👍👍 We did a Secret Food Tour with Yann in Montmatre. We have been to Paris many times and we learned things we have not known or seen before. Yank’s knowledge about historical sites and events was outstanding and he made the tour fun. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the variety - macarons, chocolate... Oh you have simply got to take this tour when you come to Paris. Stephane -- our guide (maĂŽtre d' perhaps?) -- was an absolute delight. He liberally sprinkled the food insights with humor, social & political commentary, and constant witticisms. Some of his historical context was fascinating and helped bring the foods and cultural history into focus. And oh, the food! He walked us through the selection of incredibly fresh, rich, and tasty cheeses, meats, breads, chocolates, macraron, crepes, and more. Everything was first rate, and he helped us understand the why behind his selections, and how he goes about ensuring he purchases only the freshest and best ingredients. The final portion of the tour, where we all dined together in an intimate wine cellar-type environment, was the highlight. He taught us how to pair cheeses, how to properly consume baguettes (purchased warm from a local boulangerie), and how to generally have a delightful time with our group of new friends. All told, highly recommended, and a tremendous way to be introduced to the greatness that is Parisian food culture.

Yank’s knowledge about historical sites and events was outstanding and he made the tour fun. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the variety - macarons, chocolate, meats, cheese, crepes, and onion pastries. I would guess that my husband and I have done 15+ food tours all around the world. This was one of the best. Highly recommend.

*******UPDATE******* AUGUST 2023 I originally rated this business at 3 stars (see original post below for rating explanation,) but hearing from the business owner reflects someone is paying attention and that's sincerely appreciated, resulting in my changing the review rating. Thank you, Secret Tours, for your reply. It is obvious that you care about your business and you've more than achieved your goal, which "is to offer a diverse culinary journey that showcases both local markets and carefully curated selections that highlight the flavors of Montmartre - offering a distinct and well-rounded tasting experience," which was 100% on point. The final stop in the wine cellar may just not have been what we were expecting, but all other aspects were more than perfect; interesting with just the right amount of flair, great story telling and flourish befitting the region and country, which I should've focused on in my original review. We absolutely enjoyed our time on the tour and would recommend this to anyone! ------------------------------------------------------- JUNE 2023 I reviewed and posted this in September 2021. Not sure why, but it wasn't posted and I'm re-posting it again. Hope everyone is doing well. ORIGINAL POSTING SEPTEMBER 2021 Upfront I want to address the "3 star" rating. It has nothing to do with the tour guide or the food offerings (both good/interesting.) It's that we were ushered into the dark, musty basement of a small office off a "red light district" street to eat all the delicacies that were collected along the way. We're in this unique and beautiful part of Paris and it was very disappointing, especially after the tour guide mentioned (several times) how he has connections all over town, so several of us fully expected to sit at any number of outdoor cafĂŠs. The Secret Food Tour of Montmartre needs to attempt to find a location that's befitting of the city to experience the food and the tour lesson. Safe travels everyone.

What a great experience! Our guide, Sally, was excellent. She was so enthusiastic, gave great explanations about the places we went to and the food we ate, and on top of all that, she told us great tips! I would highly recommend this tour; we tried different foods of Paris (crepe, cheeses, baguette, and meats) and it was nice to get such a broad tasting. The "secret" food at the end was the best of all the food we ate! We left feeling very full and happy.

I had a great time during the Secret Food Tour in Montmartre, Paris with PJ! We didn't have any main courses so to speak, but many samples of breads, cheeses, cold cuts of meat and sweets. Everything was delicious, we had a great time! Plus the alcohol was yummy too, and PJ our guide made everything fun with plenty of history and info on the food to soak up too! I would recommend this tour!

We had such a great time with Kristoph in Montmartre in Paris. He was incredibly knowledgeable with a great wit and story telling ability. He showed us a whole other side of Paris that we wouldn't have seen as general tourists. Plus, THE FOOD! We got to taste a number of cheeses, meats and wines with really neat and easy to understand explanations from the guide. During the tour we also got the chance to go in to the kitchen of a master baker. It was an unforgettable experience. We will absolutely use secret food tours again in other cities we visit.

This is the most peaceful and relaxing picnic I have ever done. I didn’t have to prepare for everything. All I had to do was to wait for the delivery time then relax and breathe fresh air. More power to you guys!

We had a family reunion and decided to have a picnic, we booked for Secret Picnic Paris and we never thought that a simple picnic would turn into an amazing and healthy get together. The delivery was on time, the foods were all fresh and the drinks were all properly chilled. It’s amazing! We couldn’t ask for more. Salute!

Hira Nanako was the besttttt and the sweetest tour guide anyone could ask for! She is very knowledgeable and engaging and ensured everyone was having a good time. 11/10 would recommend, and I would 100% take another tour with her 💕 The food itself was a great selection of Paris' finest meats and cheeses, wine and confectionery.

We went to the chocolate and pastries tour and it was greater then we could have imagined. Alison, the tour guide, was sweet and charming, made the experience even better. She told us about everything we ate, its history and about the people who make them. It was interesting and delicious, it was a wonderful experience. We also really enjoyed the neighborhood we walked through and decided to stay in the area for a while longer.

This was easily one of the best food tours we have been on! We tried several meats, cheeses, and wines along with some sweets mixed in between. David was an excellent guide, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Very very nice person. He did a wonderful job on apparently one of his first few tours, he seemed like he knew it all! A wonderfully yummy time!

We absolutely loved our Secret Food Tour in neighborhood of Montmartre with Stephane. The weather did not cooperate, but Stephane was very great about limiting our time in the rain. It was so interesting to hear about the history of the French food we got to try, as well as some details about the romantic neighborhood. We also loved the company of our fellow tour goers. We left with full bellies, lots of laughs and an improved knowledge of what makes French food the best in the world.

I can't say enough good things about the Montmatre food tour we took with Sally. She was a wonderful guide, great sense of humor, and mixed food facts with general comments on the neighborhood history, France and wine. Everyone had a good time, and be prepared to start the tour with sweets, ending in a fabulous feast of the treasures of cheese, meats and wine. And, fear not, you will not go home hungry. Highly recommend and ask for Sally by name to be your guide.

We were only five people who had the pleasure of being on the food tour with Agatha in the Secret Food Tours Paris Montmartre. Agatha gave us a lot of information about French food products as she introduced us to several good shops, and while we enjoyed a crepes, she bouoght wonderfuld bread for us. After the "street"-tasting a lot of food was carried to a nice room, where we were introduced to very good cheeses and meats, which were being paired with good wine. We were not able to eat all the food. I can recommend the tour.

EXCELLENT FOOD TOUR ! On Wed, Oct 4th we had a Montmartre Food Tour lined up at 11am which had been booked by our travel agent. OOPS ! It meant we had to jump on the Paris Metro for the first time. With a little help from friendly Parisians on the platform we managed to get to our meeting place on time....Anvers Metro Station. There we met up with our food tour guide Nana and the rest of our tour group. We loved the leisurely walk to all the fascinating shops selling meats, cheeses, crepes, baguettes, macarons, chocolates and more. Our food tour guide Nana proved to be sensational explaining the history of everything on the menu incl wines. At the end Nana took us back to her headquarters where our food tour group enjoyed a virtual French banquet laid on by Nana. WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE !

Not taken to local restaurants to sample their dishes. Was offered different cheeses and some cold cuts and very good traditional bread. Sampled a couple wines, OK! Went to pastry shop and sampled excellent macaroons and some chocolate. Overpriced for what was offered and not really exposed to French foods.

Have a wonderful experience with Agatha our food tour guide. She’s charmingly knowledgeable lady. She will bring us to different shops to sample some food such as macaron, chocolates, cheeses, crepes and then we will go to an underground dining room to sample more cheeses, baguette, local meat and pairing with different wine. Great experience.

We had a great food tour at Secret Food Tours! Our tour guide, Ioana, was so friendly and gave us so much great history about the food we were eating (and of course it was delicious)! She also had great pairings chosen for our cheese/wine/meats. After a brief walk around the city, you also get a glimpse into French culture through a course by course tasting around a big table with your group. Personally, I usually prefer walking the whole tour, but the intimate experience around the table really made me feel like I was in a French home among friends. Ioana also had recommendations for us to try for our stay in Paris. Thanks for a great night Ioana!!

Secret Food Tours were a throughly interesting tour. We really went to small hole in the wall places, and some really good cheese shops! It was a fun experience, they plied us with so much food and wine, we couldn't move after the tour. 10/10 would recommend again.

Nana was very engaging and knowledgeable. I would give her 6 stars. The location for the main food event was in a basement area, accessible by a short spiral staircase. If you have mobility issues, this could be a challenge. The cheeses and wine paired nicely together.

Fantastic tour by Alexandre! Our family with kids 11,13,14 were grouped with another family with 2 teens and 1 couple. Alex took us to fantastic places for croissants, fromage, falafel (visiting the Jewish district), and various desserts that were fantastic! In addition, we learned SO much about French history, architecture, the history of the food we were eating and so much more! Our entire group found the tour super interesting and we definitely learned the most on our trip during this tour! So much fun!

My husband and I did two Secret Food Tours on our European honeymoon. Both were fantastic. Stephane, having grown up in Paris, was very knowledgeable about the city and its history. The group consisted of about 7 of us for the St. Germain tour. We met outside the train station where Stephane gave us a brief history of the city and its growth. Next we headed to a Chocolatier & Carmelier where we got to try some fantastic sweets. Next we headed to grab some macarons and more sweets for later. The macarons were probably some of the best I’ve ever had. We stopped at bakery next to grab some fresh bread and a fromagerie to grab some cheese to take with us. After getting some touring in we headed to the restaurant where we all sat at a table and had hours of great conversation. I suggest doing the additional alcohol package because it was definitely worth it. We had foie Gras, hams, sausages, your choice of a meal, a selection of different types of cheeses, and finally a dessert to finish it all off with. Stephane did a great job of explaining all the food and how to pair it with the alcohol. Everyone in the tour was fantastic and there was a lot of good conversation happening. Would definitely sign up to do it again when we go back to Paris!

Celine of Secret Food Tours Paris was an amazing tour guide! We did the Montmartre tour and loved her knowledge, and enthusiasm of this area. She choose wonderful little gems for us to visit and sample delicious local delicacies. The 'secret spot' at the end was a charming place to indulge in the (large) quantity of cheese, meat and bread we picked up along the way - paired perfectly with wine. Celine's friendliness and passion really made this tour a trip highlight!

My friend and I booked a Secret Food tour for the La Marais District of Paris. Ingrid was our guide. It was pouring down rain, which may have set a negative tone for our tour, but not for the cheerful, snappy attitude of Ingrid! She was an absolute delight! She was so knowledgeable about all of our stops and very eager to answer questions. We loved all of the food and tasty things presented to us along the way! This was definitely the highlight of our trip and would absolutely book again through this agency!

Absolute Must when visiting Paris! I feel like I now have seen a side of Paris privy only to the locals. Stéphane was incredibly informative and personalized the tour to the group’s interests. He taught us all about the culture and history of the food we explored. Food is such an integral part of our lives, and to experience a country/city’s cuisines is to experience a part of their identity. Stéphane expertly took us on a journey of discovery. He taught even the local in our group quite a few things.

Highlight of our trip to Paris! We attended the Montmartre secret food tour in March 2020 before the covid madness. Yan was our guide and we had a small Saturday morning group. The stops along the way were delicious and informative. Definitely feel more confident buying French bread and cheeses. The meal afterwards was fun- learned more and enjoyed meeting other tour group members. Enough wine- probably didn’t need upgraded drinks package- or for that matter breakfast in the morning! Come hungry, ready to walk, eat, drink, learn and enjoy! Will consider this tour company for future travels.

We went on the St. Germain tour and enjoyed a lovely 4.5 hour (I think it went over because we just got lost in the food and conversation). We hit up about 5-6 different spots along the way and learned a lot of new stuff about the things we were trying and also Paris. I've been here a few times and I love that a lot of the info wasn't the generic regurgitated stuff I've heard before. By the time we got to the tasting room, our appetites had been whet enough from the little tastings along the way and we were ready to eat and drink. There was plenty of that to go around while we chatted with the other people on the tour. It was really nice. Without giving too much away, we tasted macarons, caramels, freshly baked baguettes, a bunch of cheeses, a couple of wines, charcuterie, foie gras, and our dish of the day was a roasted duck. So good.

Our family booked the Marais food tour last December 24. We learned a lot from Aurora, our guide. She’s passionate about food, sharing with us the history of the French food we sampled in an enjoyable way. As a bonus, she also touched on the history of the Marais areas we passed, and sent a detailed summary of the food tour a few days after. Aurora had a great personality and communicated with us well. The experience was very memorable. We recommend the “Secret Food Tour” brand.

Alison (our guide) was realy passionate about the food. She knew her way around the neighborhoods and brought us to places I would have never found. Wonderful fresh chocolate and pastries. I did not have to feel guilty about eating so much with all the walking. Montmartre is such an interesting part of Paris.

This was an amazing tour. It was a highlight of our trip and the food was delicious. Our guide was Pierre and he was great. He taught us a bit about the food industry and about the neighborhood Montmartre. I would highly recommend it.

We were 7 women who took the "Secret food tour" in Montmartre, our guide was Chloe, she was nice, interesting and knowledgeable. Everything she picked for us was so tasty. I highly recommend this tour for everyone.

Secret Food Tours with Chloe was great! We visited parts of the city I had not explored so it was the perfect way to eat good food, learn about Paris, and meet new people. Highly recommend this tour.

Alison was a wonderful guide! Went to 5 different shops, all were amazing. Even my 16 year old boy enjoyed this tour, highly recommend!

We did the tour in Montmartre with PJ. The experience was great. PJ has a great deal of knowledge and was enthusiastic in sharing it. We not only learned about the food, but the many historic reasons why the foods are made the way they are. I'd encourage people to do this early in their visit to France so they know more about the food for the rest of their visit. Thanks PJ!

This was my first time in Paris and I REALLY enjoyed this food tour. Nil was our guide and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. We walked around the streets collecting little treasures, then sat down to indulge. There was a big range of cheeses, meats, wine, baguette, and desserts! I also enjoyed listening to some of Paris's History he shared. Highly recommended.

We had so much fun and learned a lot on our tour of Montmartre with StĂŠphane. He was very knowledgeable, open to questions and discussion, and each stop had a yummy treat!

We had a great day exploring Montmartte with Stafane. He had indepth knowledge of all things French (especially the cuisine of course!) and was such a pleasure to spend the day with. The food we ate was exquisite and the tour provided us with an array of experiences we would not have otherwise had. Highly recommend this tour.

Honestly, it was not what you are thinking. We went to some shops but you do not see much. You are taught a lot about food you never try. You do not see any sights but are told that we are close by. You go to a wine cellar for cheese tasting and wine. The meats were whatever the guide wanted. He even boasted that his friends liked when he works because he takes all the left food we buy home with him. The wine is ok. Do not spend your money for his supper.

One of the best food tours I have experienced! Emanuel took us through the neighborhood of Montmartre, describing the history and culture of the area. First we sampled chocolates and macarons. We then went on to shop for a feast we would enjoy later at their wine cellar. The entire experience was fantastic; learned so much about cheese making, toured a patisserie and watch a baker making banquettes. Ended up with an amazing amount of food, served with white and red wine, then champagne. By the end it felt like I’d just had dinner with good friends and had the best time. How will I go back to Seattle food?

We took the food tour of the marais with Aurora in December of 2019 and we had the best time with her. Although we had a group tour booked we were the only ones on the tour which was an amazing surprise and we were happy the tour was not cancelled. Aurora was a wonderful guide, smiley, personable and fun with lots of information at hand. She never rushed us and we ended up spending way more time with her than planed. She definitely made our trip to Paris unforgettable. Thank you for everything 😊

The Secret Food Tour of Montmartre was the highlight of my trip to Europe. Our guide Emmanuel aka Zebra was phenomenal. He knew everything one should know about everything from culture, and food. To the architecture and much more. He was also hilarious and had amazing stories to tell. The price is well worth it for the time you spend along with more food for an entire group to eat. I really recommend this Secret Food Tour booked with Emmanuel to he one of the main things you do in Paris!

Very nice. I like the place. Good bottle, good ham, cheese, bread in an envelope, it's so simple. Secret Picnic what a joy to live.

Hello, Secret Picnic!!! Your food is amazing! Your wine is perfectly chilled and you delivered our order on time! I highly recommend Secret Picnic to everyone who wants to save time from preparing. We booked for “The Sweet” and every dessert is very yummy. They also packed the food very nicely.

What a great way to have lunch in Paris. Great quality food and in quantity, the wine was food and location is just perfect. Having a picnic ready to eat delivered just under the Eiffel Tower is just one of the best thing we did in Paris. It's definitely a must do! Thanks Secret Picnic!

My daughter organised a picnic for me and my friends and we all loved it! It was very surprising! The foods are all delicious and fresh. The drinks are well chilled! I couldn’t ask for more. Thanks for making our reunion so memorable and special!

What a fun experience! We booked for a picnic, but on the day of the picnic, the weather went terribly bad. We had no other choice, but to collect our order then rush back to my friend’s apartment. We couldn’t imagine that indoor picnic will be that fun too, especially when you’re munching delicious food and sipping an exquisite wine. Thank you guys for the wonderful lunch!

We had Yan for our Montmatre Secret Food Tour. Absolutely worth every penny, it was our favorite thing we did in Paris. Yan was engaging and fun and the food was absolutely delicious. This is a don’t miss (coming from someone who doesnt usually like tours or “touristy” stuff).

I did the Secret Chocolate and Pasty Tour in Paris and it was great! We went to a variety of shops that included chocolate, macaroons, eclairs, Madeline’s, crepes, and crème puffs (I can’t remember the French name). All were excellent and the weather was wonderful , which was a wonderful addition. The tour guide was great, very clear, and gave us a ton of recommendations (we went to two of the restaurants she recommended). Very glad to do this tour and learn all about this interesting neighborhood.

  • 5/5 Melodie R. 2 years ago on Google
Our food tour was, hands down, our favorite activity in our eighteen-day, seven country trip through Europe. We loved getting to spend time with other enthusiastic visitors, learn about the neighborhood and food practices while trying samples, and then become "companions" (ones who eat bread together) while feasting on bread, cheese, wine, cured meats, and eclairs. I was especially grateful that the tour guide was able to accommodate my vegetarianism, seemingly producing a leek and chevre tart out of thin air for me to enjoy in place of everyone else's patĂŠ, ham, and sausage. We left having laughed, feasted, and made friends, feeling so warm and grateful. We have already recommended Secret Food Tours to others and will be taking other tours from the company if we're ever in a sister city!

Allison was a wonderful tour guide! She taught us so much about the world of chocolates and pastries in Paris... historical tidbits and just the ins and outs of chocolates and pastries. Every single item we tasted was heavenly! It truly felt like the best that Paris had to offer. She also pointed out local eateries that were not a part of the tour as well as ensuring that we saw the best parts of Montmartre like the I love you wall and pointing out the best/easiest route to get to Sacre Couer. Because of knowledge gained on her tour, we were able to choose the best restaurants in other parts of Paris, too. Truly priceless experience.

What a fun way to learn about Paris! I booked a tour of Montmartre with Stephane for our corporate group, and it was great - our team got to see the neighborhood, eat some local treats, and learn a ton about French food - they particularly loved the cheese, meat, and bread section! Everyone is still raving about the cheese. :-) Stephane did a great job for us - I would book this again!

My family is vegetarian. It’s awesome that this picnic offers very delicious healthy dishes for us. My kids love the Artisan Crisps and the fresh juices that we ordered. Our wine was perfectly chilled and perfectly fits the fruit salad! I’m planning to book for your services again next month!

This is undoubtedly one of the best lunch experiences I have ever had. The best picnic gourmets that we ate under the Eiffel Tower on a sunny day. We had the finest French wine, cheeses and Madeleines which remind me of my grandmother’s baking! Blanket is also included. Great service, highly recommended. Loved it!

We went on the Chocolate and Pastry tour in Paris led by Alison. The tour was awesome and all the chocolate and pastries we tried was something else! The only thing we regret is taking this tour on our 3rd day in Paris instead of the 1st day because Alison really gave us so much information about Paris and the culture. We can really recommend taking this tour!

This was excellent. We have been on a number of Secret Food Tours and all of them have been great. This one in St Germain was completely different from 4 years ago - and it was new and fresh and endlessly interesting. We kept Stephan a bit too long I suspect - But a real highlight on returning to Paris after COVID is on the run.

Leo is the best! We've been to Paris several times and always rent an apartment so we can shop the market streets. We wanted to explore Montmartre a little more this trip, and the food tour sounded like a fun activity to do with friends. TBH, I just expected to enjoy the day, the walking, the exploring, and the good eats and drink at the end of the tour. I didn't really expect to "learn" a lot. We were all pleasantly surprised at how informative Leo was throughout the tour, and his "lessons" during the meal were priceless. He was very engaging, funny, and tuned in to his audience. While we may disagree on the value of rose' wine, we believe his other insights into food, beverage, and history were spot on ;). My recommendation is to do this tour at the beginning of your trip so you can employ Leo's recommendations and tips throughout your stay. While I initially thought the final location setting was a bit odd, it turned out to be just right.

GREATEST FOOD TOUR EVER!!! This is the tour that raised the bar. This in the one I am still talking about all these years later. I LOVED THIS TOUR. I learned so much and ate so well. Our Guide was funny and nice and gave us an experience of a lifetime.

Stephane led us on one of the, hands down, best food tours we have ever taken. Having been to Paris several times, we were looking for something different to do and decided to take our first 'Secret Food Tour.' Best decision we made on this trip! Tour was phenomenal, and our guide Leo was fantastic! We learned great facts and history plus tried a wide variety of food, sweets and savories. Leo explained the history and significance of each item and place we went. We did the St Germaine tour and can’t wait to try others.

What a fun way to experience some of the culture of Paris! Our tour guide, Yann, did a fantastic job guiding us through the streets of Paris, and introducing us to many of the local food shops. Along the way, we collected food from several shops, and then sat down as a group and got to taste all of the different delights! This was one of our favorite tours during our week in Paris. Would highly recommend.

This tour was fine but far from the 5 stars it seems to have. Our guide imparted some local information but there was a lot of downtime that relied on the group to create conversation. If we'd been learning about Montmartre for 3+ hours, that'd would have been great but it could easily have been condensed into 2 hours and 15 minutes because of this downtime. Three of the stops you don't go into, she goes in and gets the food for you. To me that isn't really a food stop. Additionally we paid for the upgrade of wines and got only two small glasses (maybe 2.5 oz) of two different things. Realized later there was another beverage we should have been served. Also didn't start out great since though we'd received numerous emails that the tour would leave without you if you were not there on time, we waited at least 15 minutes for a couple to show up. Unfortunately would not do this again. :(

Lynn (I hope I spelled that right) was a great tour guide for our group of four. She kept the tour interesting and engaging despite it being such a small group. Great tour! Stephane really spent the time to explain the area, the connection of the area to the food and the history of the food that was sampled. Great wandering the back streets and seeing the non tourist parts of Paris. Such a fun tour and the lunch at the end was a real highlight! Plenty of food and wine and great company. Highly recommend the tour and Stephane was a wonderful knowledgeable host!

My husband and I participated in the Secret Food Tour Sainte Germaine district. This was my first food tour and I really appreciated the experience. Matthew was our guide and he provided both excellent food information and also great info about the Paris and its neighborhoods. I appreciated learning about the best local fare and trying all sorts of delicious treats. Matthew was highly personable, approachable and knowledgeable (and fun too). Our small group of 11 shared some amazing dishes and wines at the "surprise" meal at the end of our five food sampling stops. I also appreciated traveling with a small group and this was a great tour size. I'd recommend this tour to others, most certainly.

Abril was an amazing guide who was fun to talk with and super knowledgeable about all things food and Parisian living! We had a great time walking the streets and felt safe & informed with her guidance. Near the end of the walking tour, we arrived at the ‘secret spot’ and had a fantastic sampling of wines, meats, cheeses and treats she had picked up along the way- such a fun and memorable experience to share with friends- new and old- since you get to chatting and know more about everyone you’re on the tour with, including our phenomenal guide, Abril! We will book again with her, by name, in the future and hope to see her in new cities all around the world!
