A really great museum and fantastic way to spend an hour or two in Lyon. The first few floors are props, costumes and other items from major films. These are all pretty interesting, but the highlight is in the top floor. A series of absolutely incredible miniature scenes painstakingly created with astounding details. I could look at them for ages, marvelling at the skill. Never seen anything like it. My photos here are all models, no more than 2 feet across.

Definitely a larger focus on older movies in this museum which is only natural. I’d say you need to be 25 or older to understand everything but it’s easy to appreciate for movie fans. Lots of cool props, the sets are rather niche but cool as are the miniature sets.

Visited this place a little bit before closing and I had to fight myself to believe that it was miniature. The first floor is major film props like Harry Potter, but the top floor is the main standout, A collection of incredibly detailed miniature scenes that were meticulously built. You could be amazed at the skill for a very long time, next to nothing you've ever seen. All of the images of the sets are pressed to the window, no more than 15 cm.

This museum was so incredibly amazing, we loved it! So many great movie props, costumes and prosthetics from the actual movie productions - what a collection! I was especially blown away by the miniatures collection on the top floor. I could have spent all day looking at each scene; the talent of the artist who constructs them is otherworldly. Definitely check this one out!

This is one of my favorite museums in France and is a great museum for a movie fan. You could spend a lot of time there without being bored. There are a lot of nice props, costumes, and film technologies, etc that are amazing. My favorite part of this museum is the miniature part. The miniatures are so incredible, and painstakingly created. I can visit and spend ages looking at all of them, and still not be bored at all. Dan Ohlmann and other artists have done a wonderful job, and I would like to thank them for creating such an amazing museum like this. I highly recommend visiting this museum when you are visiting Lyon.

It's rare that you go to a museum that's truly different and spectacular at the same time, but this is exactly what this is. You start with visiting various parts of the set of the movie Perfume. Then there are a few floors containing various items used in many popular movies. You finish at the top floor containing lots of absolutely stunning miniatures used in films. Overall a brilliant experience and I'd say this is a must for any movie fans visiting Lyon.

It is a special museum dedicated to films and miniatures. I was not expected to be surprised but this museum is a journey to the world of movies. There is no need for reservation if you are less than 5 people and pets are welcome too!

Fantastic! Set in an amazing multi story building. Lots of neat movie props and history as well. Information signage is English too. The miniatures on the top floors are lifelike and excellent in the recreation. Well worth the cost of admission and set inside the old town so lots of great stuff to see nearby too. Highly recommend!

Came here over 7 years ago and I returned today. Such an endearing place, a Lyon must and, if you love films/design, you will enjoy it so much. My only comment is that it lacks accessibility; the elevator was not working and the exhibitions are inaccessible unless you go up and down some slipper stairs over and over again. Love place!!

I expected this to be a “one hour” museum for the 15 Euro entry price… it is not! We were there for over 2 hours and we were rushing towards the end as it was closing Really impressed! 9 different sections spread across multiple floors. Lots of movie props fro lots of different films. The first few rooms were dedicated to the “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” which we hadn’t seen, the sets are as impressive none the less. The miniature dioramas on the top floors are exceptionally well made, we recognised some from our tour of Lyon.

From the outside, the museum looks very small. This place has nine floors, stacked in a beautiful building in Lyon's old town. The miniature exhibits are out of this world. They are meticulously designed and illustrated with lighting. The cinema part of the museum is also fun. Do not miss this place if you are in Lyon.

Housed in a stunningly beautiful building in the old city of Lyon, this little gem of a museum was a very pleasant surprise! The rooms are situated on different floors, and as climb up the old stone stairs you are regaled with memorabilia from some of the most famous and successful films in the history of cinema. They have costumes, props, miniatures, all original pieces directly from the various sets. Please be advised that some rooms are not suitable for children, however they are clearly marked and easy to avoid. If you are a cinema lover, this is an experience you don't want to miss! The full price ticket is 12.50€, and believe me, it will be money well spent.

4 floors. 9 rooms. More than 500 items from Hollywood film studios and other studios from the world! Incredible experience. I literally saw decorations and costumes from original Star Wars, Back to the future, Batman, Spider-Man (all movies that were made before the digital era) - all these amazing things! These emotions and feelings have to be experienced. Thanks to Dan Ohlmann for collecting it!

A great and unexpected gem in an unlikely location in the old part of Lyon. It is here principally due to the founder locating in the city after a career in interior and set design and special effects. The museum holds the work of many others artists and technicians from a wide range of French and Hollywood films. There are many genuine props and costumes from these films all clearly explained especially the more technical special effects pieces. A short documentary explains just one sequence in Jurassic Park and the team needed to realise it. Some have actual footage from the film or stills of the piece as you see it in the film. There are full size costumes and props plus scale models but the creator is now a miniature model maker and the final 2 galleries (out of 9)are devoted to this impressively detailed art form.

We're not sure who enjoyed this place more, my husband and I, or our 10 year old daughter. We're a movie loving family who stumbled upon the Musée Cinéma et Miniature during a recent trip to Lyon and it blew us all away. What a gem! We especially loved the 80s memorabilia: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, Edward Scissorhands, Gremlins, etc. Our daughter had seen all of these movies, so she was able to appreciate the items as much as us. We really enjoyed our few hours of geeking out here. It was also a nice surprise to run into the owner, Julien Dumont, and have a nice chat about the museum and the film industry -- we used to work in the film industry in Vancouver and a few of the movies we worked on were even represented here! Super cool place and not to be missed by movie lovers.

At first I wasn’t sure but it was so worth it. If you like movies it is a must! Each floor just gets better. The top floor with all the miniatures blew me away - so much detail, so incredible. This is pure art. Try taking a picture and you won’t be able to tell that it was just a miniature…

We almost didn't go to this museum, but it was recommeded by the walking tour guide so we checked it out, and quite glad that we did. I would give it a 5 star but the layout of some of the exhibits made it very difficult to enjoy as much... the miniatures area mostly stands out because I felt like I had to wait 15 minutes to see each space because the layout made it to where people were blocking the exhibits while waiting their turn to look at a totally different area. Other than though, it far exceeded expectations and is 100% worth the visit.

A fabulous museum. I last visited in 1998 when it was miniatures only and the highlight was Bible verses on a grain of rice. Now it has a wonderful display of cinematic props and models, costumes, prosthetics, weapons and other artifacts. Wes Anderson has his own gallery. The miniature rooms on the top floor are simply amazing, both intricate and beautiful. Well worth a visit.

A privately owned museum that will delight film buffs and newbies alike! The ticket paid for itself with the ground-floor Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade sidecar (a reproduction that you can get in and photograph), as well as the idol from Raiders (that you can also play and photograph yourself with). I won't spoil your fun with more details: just know it is totally worth visiting 😊

Well located in the old Lyon in an old building. The visit starts with some of movie sets from "Le parfum", recreating iconic scenes. The museum deals with themes from cinema, from special effects to miniatures props. We were lucky enough to see the Alien Queen, which was at the museum for a limited time. The visit end with the wonderful works of Dan Ohlmann who worked thoroughly to provides you sceneries with beautiful details.

It was pleasure to see those original artifacts in real life. Loved also the miniatures on the 8th and 9th floor, I can't imagine how much work was needed for achieving such realism... quite baffling!

A decent amount of things to look at, it definitely has more interesting things to look at as you go around the museum. The Musèe Cinema etc Miniature in Lyon is a delightful attraction for those interested in small-scale craftsmanship. It features an impressive collection of miniatures created by both French and international artisans. The museum's highlights include intricate models of famous artworks and buildings, as well as lifelike dollhouses and tiny scenes from everyday life. Visitors can also admire a fascinating display of miniature cars and trains. The museum is a fun and educational experience for all ages, and a must-see for anyone with an appreciation for detail-oriented artistry. Miniature film sets have been in use as long as films have been made, with early examples dating back to the 1920s. However, it wasn't until the 1950s and 60s that advances in technology, such as stop-motion animation, made miniature sets a more popular and artful aspect of filmmaking. Over the years, miniature sets have been used in a wide variety of films, from visual effects-heavy sci-fi movies to period dramas and even commercials. Today, miniature sets are still used in many films, but often in conjunction with computer-generated imagery for more seamless special effects. A place for young and old, for people who are fans of film and art, or just for the curious person.

Brilliant if you are a movie fan. Real sets, props and costumes from some the biggest movies in history. Some of the displays maybe a little upsetting for very small children, but otherwise very family friendly. The building is very old and atmospheric. Loved the Alien Queen as used in AVP and the Predator costume.

A fantastic collection of film props! Each with French and English descriptions so there's so much to learn! Great for movie buffs and casual fans too. There's a lot of Tim Burton stuff which is fantastic. There's suits, prosthetics, full sets and so much more. Also there's a while other museum on the top floor which is so cool in itself, it has little mini super detailed worlds/diorama that yould think werre real places on camera

I came to this museum because I had access to it with the Lyon City Card pass (super easy to use when visiting Lyon). I really enjoyed this museum; it had 4-5 floors with 8-9 different exhibits. It’s a nice tourist attraction for cinephile and families that enjoy looking at movie props. I spent probably 1h30 doing all the floors and could’ve spent much longer if I wasn’t on a tight schedule. There is lineup to get in here, but it wasn’t long (probably 15-20 mins wait). I recommend this museum to all that visit Lyon, especially if you want to escape the afternoon summer heat.

Interesting museum, eventually! Huge fans of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (if any) may delight in the first few rooms where you can see several of the original sets reassembled in place with additional mannequins but for me who watched that film while hammered 15 years ago it was just like visiting one of those olde timey shoppe places like the castle museum in York, and of minimal cinematic interest. Much better are the headline original miniatures, visual effects, props and costume items. The miniature sets on the top floor are beautifully intricate but could perhaps do with further explanation as to what they were used for, perhaps it is obvious to French visitors.

  • 5/5 Olga S. 7 months ago on Google
I went to the museum early on a weekday and hence was alone in most of the rooms. I was straight away greeted with an installation from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. It was throughout creepy. I expected that at any moment the perfumer would jump from his chair screaming "boo"! Later on followed more cheerful and innocent posters of Star Wars, replicas of infamous costumes and statues the likes of Hell Boy, more spooky and gory skin bits and extremities from Terminator and Alien. It all ended on a cheery note of display of the Batman comics creations process and finally miniatures of real-life places. I left with exceeded expectations and a little bit more insight into how many of my favourite movies got to happen 🙂

This museum is amazing and one of the most entertaining things to do in Lyon so you must go there. They have an incredibly huge collection of movie props, original costumes and masks from classic films like Marvel series, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Chucky, Pirates of the Caribbeans, Alien and miniature scenes. Prepare for at least 3 hours of fun ! The ticket costs approximately 10 euro, there is no need to book in advance but prepare for crowds.

Absolutely amazing museum, with so many beautiful and incredible things to look at. Movie buff or not, you'll be impressed by the props here. Some have understandably not aged well, but are still stunning and great for nostalgia. I love the feel of the museum as well, as it is multi-floored, though one thing I didn't like was the hand drying towel thing in the bathroom as I tried to pull it down and it was damp, and people also tried to push into the way of the one stalled bathroom (not the fault of the staff!). The miniature collection is fantastic and jaw dropping. Sadly it was rather crowded when I went, and hard to see some things, as some people liked to push into others or just stand blocking the view while talking, but I did still get to see most of them. The admission is well worth what you can see there. If you have knee/back issues and are concerned about the stairs, they do also have an elevator!

Amazing collection of original pieces, masks, costumes, props, all completed with anecdotes and explanations of the filming techniques and tricks. The miniature section is simply spectacular, to see all those tiny details and minute perfection was impressive! The display is located in an ancient building, which makes the visit even more suggestive. The price is fair if you’re a film and TV series lover. I definitely loved this immersive experience, totally recommended!

An excellent place to visit in Lyon. If you have the city card then without a doubt you should visit this museum (and even if you pay regular admission, it is worth it). The selection of cinema artefacts is vast and interesting and if sheds a fun interesting light on movie special effects. There are props from major blockbusters as well as lesser know films. The miniature museum on the top floor is breathtaking, and the detail that the artists put into their works is amazing. The scenes are curious and fun. Overall this museum is well worth spending an hour or two in.

Part of the exhibition is very impressive, of course the most attractive are from the movies that I personally saw, for the rest the effect is not that strong. Miniatures are amazing, but again when you see a few, you're shocked how much work someone has put in it, but the more you watch, the more you get used to it.

(Translated by Google) A marvelous museum that highlights objects that have been used in films as diverse as Harry Potter, Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Caribbean. What can we say about miniature reconstructions by Dan Ohlmann if not that they are an enchantment for the eyes ... a real beautiful museum in the heart of the city.

(Translated by Google) The addition of the jumpsuit worn by Walter White in Breaking Bad made me shed my little tear. Very good museum, independent so a bit expensive and not free during heritage days, but otherwise you will get your money's worth.
