I've been coming to this embassy for 14 years. The Passport People at the windows are wonderful - very well trained, helpful and considerate! They get an A++. But The security guards on the INSIDE of the embassy are some of the rudest....most demanding and infuriating humans I've encountered. Today's trip to the embassy was no different, in just two hours... FOUR different security guards did their best to ruin our day. While everyone else at the embassy strives to make you feel on American soil, The security guards strive to make you feel like an INMATE at a state penitentiary. Please reassign these individuals to the COLDEST most HOSTILE place on earth.....OR simply teach them it is very possible to maintain control & order WITHOUT conceding manners, education, and respect for others. Thanks for listening!

This has been a terrible experience as a US Citizen I fell totally denied of my rights. A simple passport renewal turned into a nightmare. I was told to fill out the DS82 format along with 2 pictures and cash to renew on site...and to bring on Thursdays from 1 -2 PM. After waiting in line until 1:15p (today 1/622) the person finally showed up to attend the US Citizens. When he attended me it was already 1:30P and said that the form wasnt correct because it didnt have a barcode showing. He also said I needed a copy of my passport (no where in any instructions was this mentioned). We quickly got both done and was there a 1:58 where he promply show the window when he saw I was arriving. When one of the guards contacted him he said he had told me I only had a half hour. If this is the tretament of US Citizens I can't imagine the treatment of others. I hope this is looked into to be able to provide US Citizens to proper respect and service we deserve.

the us embassy is like a banana boat country embassy. i had requested an emergency passport renewal appointment where they where supposed to get back to me in 3 days its been 3 weeks and i havent heard anything. they give u the wrong forms, the wrong directions, if u ask for an english speaker they transfer u to a spanish speaker, they tell u they will send info to your email or phone and they dont. if these would b life or death emergencies we would all be dead.

It’s an embassy, the officers inside are super nice and competent…the organization on the outside, however, is a bit chaotic…and if you only speak English Can be challenging to navigate. Would be great if the outside lines had clearer demarcation for where to go for what, as you tend to see a lot of confused people trying to ask around for where they should be waiting.

Worst embassy I've ever had to deal with. Their phone receptionists hang up the phone when they're tired of answering questions. I had to call back 6 times. A shame and a stain on the United States.

It really sucks that my best friend can't visit me in the United States. You will be asked to bring supporting documents to your interview, but you are instructed not to give any documents to the interviewer without being asked. The process is obscure, and no explanation is given for a denial. The United States government is racist.

Excellent service and staff is very helpful and friendly. A few things to note: 1. Line starts forming before your appointment time so plan to get there earlier 2. Do not carry your phone / smart phone - they will not let you take it inside 3. The line moves fairly fast outside and inside - I was in and out in 60 minutes 4. Water is available inside 5. The website says no appointments for third country nationals but they are processing visas for non Mexican residents

Go to your appointment on time, attend to the document requirements. Try to heed the instructions of the security personnel, at this point they lack training and warmth, to serve people in English or Spanish. Congratulations to the consulars... I leave you this very useful information in case you want to know what an administrative procedure is... one star less to the security personnel, who are Mexicans According to the official website of the United States Embassy, the fact that the visa is in "administrative processing" means that the consular determined that the "applicant was not eligible."

It is a matter of reading carefully and patiently. When you arrive at the corner of the embassy, there are staff giving directions. You have to train, they may not check the schedule but for order and civility, we should try to arrive at our appointment time. You have to wait in line, bring the documents as they were separated at the CAS. Just that, no cell phone, no watch, no belt. The less you can carry, the better. If your visa application intentions are clear, you don't need to delve into it. If you have any paper, minutes, or anything that you think is necessary depending on the nature of your application, bring it. The important thing is that you guarantee that you enter and exit, that you have how and with what $$. It doesn't matter how you dress, appearance is not decisive, just come neat and orderly. Everyone does their job to the best of their ability, giving precise instructions. I think we are all frustrated when people don't listen carefully to instructions and it is understandable that the staff gets tired, but I see opinions of people who like to get offended by nothing. It is more work to fill out the form than on the day of the interview. Some special cases, perhaps of their system, take you to a second row inside which can make you take half an hour longer than average. Between 1 and 2 hrs.

Today was one of the worst experiences I’ve had at the embassy. The interview went well but now they have instituted a new payment for work visas, which is quite hefty, but that is not my main complaint. My issue today was that it took 3 hours “sitting” in line to make my payment at the cashier. There were approximately 100 people in front of me and only one person taking payments one by one in cash or via a legacy payment system that only accepted the credit card magnetic strip. Of course, this prompted a series of issues with people who had to leave the embassy and come back, via complicated security screening, to bring cash with them because the embassy refused to install a decent POS system that would work with all banks and card issuers. More than inconvenient, this embassy frankly feels humiliating and dehumanizing. Note that cell phones are not allowed inside. So my ordeal today meant 5 hours of being incommunicated, unable to work, unable to attend family matters, of which at least 3 hours were completely unjustified and due to organizational matters. There’s not even a working clock inside! Nobody knew if they were running late or needed to fill again their parquimetro. The security officers are also not very kind and the CAS employees barely can handle the amount of people inside this facility. I also noted that the egress route plans posted on the wall did not match the interior of the facility and placement of waiting areas, making the building potentially hazardous. The United States can certainly do a better effort of treating nationals from their number one trade partner in a worthy way. This building represents them and their policy towards Mexico. Gone are the days when ambassador Chris would respond to applicant questions via Twitter. This time they even rescheduled my appointment without notice a few days in advance. Without regard of any travel plans or expenses I may have already incurred in. Thanks

Just like the Consulates General and Consular Agencies of the United States, the Embassy in Mexico City is absolutely useless, possibly even more so. This isn't just a review for the Embassy itself, but the entire process of renewing a passport from abroad. Not that a review ever stopped anyone from dealing with an embassy, it's not like you have a choice. The online portal walks you (supposedly) through your passport application. And even though you're renewing a limited validity passport, it asks that you make a non-refundable payment of $140 for the application, despite the State Department website telling you it's not required for the form that the portal just filled out *for you*. That passport photo tool on the State Dept website? Upload your photo (which appears to be up to standard, but I guess I'll never know 🤷🏼‍♂️) in, and the portal will adjust it automatically so that the crop is perfect. Or so you'd think. All it does is resize the photo from whatever resolution it was taken in to 600x600, as if it isn't going to get printed and mailed anyway. The Embassy will just send your photo right back to you with a red check mark and not a single specific highlighted as to why your photo just isn't good enough. Not to mention every single one of your signatures has to be a perfect match, despite your initial passport being issued before the age of 18 and the most recent only a year after. Sorry USA, that you spend too many tax dollars on fighting proxy wars with Russia and Afghanistan to teach public school students how to acquire a perfect signature that absolutely must not change even a little bit. Oh and by the way America: it's 2022 and there's this little thing called email. Also phones. Those are cool. It's not like I had to fill out a box for each on the renewal form. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

They are terrible!! I had to call 4 freaking times just to ask a simple question and they transferred me with like 6 different people every time I called and every single person told me I was transferred to the wrong department. They wasn't not even a little polite and this guy who told me he was the attendant #10 OMG! The rudest person I ever had to talk to.

Stop using COVID as an excuse for the inhumane waiting times for k1 visa interviews. It's no longer justified. All the other North, Central, and South American U.S. embassies grant k1 interviews within a few months (or weeks) of receiving the NOA2. Mexico City though? 9+ months--and it keeps getting worse. DO K1 INTERVIEWS MORE THAN ONE DAY A WEEK.

The U.S. embassy in Mexico City is truly a sad stupid joke. I went there to find out about my status as a U.S. Army Intelligence Veteran and not only is the VA center at the embassy no longer there but the workers were so utterly incompetent I wound up being sent to homeland security that has no connection whatsoever to VA matters.

Went to get an emergency passport. Agents were great. Make sure to have all your documents and forms in order beforehand and copies. I called before going and they walked me through the process so I wasn't missing any documents. Make sure to arrive at least 1 hour prior your appointment in case there are traffic delays or documentation missing.

I went down to Mexico City when they reopened in March. Arrived at 10:00 and they opened up a little early (around 10:40) to allow us in. The staff was cordial and they defaulted to Spanish when they spoke to you. After entering and getting in line, the entire process took about 30-45 minutes. The staff was great and friendly. Even during this whole Covid thing, my renewed passport arrived at my local DHL office in under two weeks. I was very impressed with the service and it's obvious that the place is run very smoothly.

Had a friend try to get a VISA here and was denied. interviewer was very inhuman, like talking to a machine. The reason was not strong enough ties to Mexico and he refused to glance at any documentation proving strong ties. Makes me think they've already decided before you arrive and they only ask questions for appearance purposes like, "Thank you for your processing fees, next transaction... I mean person."

Possible scam? Can someone from the US embassy staff confirm whether the passport application form 'needs' a barcode in the top left? I used the Dept of state form and yet the lady managing the outside line said my form was wrong because it didn't have 'the code'. But it's ok, just go down the street to a building and someone will 'fix' it. With no other option, I ventured to a smaller building, not official. Someone used my 'bad' form to create the 'good' form. For 100 pesos and 45 minutes. Did I really need to do that? The passport office staff accepted the form, so I guess it's legit. But would my original form also have been fine? Anyway, leave 4 hours to complete the process, including paying DHL for delivery. People were nice, just it's a bit confusing which line is for what. Don't worry if your passport appointment time passes and you're still waiting outside. As long as your have an appointment that day, no-one seems to care.

Service is super fast, it takes a little long to find appointments online but once you find it is super fast ans easy. We renewed a passport and were in and out in about 1 hr, it takes longer at the DHL office which you have to go to pay for the shipping of your passport but other than that great experience.

The wait time was surprisingly fast, considering there were at least 100 people in line for passport renewal. The process was seamless, and everything in the building was clean and organized. If you are missing a document or 2, there are printing and photo services near the building.

Everything is very good, arrive at the appointment early an hour before in case you are missing a document to renew an American passport for your children or yourself. In the corner of the embassy there are people who help you fill out your documents at the top. An office charges you 100 pesos for the computer and that is what they ask you to go there so that what happened to me does not happen to you: my document did not have a code

The hours here are not accurate- they close at 3pm according to the security guard, not 5:30pm. This is making it nearly impossible for me to drop off my voting ballot to be mailed in a diplomatic pouch. Standard mail gets lost and FedEx costs $50USD just to vote. The website indicates that you can drop off your ballot envelope, but doesn’t state these very limited hours.

The service is very accessible, the guards and staff are very friendly, the process can be quick if you bring the required documents and follow the instructions inside the embassy, there are people who complain and do not accept some requirements such as turning off the cell phone completely and leave it safe, that institution gives from the moment you attend the first appointment. Yes there are many people but the service is very well organized

Heard good and bad things and were expecting the worst - we were in and out in 2 hours getting our baby’s US passport (9am appointment). We followed their checklist to a T and had no issues, just make sure you’re organized! We probably dealt with nearly 10 staff in total and all were very polite. The inside waiting area was a little cramped but all the young kids were playing together on the floor.

Good service, everyone in general very friendly. They do not allow any type of electronics, even if it is turned off (cell phone, headphones, batteries, OJO smart watches of any kind) the problem is that they do not tell you until you are about to enter and they take you back to the end of the line which is about an hour or so. In front there are parcel and storage businesses.

All the options I found here are related to visa procedures, I did not see opinions on American passport procedures, and when I went, the line for passports was the same size as the one for visas, so here are my opinions - Citizens or legal residents who are going to process or renew a passport can enter with a backpack (as long as they do not carry food or knives) and they can also enter with their cell phone turned off. Once inside, they will store their belongings and give them access. they will give a token - I read in other opinions that the guards had little tact, or that they were rude, the staff, although very dry, were not rude and the questions I had were answered - Inside the staff is very friendly, bring copies of all your documents, also your INE, passport, birth certificates, etc. - Everything in general is very fast, after your interview and paying the cost of the passport or its renewal, you pay for its shipping right there ($175 at this date) in DHL and you choose which office in the country you want to pick it up at

The guards outside are a bit jerks. People inside seem ok indifferent. Mexican-Americans are worse than real Americans and they don't know how to explain themselves in the way they need to. They have English and Spanish speaking ppl obviously. Some of their rules and procedures are absolutely absurd to some situations. You don't need U.S.A dont get a visa just go to Europe or canada is even better. They think they're very special and they're not really, they're full of themselves. Good luck you all.

Our experience getting our sons US Passport and Consular Report of A Birth Abroad was relatively quick! And all embassy staff/security were extremely friendly! One thing to note, that you cannot bring too many bags, especially larger size, unless such things are for your baby/child (such as toys, books, milk etc.) If you are traveling from another state like we did, and do have a lot of luggage/bags, there is a newspaper stand that can hold your belongings for a fee. Other items such as electronics and will be checked by security. Overall everything went really well, smooth, and quick once through security.
