In a very history rich Dominican Republic this location serves monumental value for their pre independence history, the details I’ll leave for one of the tours available.

It was here in 1847 that Francisco de Rosario Sanchez proclaimed Dominican independence and raised the flag. The landmark is on the 100 peso bill and is always guarded by armed soldiers. Worth the visit.

(Translated by Google) It is a beautiful place to walk either alone or accompanied. It is worth mentioning that this door has been visually modified and does not have that visual appeal of antiquity given by the brick blocks to the construction. (Original) Es un lugar hermoso para pasear ya sea solo o acompañado. Cabe mencionar que esta puerta a sido modificada visualmente ya no tiene ese atractivo visual de antigüedad que le daban los bloques de ladrillo a la construcción.

The first European town in the Americas was set here in SD, by the Ozama river where the first (same name) fortress was built. The fortress was enlarged shortly so several gates to the fortified city were built. Puerta del Conde is the western gate oriented inland, and was built at the beginning/end of the first commercial street Calle el Conde. Today it's a historic landmark and the gateway to the Independence park behind it.
