After touring the former convent, be sure to hike the surrounding trails which lead to the ruins of several remote hermitages. Unique hiking experience.

If you are looking for a place to relax and forget all the noise and crowds from the city, then you need to visit Desierto de los leones. There is a lot of nature, Mexican food and you can do many activities like hiking, go to the monks museum or just chill in a good environment. I love this place.

The monetary was closed due to covid. But the grounds were amazing. There was alot to do and see. Miles and miles of trails, so be aware how far you wonder. There are plenty of restaurants that take credit card which is convenient. Be aware that there is little to no cell service there so plan ahead of you are getting a ride.

The convent itself is really nice, in the middle of the nature with beautiful gardens and tunnels to get through for 18 pesos. Then you can hike all around the area visiting the swan lake and all the national park forest; really recommendable to spend one day there!

What a great and beautiful escape from the city. If you like hiking, biking, mountain bike riding, eating, exploring, or chilling, this is the place tht has it all. Only one toll booth from the city and a small fee to enter.

The convento's construction is 300 years old. A great place to see. Lots of restaurants around, there's even one inside the building. You can enter the woods. Take the highway to Toluca, the other road is not very safe.

It's a very quiet place, people are respectful and access is easy, they keep the place clean. Come and visit this place and enjoy the silence, if you're a religious person you can pray. You can buy souvenirs and there are lots of places where to eat and chill. Thanks for reading!

Best place to have a picnic with friends and family. The weather is a little cold in the evening or morning but in the afternoon a sunny day will be more fun.

Fantastic remains of an old monastery with their old cells and chapels. A short story about fights of Emiliano Zapata around the convent during the Mexican Revolution and a restaurant on site. But the most amazing part are the woods al around.

There's many things to do, you can eat, hike, run, walk with your dog(s), bike or just chill in the nature. Whatever is most convenient for you. It's great place for weekend getaway.

High elevation so have a warm jacket available. You can't help but feel a reverence while exploring this vast convent. We had a very well prepared meal that I'd rate highly to any other restaurants reputation.

A simple, rustic and pleasant experience. A breath of fresh air away from the Mexico City crowds (mostly) and city landscape. The cool pine filled air and mild historic value is well worth the $2.30 USD fee to go up and enter the Convent.

Did not expect much but was really surprised. Lovely huge monastery, so many rooms to explore, beautifully kept gardens with a variety of flowers. There is a reataurant inside too. Very reasonably priced at 17 peso per person, child or adult. The parking across has a very uneven bumpy floor. It is supposed to be free but some attendants guide you and expect some tips. Plenty of eateries and little shops around.

I was amazed by how beautiful this place is. One of the best kept secrets of Mexico City as it is not well known. Really astonishing.

Such a lovely place. We came here without any expectations and the fact that its so close to the city yet with such a different landscape really makes this place magical. Kinda reminds me of walden pond in Mass.

First off, this is the cleanest park I've ever visited! And that includes the miles of hiking and running trails surrounding it! Cleanest! No trash anywhere!! After that, it's a very nice park. On the surface, it's name is silly. We call it the park of Two Lies! It's not in the desert and there aren't any Lions! LOL. The ex-convent is a nicely maintained historic building. The grounds are gardens are pretty as well. The only suggestion I have is to have an info booth manned with a couple of docents, or even better, have them floating around...

Great birds! Beautiful park. Park at the cobblestone lot in front of the convent for free and hike uphill heading south behind the parking lot. Arriving early, at least before 9am, is great to avoid the noisy church crowds and the unofficial parking attendants hoping for tips. The food is ok, but be ready to be unceasingly yelled at by 6 restuarant solicitors at once until you pick one. I'm personally extremely annoyed by restuarants like that so I'd bring my own lunch. Police patrol the trails on horseback, which is a nice service. Maybe this is a response to issues earlier this year. The parking lot can be very noisy with staff playing music or sometimes religious ceremonies over loudspeakers, but the trail becomes peaceful about 1 km up the trail. Red Warblers, Hooded Grosbeaks, Green striped brushfinch - this place is fantastic, and the birds are abundant practically in the parking lot so no need to put on heavy miles by starting from La Venta down the hill.
