Plenty vegan and gluten-free options available in this superb dog friendly cafe situated just a stones throw away from the cathedral. Staff, and the owner in particular, are warm, welcoming, and just super friendly. It felt as though they had welcomed us into their cosy home to share their awesome faire with us. I can recommend the breakfast panini. The coffee walnut cake is also one of the best I've tried, as are the fluffy and light scones. A special note of thanks to the owner who gifted one of his spider plants to my daughter. Such a lovely thoughtful gesture. Thank you 👍 We'll be back next time we are in Durham.

This is by far the best coffee shop in England. it is family owned. Owners are so friendly and they make the B.E.S.T. scones - made fresh. I had a raisin scone. it was served with fresh butter and jam 😱 so delicious! I could have stayed and eat more. the coffee was really good (don't know what brand they use) it was well balanced and fresh. the coffee shop has a pleasant atmosphere, relaxing & inviting. it was clean and everybody was friendly. If you are in Durham UK, go visit them! olga, from Boston MA

The food was nice and the interior is cool, but the person who served us was quite rude and unfriendly. Not a fan of the ‘you can’t work here’ signs, think this deters regular customers in a university city and gives off the energy that their goal is to cash you out and kick you out. Will give it another chance though.

Busy little cafe serving hot drinks, cakes, sandwiches and soups. Not welcoming to people looking to work on laptops, and very much geared towards fast turnaround to tourists.

Very cosy environment, friendly staff. The food is great. We tried the open bagels. The blueberry scone is not to be missed. The owner is a lovely man who looks after the customers with attention. The coffee was good and we loved the dirty chai latte. We are lucky to have stumbled upon this place on our road trip.

Brilliant experience, they made space for us out of nowhere! Really nice food for adults and kids. Also very reasonably priced. Really friendly service, highly recommended!

What a great find. Cream Tea with Blueberry scones. Emily recommended lemon curd instead of jam. What an amazing combination! Thank you. Mark was welcoming and spent time explaining how he grew the avocado trees. Lovely to talk to and welcoming to all who visit.

Friendly and cosy atmosphere in this little coffee shop. Couldn't decide which scones to try as they all looked amazing! Would reccommend the simple scone with fruit jam and try a one of the cakes they have. Coffee was also really tasty. Plus it's dog friendly!

I highly recommend the blueberry and lemon scones! Excellent, handmade scones and jam, with proper clotted cream. The smoothies are delicious, but a bit expensive for how much you get. Lovely little cafe with friendly staff.

The cafe is like a nice hidden gem; cosily situated on the second floor over looking the street. The staff is so friendly, like being served by good friends :) We felt really comfy drinking our tea, enjoying breakfast, getting warmed up inside. Come in early before the crowd comes!

quirky 1st floor cafe near Castle and cathedral in Durham, up three short flights of stairs lovely bright interior, mixing different chairs, tables and lighting with plants and loads of natural light from the massive period windows, great service and lovely food with many gluten free options. Got really busy when we were in but all added to to homely feel

Lovely place with a good vibe and reasonable prices. Also incredible that it sponsors so many toilets through toilet twinning. Very friendly staff and would highly recommend if you’re visiting Durham.

lovely cafe within walking distance of the cathedral. Dog friendly. We came with our newborn son and baby changing facilities that are non-existent, and only one toilet - we didn't mind changing him in the restaurant and neither did anyone else. This isn't disabled friendly and the stairs were slippery (raining on the day). Food was very nice and came out quickly, within 5 minutes for four people. They did forget my order and this took another 5-6 minutes to prepare. This happened again later on when we asked for hot water for the tea too. The waiter was slightly loud, but it was quite busy at brunch so I could understand his loud voice. He did give our dog a nice water bowl without us needing to ask, which was a nice change. The avocado and salmon bagel was nice and they provided a generous amount of cheese with the scone too. Overall this is a good place for brunch, and would like to see some small changes to avoid slippages which may cause accidents on wetter days.

Nice and airy upstairs space, the fresh feeling enhanced by plants. Friendly staff, good coffee and excellent scones. Also, the breakfasts on other folks' tables look good.

Gorgeous cafe catering really well for gluten free. We had brunch, scrambled eggs with chorizo and avocado and my mum (who has coeliac disease) had a bacon and cheese sandwich. We both then had scones with jam and cream, mum said her GF scone was beautiful!

I love the relaxing and unpretentious atmosphere found each time I visit Cathedral. Popular with university students and tourists, it's a great place to rest up for an hour or two. Every corner of the upstairs area contains something of interest; from lush indoor plants to the wall decor, hanging lighting and curios dotted here and there. No two areas feel the same and you can never get bored of being here. Some examples of snacks we enjoyed were:- bagels with avocado, peppers and hummus, Scone with strawberry jam (optional clotted cream), Bacon sandwich. Pots of earl grey and English breakfast tea. Well worth a visit!

Stumbled across this cute little cafe late in the day, the terrace area and the entrance are charming and the staff I encountered were very friendly. The homemade lime & coconut cake was beautiful! And I can see why their hot chocolates are award winning!! I’ve found my new favourite cafe :)

This was my 2nd time at cafédral. The first time I went there, I ordered their iced mocha to-go which was very tasty with lots of chocolate! Today, I decided to finally try their infamous hot chocolate with a tuna melt panini. First of all, the panini came with a nice bed of salad with dressing, and coleslaw (a pleasant surprise). The hot chocolate was lovely with lots of marshmallows (although I expected a bit more chocolate but it was pleasant regardless). The service was great as when I arrived, I was welcomed by who I believe to be the owner. He was very nice and ensured I got a nice big table even though I was alone. I’ll definitely be returning!

A lovely lovely cafe. The food is great, and the staff are always kind. I love the cute setup with plants everywhere inside! Also worth noting that they’re dog friendly

Cafedral is a favorite of mine in Durham. The warm and inviting atmosphere make it an excellent spot in the winter to stop for a hot drink and some breakfast or lunch. You cannot really go wrong with the soup of the day, especially if it's bacon and lentil, though all the paninis are also outstanding, as are the bagels. It also has the bonus of being well-located near the town centre and cathedral, and provides an outstanding experience overall.

Service was very quick and food delicious. There are queues for a reason. Staff all very pleasant and helpful!

Came in right at open with a group of 12 hungry Floorball players. The team were incredibly welcoming and accommodating - moving the tables around so that we could all sit and eat together. Drinks: A variety of hot and cold drinks available - I opted for a large Cappuccino, which was very tasty. Food: We came in early, so had a choice of breakfast/brunch options alongside the rest of the food menu. - I ordered an Eggs Florentine, which was well cooked, rich, decadent and creamy. Staff: The staff, as mentioned above, were very warm and welcoming. They were attentive and saw that all of our café needs were met. If this is how they treat all of their customers, the crew should be very proud of themselves. Final thoughts: Thank you to the Cafédral team, I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a nice breakfast out in Durham. If I'm ever back in the city, I know at least one establishment that I will be returning too.

One of the top cafes in Durham, with the best hot chocolate, tea and scones. Great location next to the cathedral. Usually a queue, but it’s worth it!

👍👍 Great place to visit, made even better thanks to Pav who looked after us for the 2 hours we were there. I had the burger which was really good. I stuck with the red stripe to drink but the rest tried quite a few of the cocktails (I don't believe they had one they didn't like) . The place was spotles...
