Stunning! My wife and I stayed at this hotel for four days as part of honeymoon trip around Central America. This hotel in genuinely the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. We had a street view room with a balcony which still had a great view and you could hear the street musicians from our room. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, Victor was a highlight! We did not book any tours or have breakfast at the hotel, however we had some laundry done which was completed to a excellent standard. I would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in CDMX, as it is very well located for exploring the city.

Don't stay here. It's gorgeous but the hospitality is non-existent. And even though the lobby is beautiful, the atmosphere is bizarre and sterile. There's not even a bar in the lobby, no seating, just a weird little check in desk tucked away in a corner. We checked out after one night due to multiple issues, such as the bathroom flooding, things not working, and the room just not being cleaned properly at all. So disappointing. Attempting to get a refund for the nights we didn't stay has been frustrating. This isn't a modern hotel so they won't refund to my credit card. When Cynthia or Jose actually respond to me, they give conflicting information. I'm still trying to get a receipt weeks later but they must be incapable of fulfilling such a simple request. The only positive thing I can say, besides the view and the ceiling, is that the doormen are friendly. Anyways, look at the lobby ceiling then get out of there. Edit: of course I can get a reply to a public review but not in a private 30+ thread email with the property. Still no receipt. I recommend to other travelers to just dispute charges with your credit card instead of going through this hotel's crazy wire transfer process if you require a refund.

This place ruined my vacation. I was treated like trash, ignored by staff, staff rolling their eyes, so much so that my partner ended up in tears. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Numerous things happened and we tried brushing it off to enjoy our vacation, but it was too much. It began with them giving us the wrong room and had a back and forth to get what we paid for. After getting our new room we tried taking a nap, but loud construction began on the room below us. We called the front desk and were told construction would continue till a certain time (construction started up the next morning too), so we went upstairs to use their roof top restaurant. Our server (Fernando or Freddy) gave us our first drinks and never returned - waited for more than half an hour - only to see him later counting his tips. I finally asked the manager and turned out our server had left for lunch. Not only that, but other servers just stared at me and refused to help as well, knowing full well my server had left. Then I had the misfortune of asking Fatima for the name of my server, where she rolled her eyes, scoffed and pretended not to understand me. Save yourself the headache and do not come here. I am not sure if they have had a change in management, but these were some of the issues we experienced and not all. (Full disclosure: I ordered the room through American Express Travel. I am not sure if that was the reason I was treated in this manner.)

Finally was able to stay in this breathtaking Hotel. From the moment you walk in it’s an experience. They always make you feel special and always make sure you enjoy your stay. We had the zocalo view from our room which was amazing every morning and evenings. Don’t miss the opportunity to have breakfast/brunch in the upstairs restaurant. They have great choices all different dishes from Mexico and everything is fresh from the Orange juice to the handmade tortillas. Will definitely come back to this amazing hotel.

This hotel is absolutely perfect!!! My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a week. The service is the best, and the hotel is beautiful. Francisco (head of security) took the time to explain the history of the building and even took me on a mini tour. Additionally, EVERYONE: from the bellhop, doormen, receptionist, cleaning staff, and security was extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. On your next trip to Mexico City I highly recommend you stay here. You will definitely not regret it.

Gran Hotel Ciudad de México is beautiful! The service is as amazing as the beauty of the hotel. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the complimentary water bottles and apples. Upon arrival we were greeted with champagne. We arrived at 1:30am so it was a wonderful surprise to be met with this and a pastry with our name on it. Overall our stay was relaxing. We recommend brunch on the terrace!

Best experience. We are planning to go back next year with more family. Diego was a great help. Remember to tip him well! However, the whole staff is fantastic.

Beautiful hotel! We are so enjoying our time here. We have a room at the front of the hotel so cannot see the square but our view is very enjoyable. We have a little balcony to stand out on. Staff is extremely nice and very helpful.

Historic hotel delivers on location, staff, and room comforts. I feel safe here. The room is clean and has all the amenities I expect. Water is hot and pressure is good. It's in the heart of activity so don't expect to nap during the day. Quiet at night. As a picky traveller I can say the lobby is a must experience and the base rooms are comfortable.

Excellent place to stay. The building inside is so beautiful and historic. Appreciate the way the building is being maintained. The elevator (not the regular one, but one on the side) is so good to have a ride. I was told it's 2nd oldest in Mexico. Staff were so great. Very easy to talk to and gave plenty of information on local sites and history. Recommend to take tours from the hotel, not expensive and very well organised and coordinated. It's located in the busy part of town with plenty of things to do and lots of shopping.

Not only is this a historic and stunningly beautiful hotel, but the staff were kind and attentive and the breakfast was some of the most delicious food we ate on our trip. The location was convenient and we were able to walk to many shops and restaurants. The hotel did an amazing job of scheduling taxis and answered all our questions about destinations and more. It was a truly wonderful experience and I can’t wait to come visit again.

Lovely hotel and staying here is a unique experience. It is this type of hotel that inspired me to visit Mexico City. You are treated very well while there. The breakfast on the terrace while watching the sunrise, is the highlight. Definitely add on the breakfast option to your purchase. We were greeted upon arrival and the staff made sure everything was easy and clear for us. If you arrive a bit early, they will do a baggage hold for you

I've been wanting to stay in this hotel for some time now. Finally got to visit and we were very happy with the stay. Right on the corner of the Zocolo and everything was decorated for Christmas. Staff was nice enough to give us a corner room so we had a wonderful view. Staff super super nice and helpful with any and everything we needed. The breakfast buffet on the roof was also amazing. One of the best we have ever had at a hotel. Of course the lobby is amazing and we were able to ride on the old school (second oldest in Mexico) a couple of times. Only comments, our heater in the room didn't work very well but the room had a space heater to help keep us warm.

Hotel is beautiful but it is extremely noisy. During the day there was construction and you cant sleep. And during night there is a nightlife that never ends and hotel walls are not thick enough to drown out noise. Due to this im giving it 2 stars if not 5. Construction started promptly at 8am and did not end till 5pm

We really enjoyed our time here. It's a lovely city hotel. What stopped me giving 5 stars was the way I was asked if I wanted to add a tip every time I paid for a meal. I do tip but I don't like to be asked. Breakfast is included (free) but you have to sign for breakfast. You then are asked if you want to tip. I have been all over the world and this is the first time I've ever had to sign for my free breakfast. It's little more than an excuse to ask for a tip. It would put me off staying here again

Great location and beautiful historic building. My husband and I stayed in the 3rd floor – our room was very spacious overlooking the center. The first night we stayed here there was a musty smell in our room, it appeared to be coming from the air-conditioning through the hotel. However, it did improve during the second night, and I have to say that was the only not so great part about our stay. Everything else; from the service, the restaurant in the 4th floor, and their rooftop – very pleasing!

  • 5/5 D M. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely hotel with a wonderful, friendly, and helpful staff. The check in desk person was nice enough to get us reservations with a better restaurant than the original restaurant already fully booked. We are vegans and the breakfast buffet still had a few wonderful dishes we were available to eat. The food was incredible and the service was fast and friendly. We will definitely rebook with them on our next trip to CDMX.

I had a great experience at the restaurant/terrace. Marcos the waiter’s recommendations were amazing, without him I wouldn’t have known where to go in Mexico City. Very recommendable! Friendly staff, also the hotel itself is beautiful. The stained glass ceilings are to die for! Must see! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place is amazing and the service is top-tier! My mother and I spent the weekend here, and it was worth it. The rooms were super comfortable, the staff fantastic! The breakfast on the Terraza was so delicious and the views beautiful. I would recommend it and can't wait to stay there again!

  • 5/5 Jim A. 5 months ago on Google
This is not a luxurious hotel but for me it’s definitely worth it, you need to have in your mind that this is an old hotel. The architecture is amazing and the staff will do anything to make you feel welcome. They offer free tea, coffee, apples, water and some other treats. The location is perfect just in front of Zocalo. I will definitely be back.

  • 5/5 Steven T. 2 years ago on Google
Wow, what an experience. Stayed here for 5 nights during our vacation and I would come back in a heartbeat if I could! The location is literally in the middle of it all, right within the Centro. The staff did everything they could to make us feel welcome. The rooms were clean, the Terrace restaurant absolutely delicious, and the room service quick and tasty. Only point to consider, as this hotel is next to the Zocalo, which is a very popular place for tourists and residents to meet up and have fun, it is definitely noisy. The windows block much of the sound, but if you are a light sleeper, you may have a hard time enjoying a daytime siesta. Ear plugs work wonders for that though. Can't wait to stay here again!

  • 5/5 Tori E. 9 months ago on Google
What an experience! The check in is amazing. Bellman takes your bags, you get champagne at the front desk, and a ride on the antique elevators (while getting a short history lesson). The building is amazing and beautiful. Service is great. Perfect location on the square but also close to shopping. Room is comfortable and had everything we needed.

  • 4/5 Iz 5 months ago on Google
Quite nice overall. Really central. Rooms are nice and old-worldy. Excellent breakfast food and great view from the balcony. Awful staff - breakfast staff can barely be convinced to take an order, and they were unable to turn the aircon off in the rooms, so we caught a cold from staying here.

  • 5/5 Κώστας . 4 months ago on Google
One of the greatest hotels I’ve ever stayed. The building originally opened as a department store in 1899. Since then, its art nouveau bones have been carefully maintained: The curving staircase is a replica of the one at Paris's Le Bon Marché; the antique elevator, made of iron and concrete, was the first of its kind in Mexico City. The only problem was the Wifi, which didn’t work very well.

  • 5/5 Julian G. 6 months ago on Google
Great spot to walk in and admire the lobby with Tiffany Glass ceiling and ancient elevator. Recommend going for a meal or drink to the rooftop restaurant to have a view over the city, Zócalo and all the way to the mountains.

I loved this experience. I was on vacation with my family and we had the most wonderful relaxing time. Our room had a view of the plaza and it was stunning to see at night. Every morning we had a breakfast buffet on the terrace with fresh juice and food. For a treat we had dinner on the terrace with the most elegant refreshing food I've ever had.

  • 5/5 Bernardo C. 4 months ago on Google
Very welcoming front desk and staff. The room with the view of the plaza are great. Cleaned daily. The terrace dine is really good food is fresh and they have a grill for food. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend

Often, the value of actual hospitality is underrated in the hospitality industry, and it's overshadowed by fancy facilities and frills. Not at Gran Hotel, where the staff treats you like their own guest. They are warm and will go out of their way to help you out. Oh, and the hotel itself is a heritage site with exceptional facilities & a location to kill for! Absolute, must visit. If I am ever in Mexico City again, I am staying at Gran for sure.

The lobby is the star of the show. It is magnificent. Our room was large with a very tall ceiling. We arrived very early, well before check-in time, and the staff looked after our bags and gave us access to a lounge and toilets. It's right in the historic centre on the main plaza and within reach of transport, parks, and all the things a tourist like us needed.

  • 5/5 Kata G. 3 months ago on Google New
We went to Gran Hotel for a breakfast in the rooftop but unfortunately they didn’t serve food there on this day. We ended up to try the buffet style breakfast on the top floor with a view and it was really authentic mexican breakfast. I liked it it was delicious with countless choices. The highlight of our visit was to watch a little bit the behind the scenes of a Netflix series in the hall. Exactly front of the entrance.

Carlos and Ricardo at this establishment were absolutely Incredible. Amazing. Stupendous. Fabulous. Detailed. Attentive. Charming. Charismatic and of course overall lovely with very welcoming hospitality and kindness. This is a must go location if you are visiting CDMX. You get the best service, amazing food and a gorgeous view of all the history and culture of this beautiful city. Must stop if you’re cool!

This hotel was everything and more. The staff was very accommodating and the service was great! The terrace restaurant had great views as well!

  • 4/5 Thomas P. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing view of the main square. This place is absolutely worth a visit for that reason. The drinks are reasonably priced, and outrageously boozy. Do be warned that the quality control is loose as heck. The pictures below are of the same drink. Different sizes, different colors, completely different taste. That being said, I’d still recommend to a friend. Can’t beat the view.

  • 5/5 Alberto N. 2 years ago on Google
Service and attention to detail was amazing. They were very accommodating to my 89 year old grandmother and helped her move around the building. She felt like a movie star staying at this place. Don’t miss out it’s a piece of history and something you need to see.

  • 5/5 Tom K. 2 years ago on Google
We went to visit the rooftop terrace and had drinks. The views are stunning, the staff is super friendly. We ordered the signature margarita and it’s huge, very nice. Special shout out to the doorman, as he was extremely friendly when welcoming us and telling us about the history of the hotel while listening to the opera singers just outside the entrance. The lobby is beautiful.

  • 5/5 Becca P. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely beautiful hotel! Love the old architecture. The staff was great! Friendly and accommodating. Love when we got there they took the old fashioned elevator to our floor. There is a regular elevator to use for everyday use. It was raining the first evening we were there and they let us borrow an umbrella so we could continue walking around. We did try the buffet breakfast and it was ok but we found it not worth the price but that is just us....breakfast does have a beautiful view of the square and the fruit was the best part! The room itself was very clean and comfortable!! I would definitely stay here again!!

  • 5/5 Alison G. 2 years ago on Google
Best hotel experience ever! We got one of the larger suites with a living room. It came with electronic blackout curtains, scented toilet paper, and the best service I've ever had! From the receptionist to the bellhop and room service, every single person takes pride in their job to make sure you have the best customer experience possible. I recommend splurging on a room that overlooks the plaza. Can't beat the location!

  • 5/5 Martin M. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing hotel at the hart of the city. The architecture is beautiful and the view from the restaurant at the roof balcony is wonderful. The food and service are amongst the best. Rooms are spacious and comfortable but not particularly well decorated. Food prices and room rates are good considering its category.

  • 5/5 Javier Jaime Solis L. 2 years ago on Google
I was there in December 2021.. it was quite nice.. the hotel is beautiful (amazing ceiling ) and the room was very spacious, clean, with big bathroom, high ceiling, a small but good size fridge and amazing view... friendly and helpful staff..the restaurant was good with an awesome view.. I definitely would stay again there :)

  • 5/5 Ellie L. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful hotel and rooms, perfect location in the historic center, and lovely staff. After a long flight, we were greeted with glasses of champagne and a brief historic tour of the hotel, including a trip in the original elevator. What more could you want?

  • 5/5 Ludmila Garcia J. 2 years ago on Google
We had dinner at the terrace, Rib eye, guacamole, queso/chistorra, asparagus, lengua... it was really good. The view con there is amazing, and the hotel was beautifully decorated. I love it!!

We were there for an overnight stay in Mexico City on our way back from a beach vacation to the US. It is a remarkable place. Hint: try to arrive during daylight hours to experience the full beauty of the atrium and elevator. The hotel is located in an area that is mostly pedestrian, so be prepared to walk the last block on foot (staff will assist with luggage). Although our stay was short, we did have just enough time to enjoy this luxurious hotel, which is also in one of the best locations of the whole town.

  • 5/5 Fabiola M. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent customer service! We were greeted with champagne and a dessert. The view was spectacular especially from La Terraza restaurant. The hotel had a vintage vibe. The tour on the old elevator was great! The room had a balcony and there were street singers that we could hear. My only complaint would be the parking. It took us two tries around the zocalo to figure out where the parking was. It also does not come included with the room. But that was no big deal the views and customer service were the best part.

  • 4/5 Mollie 2 years ago on Google
Terrific hotel, very centrally located. I was concerned about the safety of staying in the Zocalo after reading but felt very safe here even at night. There’s a Starbucks right across the pedestrian street which was nice. The beds are a little hard which gave me hip pain by the end of the week and they don’t have central heat so you have to use a space heater. Also the rooms do not have bath tubs (hard for us traveling with an infant). I told them about my husband’s birthday ahead of time and they even gave him a little cake. The staff were all great!

  • 5/5 Ben C. 1 year ago on Google
Easy and fast check in. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and the service was impeccable. Of course it goes without saying that if the purpose of your visit is to see the historic town and the surroundings, this is a very good choice. The lobby of the hotel is worth visiting even if you are not planning to stay. The rooftop restaurant had a good breakfast buffet with an food ordering station. This hotel is overpriced compared to hotels in the area but I nonetheless recommend it and would go back to it.

  • 4/5 Dillon R. 1 year ago on Google
Was really hoping I could rate this 5 stars but clearly I was not. Simple things prevented it, and one was there is no refrigerator in your room despite ample space available, and my shower was clogged the first day. To their credit they did fix it the same day I mentioned it (after I had to take a shower in a flooded tub) but I don’t expect this should have even occurred. Their restaurant/bar is a good sit down place to enjoy a nice rooftop meal, but for patrons that just want to pop into the “hotel bar” for a quick drink have to ask for a table and sit alone in the dining area instead of any common bar area. Customer service was good.

  • 5/5 Caleb E. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful hotel but the star of the show is the service. I could not rate the service any higher. Hands down the nicest staff we have ever experienced at any hotel. They poured us champagne upon our arrival, gave us a short tour with some hotel history, gave us a ride in the old cage lift (very cool), brought our bags to the room, and explained every amenity in the room/in general. In addition, on the bed they left us a small welcome treat that was customized with my name. We unfortunately had to check out before breakfast, so they offered to give us box lunches to go at no additional cost. The sandwiches they packed were really good; especially for being a free gift that they did not need to do for us. Excellent service, truly a treat.

My friends and I had the pleasure to have a wonderful Sunday brunch on the terrace restaurant overlooking the iconic Zócalo. Our servers Fredi and Humberto not only met, but anticipated our needs while feasting on delicious traditional Mexican dishes. I HIGHLY recommend this experience to locals and tourists.

  • 1/5 Gemma L. 2 years ago on Google
I have just tried to visit this hotel for a cocktail on the advice of a very good friend. I try to take in the best bars in cities I travel to. The guard on the door was incredibly rude and said there is not a bar just a restaurant. It’s such a shame I can’t feedback a positive experience to my good friend. The instant judgment was also quite astonishing and not what I expect of 5 star hotels I visit.

  • 5/5 Ana A. 1 year ago on Google
I had never felt so pampered as in this hotel, the staff was always very friendly and cordial. Amazing breakfasts and they made us vegan options. Cinthia at reception is wonderful, she gave me good advice to enjoy the city. With the security measures up to date, they took care of us all the time, they checked our temperature and sterilized everything. Thank you very much for making my stay a great week.

Absolutely AMAZING! Everything about this hotel was breathtaking from the moment you enter. We stayed in the master suite with a view of the Zocalo which at night leaves you in complete awe! It was so hard to leave this place, but we know we will be returning whenever we visit the city!

Amazing hotel, full of history!! I highly recommend this hotel. The staff is really polite and helpful. The location is perfect. The breakfast is one of the best in the City center. The bedroom is comfortable and cozy. We will come back for our future trip to Mexico City

I spent only one night here but I loved it. The location is incredible, right on the main Square, independence square! Some rooms even face it. The hotel ceiling is incredibly beautiful, imported from France in 1908. There's a Starbucks opposite the hotel. I loved my stay here
