is no fort here. This is an over enthusiastic marking from a local guide. Bijapur was a fortified city and if you walk around the city you would come across the fortifications, bastions etc. This complex mainly has the world famous Gol Gumbaz, a mosque, a museum and you can see some fort walls in a distance towards the north east.
