The renovated Bapu Museum now features advanced interactive technology : Keeping pace with the digital world, Bapu Museum is now renovated with an ultra-modern ambience that provides visitors with a mesmerising experience. The Andhra Pradesh State Department of Archaeology and Museum takes the exhibits at Bapu Museum to a whole new dimension using Augmented Reality technology, giving the visitor a unique glimpse into the significant past. The Bapu Museum with AR and VR technology in Vijayawada engages and educates visitors through an exciting virtual tour where the exhibits narrate about the historical moments in an engaging manner. Visitors will have to download the Bapu Museum AR app on their Smartphones to discover interesting facts of the collection present at the museum. This is the first museum in India, to have adopted the technology of Augmented and Virtual realities. The immersive projection mapping, interactive display panels, digital book and interactive kiosks offer a visual treat to visitors. The renovated museum houses nine galleries showcasing a rare collection of antiques, sculptures, cutlery, paintings which have been preserved for over several decades. Every artefact is digitised enabling the visitors to learn more about the rich heritage of the country. All one needs to do is touch or scan the QR code, using their smartphones to know the history and interesting facts about the artefacts present at the museum. The historically significant Bapu Museum formerly known as Victoria Jubilee Museum, happens to be the place where the freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya presented the tricolour flag to Mahatma Gandhi in 1921. The same flag was adopted as the Indian national flag in 1947. The museum is open from 10.30am to 5 pm daily except Fridays and public holidays. This place is called bapu museum because in 1921 Mahatma Gandhi visited this place to receive the national flag which was designed by Sri pingali venkayya. The Bapu museum has many prehistoric artifacts that date back to 10,000 BCE and beyond. This place also has many religious idols (Hindu ,Buddha and Jain idols)which were found near Prakasam , Krishna and guntur districts. This place also has the ancient bidari artworks and china ware and ancient coins.

I visited Bapu museum (Vijayawada) on weekends. It remains open only till 5 (that's why I couldn't go in the main building). The old , but well-maintained building welcomed me. There are sculptures and hieroglyphics in the garden overseeing the museum. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming. The place was spick-and-span.

Colonial architecture that has been maintained well has a charm of its own. The exhibits are really awesome. They have artefacts from the paleolithic age, too. Shows how rich the region has been since ages. The large 1st century Buddha statue was GORGEOUS. Even the labelling is pretty good for a more obscure museum.

The museum was created as part of the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. The foundation stone was laid by Robert Sewell, District Collector of Krishna district, on 27 June 1887. Sri Pingali Venkayya presented a tri-colour flag to Mahatma Gandhi at this location in 1921. The building initially housed industrial exhibitions. It was converted to an archaeological museum under the auspices of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in 1962.

A must visit place for any museum buff! It has an excellent inventory of exhibits, tracing the beginnings of mankind to much more modern history, especially of the area referred to As Andhra Desam. It's exhibits range from numismatics, textiles, earthenware to military arms. There's an assistant AR powered app as well to assist visitors understand the exhibits better (though I couldn't get it to work smoothly).

This historic place is where the Indian National Flag was approved by Gandhiji, designed by Pingali Venkayya. This place ought to be developed more than a mere museum.

This museum is a Hidden Gem! So much to learn from it. So many amazing pieces to admire. It was sad to see that the second floor was burning hot without any a/c or ventilation, my kids and I were not able to tolerate the heat so we didn't complete the incredible exhibition. My daughter wanted to use the washroom and there was not electricity so the bathrooms were completely dark and in a very deplorable condition so we decided to leave.

Renovation of the museum enhanced influx of population. All the ancient artefacts available here are classified accordingly, and are well preserved. An app was introduced so as to get the history of specific image upon capturing in camera. Some have animation videos as well. Apart from Museum, Pingali Venkaiah Gallery where the then AICC meetings were held in 1921, gives information about how the Indian flag was handed over. Marble sculpture of Indian freedom fighters who attended the meeting with their names tagged, is the standout of all. Inscription is also made so as to describe the events happened on 31 March - 1 April 1921. Some inscriptions made on stones were left outside the museum. Probably, they might have thought to make a beautiful graden with these, but it turned out vague. Do not miss these outside sculpture area. Most inscriptions and statues are from Penuganchiprolu and surroundings, Krishna dt. But, the history and significance of the artefacts are not mentioned anywhere which is a drawback. Entry fee: ₹50/-
