Total abandonment is what can be described about the surroundings of this architectural complex, both the mausoleum and the popular Bolita del Mundo, the fountain that is in front of the Congress and the City Hall. It is not advisable to walk around here at night because it is taken over by prostitutes, drug addicts, among other marginal groups.

Originally Created as a Monument to Peace and Brotherhood of the Free World in 1955, it was the culmination of an ambitious urban renewal project of the Dominican Capital in the 1950s developed by the dictatorship (1930-1961) of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. When the Dictator fell, its name was changed to its current name in honor of an expedition of hundreds of young people who tried to invade the Dominican Republic on June 14, 1959 to end the Trujillo dictatorship. This work is the centerpiece of an architectural complex inaugurated on December 20, 1955 under the framework of the ‘‘[Fair of Peace and Brotherhood of the Free World]’’ that includes Avenues, Public Buildings, Theaters and Hotels. This Fair is the idea of one of its most famous courtiers Don Virgilio Alvarez. It was designed by the Dominican Architect Guillermo González, graduated from Yale University, United States, with Post-Graduate studies in Europe. He is considered the Father of Dominican Architecture. It's a shame that this place is almost always closed.

Nice place. Of interest to those who like Dominican History, especially the era of the dictatorship. I don't know if it is open to the public every day.
