The Cattedrale di S. Maria Assunta di Como is not far from the lake and in the the main square. This cathedral was started in the 1400's and was not completed until the 1600's. They were persistent and it sure paid off as this Cathedral is magnificent, breath taking and awe inspiring. It is so huge it is impossible to capture the entire structure, marble, tapestries, multiple altars, stained glass windows, tombs, statutes and more. I unfortunately didn’t have much time to spend here but was in awe with what I did get to see. If I am ever in the Lake Como area again I would definitely come see it again and spend more time here.

It's an amazing marvel of engineering, steeped in rich history. It's amazing what they achieved. Paintings, stained glass, architectures, it's all wonderful. You always get great views of Milan from the roof too. It is always worth a visit, especially as renovation work is continuing. Grab tickets online and skip the queues. Book an hour in advance and check out the surrounding shops before you go in.

This is a beautiful church with a long history. The interior is free to enter but donations are welcome. More than most churches, you'll find a lot of panels and historical pieces showcasing the church. The context helps a lot and makes it a better learning experience. The outside is wonderfully detailed, but the best part is that you can interact with parts of the old foundation! A side of the church that was excavated is open for viewing, seating, and appreciation. It's a great stop on your way around town.

Free entrance! Also.. Look up! That ceiling definitely humbles you. Walking around the side of the back also allowed for a different and less crowded view. Central to Como town, this place seems to be a common rendezvous area for people to meet — locals and trousers alike. So, find a place near by to sit and have an afternoon apero and just enjoy the people-watching while you write your postcards! Do a quick wiki of this place before going. There’s some cool architectural snippets to be had. Good historical landmark!

Beautiful church in the heart of Como. The facade looks rather simple, but it is still magnificent. The interiors are well made, even if not too crowded. There is even a part of the church dedicated for people who want to think and pray. Definitely a nice stop if you are in town.

Stunning building made under different centuries - has several attachments. Really impressive - must see in Como. So popular they had one-way walking streets around the cathedral. I would have loved to visit the inside but I believe it’s closed due to covid. Keep in mind that you cannot park anywhere close - enjoy the old town stroll instead.

Huge building with tens of sculptures. It is a great place to take instagram photos. You can have a sit and sip your just front of this cathedral that I strongly recommend you. Unfortunately, no idea about the history of it, but still the sculptures are detailed in advance. You should check there out!

Beautiful Catholic church with great interiors. The place had both gothic and renaissance interiors and there’s a story behind this. Go in and read about the architecture of the place and find out more about this piece of work that took hundreds of years to complete. This is free entry as well but they do ask for donations if you wish to support the church.

One of the most amazing ceilings I can recall seeing in any cathedral anywhere (and we've seen a lot), worth it for that alone. Otherwise pretty unremarkable but for some contemporary stained glass. There's no compulsory charge for entry, donation only.

Beautiful cathedral that speaks to the commitment of the local people to this ambitious undertaking. It is very accessible, near the lake and in the center of town. Definitely worth a stop.

Beautiful Cathedral in the center of Como just next to the place. Within the Cathedral, there are multiple timeline that explains the history of the Cathedral. If you plan to « quickly » visit the Cathedral, I would recommend 10 to 15 minutes. If you plan to read the different fact about the Cathedral, I would definitely add 15 minutes For those who come to Como via the boat, it’s relatively near the boat gates. Last but not least, there are not a lot of tourists that enter the Cathedral

Astonishing gathering of artworks in a remarkable building. As usual the cathedral was built and modified along several centuries, so that it features different art and architecture styles. Don’t miss to look for the frog on the north-side frog door. Information is provided inside the church. Free entrance.

Beautiful cathedral in Como, in a good location. My husband and I ate at the restaurant in front of it, at evening, and we really enjoyed the tranquility of the place and the view.

Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as Duomo di Como, is a stunning work of architecture that dates back to the 14th century. The cathedral is filled with beautiful artwork and intricate designs that will leave you amazed. Its rooftop provides incredible views of Lake Como and the surrounding city. The cathedral's rich history and religious significance make it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Como. The peaceful atmosphere inside the cathedral is very calming, and one should experience it.

Wow 🤩 OMG!! The church is really so beautiful and unique. Amaze with the efforts of the people who built the church. I had never visited a church, which is so old.

Duomo Square is the heart of old Como and is located next to the Cathedral of Saint Maria Assunta, built at the end of the 14th century in the Gothic style. Adjacent to the Duomo on the left is the old town hall - the Broletto.

Great building. Such a shame that the tourist path is made into a weird Disney like attraction.

Its a cathedral with a long history that you can actual discover through the boards inside it that contain the history in chronological order. When you go inside there is a 1€ donation so make sure you have coins and not only a card or paper Money. Sit and enjoy the magnificent art that the cathedral contains. You can also pray inside if you want to in spaces that pictures arent allowed. Have fun!
