Basílica Santuario del Señor de Monserrate located in Bogota is simply amazing. You have to make it here and make sure you provide enough time to see and enjoy everything. Incredible views, shopping & eating while you spend your time taking in the beauty all around you. We took the tram up and this will afford you with astounding views. Bring a light jacket in case because it can get chilly up there. This is such a treasure to behold and you should definitely make it a point to visit.

Amazing view of the city of bogota from this sanctuary!! Can take the train up or a ferry up or a trek on feet up here. Lots of great spots to take photos and show your instagram worthy poses. On a clear day, you can see miles away in every direction. The sanctuary itself is pretty too so don't forget to take a pic with the sanctuary as well!

Be careful the trail is closed on Tuesday for maintenance. We bought tickets the funicular ride and arrived up there the church was on renovation or cleaning, so we couldn’t visit. The view for up there impressive.

The view is amazing! There's not much to do up here but a ton of selfies, an overpriced restaurant, and payed admission to see the church. The line to get on the funicular or train is looong so it does help when you're at least 2 people because one does the line to pay and the other moves forward in line to get on which ever mean of transportation you choose. Hiking 🚶‍♀️ on the area is nice, really steep so take it easy don't over do it.

My spouse and I walked up. Took 1:30. We started at 8:30 on a Sunday. That's when many families and couple make the trek. There are several masses at the church at the top. That draws a ton of people. Any other day there shouldn't be bottlenecks but we had some on the hike. The views of the city and countryside are spectacular. There are numerous vendors along the way. What an amazing experience start to finish. And yes it was totally safe.

This is one of the places that you can get a gorgeous view of Bogota. Great authentic Colombian restaurants with a colorful local market.

Beautiful place to connect not only with the nature but also spiritually. Is one of the most beautiful places to have an amazing panoramic view from the city. There is also a lot of shops and you can always ask in the different ones to find out which one gives you the best price for the same product in case you want to take with you some local souvenirs

Definitely a must visit while in Bogota. We headed here over the weekend and it was a long queue without a purchased ticket in advance. So definitely do yourself a favour and get one before you arrive or even while you are queueing... Once up on the mountain with the help of the cable car we strolled around the top quite quickly before heading back down from the mountain by foot. It took us roughly one hour to "climb" down all the steps. Keep in mind to wear proper shoes since it was a bit slippery after the rain. Overall, worth going and enjoying a day.

Go on a Monday, we waited one minute to get cable car. Beautifully maintained church on mountain with beautiful views of Bogota. Bring warm clothes and rain gear. Weather changes rapidly here. Also, you might get some altitude sickness if you are not used to the thin air of bogota. Had a great time taking photos even though it was cold and rainy. Definitely must do in Bogota. Skip all the vendors selling items double the price available in Bogota.

I do think this is a must see in Bogota, but avoid the mistake we made and do not go.on a Sunday. It is so so busy.... The queue to get up on the Funicular is about 45 minutes long, and it seemed to get even busier as we waited. Once on top, the crowds were so packed that it was difficult to even get a decent vantage point to see the views (which are stunning, and would ha v been great to spend time admiring) The Road of the Cross and the Sanctuary look like an amazing place for contemplation and reflection (no matter ones faith views) , but with the crowds a air of sacriligiousness was completely lacking. People are drinking beers and shouting in the crowds while the service is going on inside. The states of Jesus, reflecting on the 12 stations of the cross, are basically new Instagram Selfie spots, with lots of pictures for a quick like and no recognition of anything eternal. This profane air does spoil the occasion... Choose another day even if you just want to see the views

Its fun but it needs renovations urgently. Long waiting line, teleferico can be upgraded for more People. Houses are dated, I thing it haven't changed in 30 years. More bathrooms are needed as well. Make it more tourist friendly.

A must visit when in Bogota! Cable car and Funicular are both options just check the times on their website.

I’m starting to think Bogota pays its people for reviews. It’s really just a view of the city up here. The church isn’t spectacularly built and the shops are mass produced tourist souvenirs.

Very unique place . Be ready to walk long way to the hill. View amazing and history too.

Worth visiting. A nice experience going up to see the place. Beautiful church. A neo gothic church with a more modern extension from the back. Has a gallery and souvenir shop one level down. Beautiful garden and landscaping. A bit foggy when we visited.

It was the nicest part of our Bogota trip. We took a cable car to the top of the mountain that had spectacular views of Bogota, visited the church and had lunch at a restaurant .

If you find yourself in Bogota, visiting the Basilica is a must. The view is stunning, and the church reflects the deep devotion and faith of the Colombian people. The locals are incredibly friendly and eager to share more about the history of this beautiful site.

Amazing place for a view of the city. The round trip in the telesferico or funicular was 3 minutes long and cost 27.000 COP about $7 dollars. You also have the choice to walk.

These views of the city and the scenery is breathtaking. We ate at the French restaurant Casa San Isidro with a great view of Bogotá and the food was absolutely delish!

Views were breath taking... literally given the height of 3,200m above sea level so the air was a bit thin for anyone with a breathing or heart condition. Well worth a visit though. We went up in the cable cars (telerifico) and came down in the train (funicular) The queuing system seemed a bit confusing to gain entry. You had to que to get your tickets and then que to gain entry with your tickets, but the guards seemed to encourage you to have your party que for entry while one of you got your tickets. You can then join the rest of your party with the tickets. Take some ID as you may be able to get discounts depending on age etc.

Excellent tourist site in Bogotá. You can choose to walk up a steep 2-mile path, or, as I recommend, use two means of transport (funicular or cable car) the latter costs approximately 4 dollars. Once at the top of Monserrate, you can take the opportunity to have a complete view of the city, there is a flea market at the top, and it is possible to have a typical meal. It is recommended to go early (between 7 and 10 am) and it is not recommended to go later than 12 noon, the sector can be unsafe

500 mts of stairs to one of the most delightful sights of Bogota. Pro tip: if you go walking, remember that you go from 2600 mts above the sea level up to 3100. Worth it all the way.

Nice place to visit by way of the cable car. It had a restaurant. I recommend trying the patacones. I only had a few hours to explore during a layover so I was happy to choose Monserrate

  • 5/5 Sayan S. 4 years ago on Google
Awesome setting in top of a hill which is approximately 3200m above sea level and gives a wonderful vista of the city on a given sunny day. Its family friendly and you can enjoy the joyride in a funicular of the ropeway to and from the mountain.

Nice place to visit for fantastic views over Bogota! Went with funicular and it’s stunning views and very steep hill to go up. It can take a while as they only open 1 ticket vending shop but the funicular takes a while too - so you’re waiting anyway. Nice walks on top of the hill. Steep walk but has ramp too. Lots of stalls vending all kind of souvenirs & food. Nice 1/2 day trip if weather is up to it😉😂😂

Whether you are spiritual or not, this is one of the worlds wonders. You can go up and spend a couple of hours observing the vast sprawling landscape of Bogota. It's hard to image or describe the feeling in a review. I don't recommend going on Sundays. There is food, coffee and alcohol served on the mountain top. I always make a point of going up when I visit the city. If you can afford to, definitely go.

  • 4/5 Jo B. 1 year ago on Google
Is was a decent place to visit. Must go at least once. The view is beautiful. To get up there, there is a long wait time. Would recommend to go early morning to avoid the major lines. Added a panoramic view to get an idea of how much Bogota city you see. Also the church these is know to grant miricals.

After a long wait of about a hour, we finally arrived to the top of Monserrate Santuary, it was full of people, many ate church and many sitting outside listening to he mass through load speakers scattered around the stairs going put to the sanctuary. Going up further, you find a small market of local art, however this time it was fully packed, for which we decided but to return, not purchasing and item.

The best view of Bogotá! Easy to get to and not expensive! Went for sunset, so the only option was the teleférico, which cost 23.500 pesos for a return trip.

I forgot to review but this place is beautiful, views only seen from the top are mind bending. All employees are very nice even for English speaking American white men 😁. Block out a few hours because I didn't want to leave also very safe environment.Enjoy

If you come to Bogota, you have to go to the top of monserrate on the tram!! And the casa San Isidro is the place to eat, but dress formally, but no tennis shoes, no jeans or T-shirt,

  • 5/5 Winston C. 1 year ago on Google
Go on a clear blue sky day. Bring a jacket. It’s colder in Monserrate. Take the train up and cable car down. Santa Clara is a nice cafe. Skip all the restaurants. They are not worth it. There are many souvenir shops but never pay what they ask because they overcharge tourists. Always negotiate. And always in Colombian Pesos never in USD. You end up losing more money with USD and they play tricks after you negotiate a price where they switch to USD instead of pesos. Make sure it’s always in pesos!
