Oldest and Beautiful caves at village undavalli near vijayawada . neatly maintained place no separate car park we have to park on roadside. At one side of the hill they carved caves ,one big four storey cave and others small caves. Different religious figures were there at different floors. Among All of them lying Vishnu Murty carving is fantastic and superb .fourth floor no entry it is closed for maintenance.all the surrounding views are so beautiful and we feel like sitting there for some time in green lawns. New bathrooms are constructed but not opened.we will get ice creams and tea coffee outside the gate

Great and must place to visit for those interested in History and ancient architecture. All the carvings are made on single rock on the mountain side. There no guides available, hence you have to read up extensively before visiting. There an entrance fee. Photography is permitted. Roadside parking is allowed. Just about basic eatables are available nearby... hence, carry water. Even in February it was hot, so take adequate care during summer months.

A beautiful cave cum unfinished temple made by carving a single rock. The rock painting & sculptures looking damn real & talking to you!! Entry ticket - Rs 25 Open from 9 am - 5.30 pm The view from it is beautiful...The the place Undavalli seems quite & peaceful. Inside the cave there was some smell - which might be because of yesterday's rain. Inside the temperature is cool & lower than outside. Overall loved the place - one can easily spend 30 mins - 1 hr A must visit for architecture & art lovers. One request - don't dump plastic bottles or wrappers there during your visit !!

A must go place. Will need about 45 minutes to be spent there. Has a lot of steps to be climbed. Just one shop outside. Best time to go there is 9 am when it is not too hot and just opens. Parking will be on the road. So not sure about how it would be during peak time.

Good for a short visit, especially if the weather is pleasant. I would not classify it as must see for tourists. I have been to Ajanta, Ellora, so comparatively Undavalli caves are quite small. The Vishnu statue in sleeping posture inside the cave(watch out for the bats) is impressive. I really the like the view from the top though, open space and lot of greenery around.

Ancient caves of 5th century with rich culture. We can see attractive statues of Rushi's. Marvellous and long stone carving of Padmanabha swamy Diety on second floor of the cave. Ancient transcripts can be seen on the floor of second floor. View from top of the cave is mesmerizing. Negative: seems like these caves are completely neglected and not maintained well , it smells quite odd Inside. Entry ticket is 25/- per person. We can reach here easily but return might be troublesome if you don't have your vehicle as you have to wait for public transport.

Nice place to visit if you prefer to stay away from crowd. Great view from the cave. You can easy spend 30 minutes to 1 hour here. It is situated near the town, so heavy driving as well. It could have been managed more properly as there is entry ticket of 25₹.

These caves have a lot of history. Great to know how in olden times that have made such caves which are well designed. Small caves but can be visited anytime. There are no proper safety measures for tourists. More refreshments and facilities for the tourists will help a lot.

Historical site. Well maintained. 4 tiered, carve out of single rock. Ground and top are unfinished. First floor, there is hardly anything. Second floor has large sized Lord Vishnu sculpture in Anant-shayana posture. No tour guide, security guard gives little bit of overview. Tickets needs to be purchased at the entrance by cash. No credit card machine or UPI codes were displayed. Parking is on road side. Single toilets are there, separate for men and women. Plastic free zone. Avoid visiting during hot weather.

Place used to be really scenic and beautiful back in 2008 when i visited for first time. Now its like caves on the road. No much scenic beauty is existing, also top floor of the caves are closed for public visit. It has become like just small park . I personally felt very disappointed visiting the place in completely opposite scenario to my previous experience. But the best part of the caves is the Anantha padmanabha statue which is lord vishnu in sleeping position is really huge and visual treat for tourists who visit this place. I shall post the detailed hostoric information later in my next visit.

These caves are carved in Gupta style of rock-cut Architecture which goes back to 4th-5th century CE. Most of emperor of Gupta's were Vaishnavas so we can see many sculpture of Narasimha, Vishnu and Ramayans stories. They are associated with the Vishnukundina kings of 420–620 CE. These caves are dedicated to Anantha Padmanabha and Narashimha. Later Jain and Buddhist monks used these as rest houses.

There are variation in depth of each floor. The ground floor is an unfinished low pillared hall with 8 pillars and 7 door openings on façade. The first storey accommodates triple shrine at back, each with the pillared hall in front, originally dedicated to the Trinity (Siva, Vishnu, and Brahma)

I had visited this place on a public holiday + weekend, so you can imagine the crowd there! Couldn't appreciate it much since there was huge family crowd, however I found the view from the Undavalli Caves to be more scenic. It also has a sleeping posture statue of Lord Vishnu on second floor of the cave. Will advise others to visit the place on a normal weekday where one can spend time in peace with nature here. The cave is open till 6pm in the evening and the entry ticket counter closes by 5-5.15pm. There are a lot of smart monkeys, don't try to mock/play with them, they might outsmart you :p I liked that they're promoting cashless payments. The entry ticket is ₹25 if you're paying by cash and ₹20 if you're making cashless payment.

Undavalli Caves in Vijayawada are an architectural wonder that offers a glimpse into India's rich cultural heritage. These rock-cut caves are believed to date back to the 7th century and are a testimony to the craftsmanship of the ancient Indian architects. These caves, located on a hill, offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The intricate carvings and sculptures on the walls and ceilings are a treat to the eyes and offer insights into the life and times of the people who lived in the region. The caves are divided into four levels, with the first level housing a beautiful statue of Lord Vishnu in a reclining pose. The second level has a beautiful statue of Lord Brahma in a sitting pose, while the third level houses a beautiful statue of Lord Shiva in a dancing pose. The fourth level has a beautiful statue of Buddha in a meditative pose. The Undavalli Caves are a must-visit place for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and people looking for a unique cultural experience. The caves are well-maintained, and the staff is friendly, making it an ideal destination for a family outing or a picnic with friends. Overall, I highly recommend the Undavalli

A great place to visit. Only cash accepted even though its under ASI. Not much information provided about these caves. Its a temple of Vishnu and depicts the avatars. The top portion is not allowed to climb. The resting vishnu carving is amazing and puja is still done . Rest of it is not much taken care of. Worth visiting once. 25 INR per person. Parking available beside the road. Many people use this spot for photoshoot.

On the second floor Vishnu is very beautiful. Worth of visit. Its under ASI but some cement patch works are done which is completely damage its antique view. Some rishis status are there but that all are very recent cement statue.

A beautiful place to visit with family. With fresh air from the fields near the caves, you can enjoy a lot. Especially kids will like the place a lot. It's a 4-storey cave temple carved under the Chalukyan Period. There are old telugu scriptures on the wall that you can see. Those depict the power of Telugu language. And we can also see Lord Padmanabha Swamy. It's very huge and we will be left wondering how's it even possible to carve that big statue. The evening after 3:00 PM is the best time to visit there. Go there and spend some quality time learning some historical stuff and also entering the hard, Rock-cut Cave Temple.

Best for family time, great and kind staff as well. History is can be understood by seeing a place NOT ONLY by reading in books. Architecture is of buddhist vihara and also there is a huge rock cut anatha padmanabha swamy. Example of interfaith peaceful co-existence. Went with pre teen kid. Sure was impressed and enthused by the sights. Learnings for adults too. Drivable from Vijayawada, On other side of Krishna (Guntur Dist). Parking could be a problem on a crowded day. Round trip is 3 hrs max. Must go atleast take your kids - absorb the small standing testimony of cultural history of the region.

I visited during monsoon 2023 when it was cloudy. The surroundings are very beautiful to give a pleasant feel. I sat for an hour after going around the caves. These old caves carved from the mountain were temples of Vaishnavism from the 7th century, till the 16th century. Now they are just archeological monuments. Many statues outside the caves (sandstone made) got eroded due to weathering for centuries. Innermost statue is carved from granite, so it sustained. You can view the full cave within 30 minutes, unless you know old sculpture techniques and are interested in knowing more. You get water and snacks just outside the premises. Entry ticket cost is ₹25 for adults.

It is mostly an unfinished carved cave but, one will definitely wonder how it was built. A huge sleeping statue of Lord Vishnu inside the cave is just amazing. Few tunnel paths were closed as it leads to some other destination saying that people who went in, never came back 😨. However, It is safe to visit. As it is a historical place, you'll love the experience. Note - camera equipment except Mobile phone, camera stand or stabilizers are not allowed.

The caves look decent after taken over by Archilogy wing, but if you are expecting stunning sculptures and cave carvings be ready to disappointed. The view is great from the caves, that's the second best part about these caves...the major attraction is Sri Padbhanabha swami. It's totally worth the visit, but that's all about this.

An old unfinished rock cut temple near Vijayawada. It a good visit if one's interested in historical monuments. The carvings are very nice. There is a Anantha Padmanabha Swamy idol in the second level which is big and similar to the Srirangam temple. This is not a temple per se but more of a tourist spot now. However the caretakers do request people to remove shoes before going up. .. (but unfortunately some people don't care). I assume during weekends or tourist season it will be crowded as there is not much of space inside the rock.

It is very good tourist place, those sculptures & ancient place take us to bygone era, such a monument Concerned authoritis are not taking care properly. some parts of the interior cave were shabbily maintained , one can find bats everywhere unpleasent smell spoils the spirit of monument . They collect minmal enterence fee from that revenue authorities can take initiative to clean mess and appoint one guide . Its is worth visiting monumental place once in while.

The main complex is relatively small and can be covered in an hour. The monolithic carvings inside are magnificent, especially the Anantasayana Vishnu.

Proud to see these great sculptures that were created during 6th century AD. It's a decent place that takes approx. 3 hrs to roam around. Anantasayana vishnu is simply awesome. The heritage site is very well maintained.

The place was good to visit once but the maintenance of the caves inside was too bad. The steps inside the cave are slippery just watch urself and climb and it became a park with some stuff outside in which many college students are found there.

It is ok to visit the caves for its Natural beauty .. but very poor maintainance with Bats allover and it's weast.. dead bats around making the place contaminated.. donot touch any thing there since everywhere u can see Bat toilet on all monuments it is not that hygenic. If you prefer hygene then skip it.. this is not for you.. just for few photographs it is recommended.

Hello friends, I am very sorry to say that our religion is in danger, our youth will destroy our religion Today I visited Undavalli Caves which is a very historical and religious place but I was disappointed Because there are a lot of Hindu and other religious youths who are going to the cave wearing shoes, and taking darshan of the deities (Hanuman, Narasimha Swamy, Padmanabha Swamy etc.). I request that trust (which collects visiting charges) please implement the rule of barefoot darshan. please

This is a beautiful Chalukyan era caves situated near Vijayawada. The sculptures here are mesmerizing and well preserved . ASI has done a commendable job of keeping this rock cut cave well maintained. There is sculpture of Lord Vishnu sleeping in the serpent bed , which you can look very closely. It is around 20 feet long and with a very beautiful face. Do visit this place when you are in Vijayawada

Ancient Caves Full of Surprises! Review: Undavalli Caves near Prakasam Barrage are really amazing! These caves were made a long, long time ago, and they're like a special window into the past. When you explore inside, you'll see lots of carvings and pictures on the walls. It's like a big, rocky museum! There's even a huge statue of a resting Lord Vishnu that looks so peaceful. The best part is the view outside the caves. You can see a big, calm water area called Prakasam Barrage. It's like a painting come to life! These caves are a mix of old stories, clever art, and pretty nature. No matter if you like old things, stories, or just pretty places, these caves are a must-see. I really think you should visit the Undavalli Caves near Prakasam Barrage. It's like taking a fun trip back in time and you'll be amazed at how smart and creative people were long ago!

👍 A quick pitstop and quite a beautiful one where you can essentially see the tunnel entrance and the backwater of the Tunga Bhadra Dam. There were a few ways to get to the water's edge, although not sure how. There are lights illuminating the tunnel during the night as well as the day.
