Third time here and it is easily one of the best restaurants in the whole midlands. Alex is a genius in the kitchen, with inspiration from Japanese flavours and Uber modern cooking techniques and beautiful plates, the whole experience is worthy of the star, but beyond that, it’s a food experience that if it was in London, it would be easily £250 per head. So at £90 for 5 courses (which is easily 11-12 servings) I actually think it’s also fantastic value for some of the best food in the country.

Alex Bond has regenerate this old stables into a vibrant dining experience with outstanding service and excellent food with superb food and wine with well trained and knowledgeable staff. Alex Bond should be well proud of the fantastic staff that he has trained. Highly recommend. . Best experience in years

One of the two best fine-dining restaurants in Nottingham. The food is impeccable! The prices are so reasonable too.

Having eaten in Sat Bains and thoroughly enjoying it, my husband and I decided to try Alchemilla as the chef had previously trained there. However we were sorely disappointed with the food and if I'm honest felt like the experience was more of an ordeal than a pleasure. We opted for the 7 course taster menu with wine pairings and I thank God we had the wine pairings as it was the only pleasurable thing about the meal. Although the chef demonstrated good technique, the same could not be said for his ability to harmonise flavours. In that the dishes were presented well but in almost all cases were overpowered by saltiness or by a selection of ingredients that did not work well together. Of the 7 courses there was only one course that we actually liked- by the time the main course came our enthusiasm for the meal had completely evaporated. However the service was good and the sommelier's enthusiasm was delightful. When asked if we'd enjoyed the meal my husband's response was frank and told them the kitchen had not delivered,to which we got no response. What should have been a gourmet experience was more like a bush tucker trial and has honestly made me question what criteria Michelin use in assessing restaurants.

An amazing restaurant from every aspect. The friendly service from entering, drinks in the garden and in the restaurant. The experience is so worth a visit and we will definitely be visiting again! Amazing food in an amazing setting. Its lovely to see Alex on the pass when you enter and leave. The care from him and his staff to make your evening perfect is clear to see. Thank you!

Food was different but nice we had the 10 course taster menu... Where it all went wrong was for £640 for 4 you would expect the service to be second to none and it just wasn't also the drinks range was very very poor we've tried it 3 times there proberley won't be a fourth... Sorry

My first impression of Alchemilla was astonishing. I didn't expect the brick walls and atmosphere, it feels like a historic place, very green and private. The fine dining was as expected, great quality food and a great service. What really made this place unique was the artistic and culinary touch on every dish. I could feel the passion for smoke, fire and Japanese ingredients on each of the dishes. Elevating all the ingredients, for example a dish was made out of only mushrooms, and it was stunning! We had the pescatarian menu, and I ordered the optional Chawanmushi, and for me you can't miss out on the main dinner with Turbot, the Chawanmushi, the Mushroom dish and the Koji ice cream. Parking could be difficult, and I would suggest to park on NG7 3GD

It was a fantastic meal in wonderful surroundings. Each of the 10 courses of the taster menu came with a different and unique flavour with its own focus on what the star of that dish was. The service was great, striking the balance perfectly between professionalism and warmth whilst still not being afraid to give a little of their own personalities. Our visit was all that we hoped it would be. We had a fantastic few hours here and couldn't recommend Alchemilla enough. Thank you to all who made our night one to remember.

There are only a few places in my life that has completely taken me by surprise, and Alchemilla is one of the them. From the warm and welcoming staff, the amazing menu, to the wines, I can't thank them enough for putting together a memory that my husband and I will have for years. If you can afford it, do it. The restaurant is clean and the service is above and beyond, each willing to tell history and stories. Even asked the staff to sign my copy of the menu. Absolutely an amazing experience. Hopefully one day we can return!

Had been waiting to make a trip to Alchemilla for so long and to be made aware of their Michelin Star only added fuel to the fire that was our eagerness to visit the restaurant. Spoiler - it did not disappoint! I don't think this may be the platform for me to go through every individual dish my girlfriend and I experienced (I'll let the photos speak for themselves). All I can tell any reader of this review is, if you decide to treat yourself to a meal at Alchemilla - you are in very safe hands. Gone are any pre-conceptions that "fine-dining" has to be an overly formal and pretentious. Our staff were attentive whilst not invasive, the wine expert was extremely knowledge and super passionate. It felt as if we were having friends serve us our food! The menu itself was an expert portfolio of how simply tasty and technically impressive food can actually be. You've set the bar very high and we will find it very difficult not making an appearance at the restaurant a regular occurrence! Thank you for an amazing food experience.

I'm in my 50s, am a lover of good food, and have eaten plenty of excellent meals. We were blown away by our meal at Alchemilla last night - one of the best of our lives: presentation, taste, texture, flavour, staff, service, wine, ambience, surroundings all exceptional.

Great place wish I found out about this place sooner! It's in what I believe is an old wine cellar converted into a restaurant. It has an open style kitchen so you can see where all the magic happens. The food is fantastic with great combos of flavours and attention to detail. Went with a vegetarian friend and she enjoyed it very much. Sometimes you get very generic vegetarian dishes but here they were well thought out and interesting. My highlight was the ice-cream dessert; chocolate, salted liquorice and beetroot. Don't usually like liquorice but this was fantastic and added texture as well. The beetroot sobert blew my mind, it was very complex with a savoury feeling but still clearly in dessert. Had a great evening here and I hope to bring my family to try it sometime! Update: second visit to Alchemilla, after they received their Michillin star. Their food is still excellent and the chef hasn't relaxed (which I know some do after recieving their star). I had the wine pairings with my food this time and it was a whole new dimension! Made already a great dinner, into an unforgettable experience. The wait staff was enthusiastic and friendly.

Only a few days after reopening the standard of food and service was incredible. Front of house initial welcome was top notch and very welcoming. All of the dishes were created to surprise and delight and they succeeded. Staff were attentive and well organised. A meal here is a treat and one I would go back for again.

Went for 5 course lunch menu and enjoyed 2, underwhelmed by 1 and found 2 difficult to eat. Service was good and is reason for 3 stars not 2. Open kitchen means my clothes smelt by the end. Real shame, really wanted to like it.

We went to Alchemilla not long after it opened and it was great. We went again a year later and it was better. On our third visit, and our first since it was awarded a Michelin star, it was absolutely phenomenal. So many great dishes it was impossible to pick a favourite. From the opening with crab and brown butter foam to the main of pigeon or lamb to the creme brulee with balsamic and beetroot sorbets, everything was just spot on. Service was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly and our whole evening was a delight from start to finish. Alchemilla is fully deserving of all the accolades it gets and we're lucky to have such a fantastic restaurant in Nottingham city centre.

It's not everyday you celebrate your ten year anniversary, so wanting to do something special, I booked the award winning Alchemilla restaurant in Nottingham. Due to an URGENT last minute change, they were able to kindly move our booking by a few days, despite being against their policy. We arrived early for roof top drinks, which is like a little slice of privacy on a usually busy street. We went for 7 courses as we'd done 10 previously, and it's simply food on another level. Each bite is carefully created to give you an amazing mix of flavours, textures and is quite simply, an experience. For what can only be described as perfection, visit Alchemilla in Nottingham.

Really well thought out menu. We had the 10 course with accompanying wines. I wouldn't do the 10 course again as it was just too much, especially with the extras you also have. The welcome is always pleasant and the table service attentive, engaging yet subtle. The open kitchen gives a welcome view of the comings and goings and gives a sense of atmosphere when you first walk in.

We enjoyed a 7 course taster menu with wine pairings. One word would be spectacular. An intimate environment, attentive service and the food was interesting and perfectly executed. It challenges your pallet in a positive way. As said earlier, spectacular.

Amazing food. Great service. Had the 7 course tasting menu, with lots of extras, was eating for about 3.5 hrs, and it was all delicious. I had the standard menu and my dining partner had the vegan, which was jus as impressive, no vegan after-thought menu, a proper, delicious selection of food that stands up alongside the standard menu. Canapés: Chalk stream trout was delicate, light and delicious. The pickled celeriac was a surprise, a good one! The hash brown was fantastic. Smoked scallop soup was incredible, I'd happily have a whole bowl full of it! The bread was really good with the cultured butters... And then came the actual menu... The squash course was excellent. Then came a delicious scallop, they know how to cook scallops here! The mushroom/liver dish was amazing, so much umami. The bream was also delicious, although both my partner and I felt that this course should have come before the mushroom course. I didn't have the optional beef course... The 'main course' of venison was incredible, beautifully cooked. The optional cheese selection looked good, I saw other diners enjoying them but didn't partake myself... The dessert courses were a bit odd for me... My dining partner loved them though... The Koji sake Lees was nice, I found the sauce a bit overwhelming at first, the caramelised corn was amazing. The chocolate dessert was a bit 'mushroomy' to begin with, but grew on me by the last mouthful. We didn't take the wine pairings, had a bottle of malbec instead. A great experience, if you can afford a visit, I would recommend!

Started very strong. Incredible food. But then slowly the items became less punchy. Tried too hard and lacked what the formers held. But the first few dishes, including the venison were phenomenal. Didn’t like the seaweed dishes overly. The lobster was incredible. Will edit this review shortly. Amazing setting. Great staff. Amazing host. Waiting was ever slightly slow. Great alcohol menu. Ten course is a must. I would recommend wine pairing but would probably be too much for ten courses. Overall very expensive for a one star. Almost the same price as a london 2 or 3. Wouldn’t compare exactly to a one star further north.

I was taken here for a surprise birthday treat and I was certainly surprised! Every dish was a taste explosion, taking everyday ingredients and turning them into something exquisite. The mushroom course and the fermented mushrooms desert being my absolute favourite! I don’t know how they did it. Thank you to Alex and the team for sharing their talents. Highly recommend

The food was very original and absolutely delicious (especially scallop). The service at his highest level. You will be served, I think, by 6-8 different members of the team that will explain you the course through smallest particularities. Definitely would recommend to all food enthusiasts.

Dining here was a stunning experience from start to finish. Uniquely characterful venue that has been lovingly converted (ask to see their photo book) and now sports an open kitchen and series of seating areas under the old brick arches, plenty of natural light from above, and a tranquil roof garden for drinks. Staff were incredibly friendly yet professional throughout. Alchemilla offer a few different sizes of tasting menu; we went for the full 10 plus cheese plus pairings, which took a pretty magical four hours or so to tackle. Every course was different, creative and deliciously memorable. Well worth it, and would go back again in a heartbeat.

Everything was incredible, nothing disappointed. The service, the food and the knowledge with every item of food and wine was fascinating. This was a belated birthday present for myself but my partner and I had the best afternoon and will 100% be back! The aesthetics inside are beautiful and perfectly fit the theme of the food. Couldn’t recommend enough for the most amazing culinary experience.

  • 5/5 Alex J. 2 years ago on Google
A great dining experience. The tasting menu offers a series of great dishes that are creative, experimental and delicious. They seem to focus a lot on texture and mouth feel. The wine pairings are also spot on, and add a real transformation to each dish. Though prepare to be bamboozled, with what appears to be a culinary version of the generation game. Overall, it can get quite expensive, so it probably should have 4 pound signs rather than 3. I would recommend it for special occasions or for genuine dining art.

I cannot praise the staff enough from entering to leaving. We were greeted with politeness and friendliness. We had wine pairings with our meal and Rebecca was so knowledgeable and informative about the wines it truly enhanced the meal experience. We opted for 7 courses and were full but not unpleasantly so. Each course was a complete taste and texture sensation. I cant say we all enjoyed everything because we all have different tastes but we did appreciate the detail in everything we ate. A wonderful dining experience in a fantastic setting, served by people who have a knowledge that is beyond what you can read and a passion for the place they worked and the people they worked with.

Excellent fine dining with set menus only. The highest quality seasonal ingredients served imaginatively. Optional wine pairing and cheese menu. Portion sizes are appropriate, the food is rich and thoughtfully prepared. There is no way you could leave feeling hungry or disappointed.

Exceptional food. We had the 10 course vegetarian menu which was a really good experience food wise. The seating we had was a disaster and ruined our experience. Extremely noisy and chaotic. We just finished our meal and it feels like we had a fine dining meal inside a dishwasher. Commented on this ealy on during our meal, but staff was unable to reaccomodate. However, very pleasant staff and service. Made the trip to Nottingham because of this restaurant, so very disappointed and sad based on that. If you live in the area; ask for take-away as the food is good, but the over-all experience is disappointing.

A fabulous culinary treat. Choice of 7 or 10 course tasting menu which was very well thought through. Strong emphasise on reducing waste but not losing the focus on flavour. Staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Great drinks menu with some really unique options and it was brilliant to have a range of interesting and unique non-alcoholic options too. A fabulously relaxed evening. Definitely worth a visit.

Exquisite flavours, both with the meat and vegetarian dishes (3 meat eaters and 1 veggie). We had the 7 course tasting menu, with at least 5 “bites”/canapés. The wine pairings were excellent, and really added to the flavours and experience. A host of knowledgeable staff and sommeliers who offered service. It’s not cheap but it is absolutely worth it.

What a great experience. We had the taster menu with wine selection just great, with my favourite being the deserts even though I don't have a sweet tooth. Just a great experience. If I can afford it I will be back! The staff are also great and very nice.

Simply amazing, make sure you try this place if you're in Nottingham. The intensity of flavours on offer is incredible. Excellent services, friendly and easy to talk to. The main event, the food, is unlike anything you will experience else where. Likely to change, but on my visit the food was very autumnal with BBQ smokiness that was so comforting. Cocktails were great too, highly recommended.

I've been to Alchemilla 3 times since it opened and I have to say the most recent visit was an absolute revelation, the last 2 times (a while ago) where good but not mind blowing but we visited in August 2020 and I have to say the restaurant has really grown into itself, there is a clear identity of balancing plant based produce with using meat at the right time and a BBQ inspired cooking method along side locally sourced ingredients. We went for lunch and stayed about 5 hours sampled a few drinks and chatted with the staff who where all brilliant, very knowledgeable and really engaging. This place is now a true Michelin starred experience and is a real boost to the city to have this restaurant in Nottingham, cant wait to see where Alex and his team take this place next.

We ate at a very fine Michelin restaurant exactly two weeks to the day prior and found the service to be intrusive and we’re almost bullied because they simply could not understand why I didn’t drink wine in fact the sommelier came back twice for further explanation! It’s also nice to have control over how much table water you want in your glass. Well done front of house

  • 5/5 Nancy F. 3 years ago on Google
The courses were paced well and the explanations were clear. Sat Baines once told us “it’s basically a jacket potato” and that still makes us chuckle four years on. Flavors differed, textures changed and the courses were balanced. The desert courses were very good and one came with an explanation about the locally sourced chocolate.

  • 5/5 Duncan M. 4 years ago on Google
A nice surprise of flavours and excellent service. But is it as good as Sat Bains, only you can answer that question. For me I know my answer.

An absolute joy from start to finish, the chefs, waitresses, bar staff and sommelier are friendly, knowledgeable and professional but importantly have character and passion. The 10 courses with wine pairing was one of the most impressive meals I've had and I wouldn't hesitate to return and recommend Alchemilla to anyone. It's expensive but considering the service, food and atmosphere it's certainly justified.

  • 3/5 V D. 3 years ago on Google
Experience way below fellow European starred restaurants. Waited half an hour for our table, staff running around and rushing with plates description, so many tables that it looked (and sounded) like a normal restaurant, killing the atmosphere. Food (only 6 courses available) itself was excellent and well presented, as expected. Although, we found the constant mixing of sweet and salty too forced and exaggerated sometimes. We were served the three desserts in 5 minutes because they had to close (rushed to eat the frozen yogurt, ruining our digestion), and they gave us a takeaway coffee in a bag. Appreciated the use of local sources. Staff was friendly (and we met them all, as they don't assign one to a table, first come first serve, which we didn't find elegant). Good respect of anti-Covid rules. On street car park on a busy road. We understand it's not their fault if they have to close at 10pm, but if they can't manage it, they should have fewer customers (which would also improve the atmosphere, also because the underground echo was noisy).

Good but not excellent. £80 pp for 7 course taster menu was about right. We had the wine pairings too for an extra £60pp with some unique and unusual wines. Some worked for me and some didn't. Worth trying but not quite Sat Bains level for me.

Wine pairing is excellent! Food is creative and average good but most of the dishes have a mix of so many ingredients. I would like to mention the raw venison plate, it comes with chimichurri, a set of very flavorous herbs and barbecue sauce on top. Too many flavours completely covering the taste of the venison.

Celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday here back in January and have not stopped thinking about it since! We came with family to celebrate the graduation of my youngest daughter. Food was first class and the staff excellent. We had the 10 course taster. Think next time probably go for the 7 course. Theres so much food and tastes bombarding your palate and I don't think I probably did it justice. Food was excellent and the timing for each course was spot on. Love the atmosphere. Certainly a place for that extra special occasion. Thank you

Really lovely place, the decor is industrial chic and the ambience relaxed and informal, which we liked. We had a 7 course taster dinner without the wine flight (school night!) and it was delicious. As with most taster menu's, there were one or two dishes that we didn't like but all the rest were lovely. The appetisers in particular were really delicious. Service-wise, would have been better to have the same server rather than cycle through almost all the staff during our visit but they were all nice and informed so not a big deal. We'd visit again

Nothing but excellent service. The staff were attentive and informed on the food, the wine delicious and the food itself exceptional. My first time in this calibre of restaurant and I was not disappointed. Opted that my table would try the 10 course meal (thought we would get tiny portions), by course 5 we were all reaching full bellies. Nice relaxed atmosphere, interesting and unpretentious venue. We were there 4 hrs and my friends were facinated by the moss wall. Starting to save for my next visit.

We attended for our anniversary and my wife's 30th. Very welcoming and friendly staff. We had different dietary requirements and they created custom menus for us both, which was a nice touch. The ordering confused us intially, as we were asked to order from the "same menu", but actually they meant we should order the same number of courses, not the same food!

👍👍 Absolutely amazing! I went to have lunch on my graduation day with my friends. Food was very flavourful and cocktails were nice. Special dietary options are available and you always get 2-4-1 cocktails. Service was really friendly and approachable. Ambience and music is just cherry on top.
