Iconic historical landmark of Vilnius. It is a must-visit place in the city that can be easily reached on foot or by funicular. There is a wonderful view of the whole city from there. It is also a good orientation point if you are walking through the streets of Vilnius.

As one of the landmarks of the city you’d be crazy not to pay a close up visit to this site. There’s a choice of routes up to the tower - either the funicular which costs a few Euros extra, or walking up the steep cobbled hill. The walking route is tough to begin with but soon turns into steps and a proper constructed path, but if uneven walking or steps are difficult then the funicular is the way to go. Once at the top of the hill there’s a great view of the eastern part of the city. The tower itself and building work prevent a view over the Old Town but I’d recommend heading to the top of the tower to get the view. Upon entering I was directed to the ticket counter where a €5 fee got me a chance to climb to the top. You aren’t given the chance to climb before entering the ground floor and the direction of new visitors is controlled by the staff on the door. There’s a gift shop on the ground floor and some displays on the floors up above. These are interesting but it’s clear most visitors are interested in the views from the windows, or wanting to reach the top of the stairs to the summit. The stairs themselves are steep and narrow and although the lack of control for people climbing and descending wasn’t great, there was enough width to let most crowds pass without too much issue. Once at the top the view is as good as it gets of the city. It’s a true 360 degree perspective and the top of the castle is large enough to mean it’s not crowded, even during busy periods. With a perspective over the Old Town, the city to the north and the forest it’s easy to spend quite some time at the top admiring the views so fortunately there’s no limits on time etc. The descent down is a lot quicker and easier, but again it’s navigating the steep steps. For the ticket price charged it’s a good value experience. Given that you’re free to spend as much time as you like at the top, and the views are decent, with some good displays on the way up, I’d certainly class it as a ‘must-do’ in the city and would love to return.

What an amazing piece of history to have been able to visit. It's quite the walk heading up there so have your walking shoes on. Breathtaking views on the observation deck on top of the Castle. You have to check this place out if you ever visit Vilnius.

Historic landmark, beautiful view. Worth the climb. If you have difficulties there is also a small funicular that can take you up and down. You can see perfectly the whole town.

the views from the Gedimimas castle tower are great and it only takes 10 to 15minutes to get there. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as the footpath has definitrly not been made for high heels 😉🙃🙂

If you go to Vilnius, this is obviously the one place you should visit. Access to the mount is free. The views across the city from the top are fantastic and the whole site is interesting. Within the tower there are a few exhibits, though they could fit a lot more in, considering they charge for entry. You can either walk up or take the funicular up. The walk on the side coming from the river is quite steep, with stairs at the top of the path. There is a much easier walk from the main square. I would certainly recommend a visit, just for the views.

Must Visit!!! Really quiet when we visited, we couldn't have asked for more! Nice walk up and there's a funicular railway if your not up for a steep climb. Beautiful views leading up to the tower. It is currently under construction and will be for a few more years, doesn't spoil the visit though. The tower itself is a museum and very interesting for those looking to gain some knowledge, bit of your just after the views head straight to the top (bear in mind there's a small entrance fee, so head to reception first) the climb is very steep with a winding stair case and no other options to ascend. Once up the views are a panoramic 360. Enjoy the views of the capital courtesy of Gediminas!

Very beautiful and unique castle, you can go up by foot or by a lift for small price. The view from the castle is just perfect in a good day you can see all the city from above. In the winter is very unique

Great tower and once part of a very large fortified defence system that covered the entire beautiful old town of Vilnius. Stunning views from the tower and there is a half decent museum inside. €6 entry fees.

I can understand why some people may not enjoy it or find it lacking but other things need to be admired. The site has such a historical significance and that alone is impressive. Then there is the views overlooking all corners of the city which is really beautiful! I’d say go check it out! Bring some snacks and enjoy the views while having a picnic :) There are a few ways up as well. 1.) There are stairs which can be difficult if your not able and 2.) There is a tram that runs up and down the hill so you can avoid all the climbing.

It’s not quite clear where exactly the entrance is, but once you walk around the perimeter, you’ll see the signs for walking up or taking the funicular. The views are wonderful, and it’s nice that paying to go up the tower is optional, so you can enjoy the top without having to pay for access. This is a must if you want to get a great view of both sides of the city of Vilnius.

I visited this place. It’s just near the Cathedral. The Gediminas Castle Tower in Lithuania is a historic and iconic landmark. It is a symbol of the country's rich history and offers stunning views of Vilnius. The tower is a must-visit for its historical significance and breathtaking panoramas.

Spectacular view of the city from above👌🏻 It’s located in the center and it doesn’t need much time and energy to get on top of the hill to the castle, although there’s also an elevator to get there if you feel in difficulty to get there with a payment of just 1€. To visit the castle it costs you 5€ but it worths to have a 360 degree view above Vilnius center. You can some historical exhibitions & explanations inside as well.

I had the privilege of getting to the top of this tower and seeing the entire old town in Vilnius, and this is a beautiful historic castle tower that was constructed in the 1400s. It felt like I was traveling back in time and the staff here were friendly and informative when asked them questions. Anyone traveling to Vilnius for the first time must come and check this place out. 5 Stars!!

A nice view of the city combined with an interesting history lesson inside the tower. You need a ticket to go inside, and the exhibition is a bit small. The view from the tower is only slightly better than on the ground, so in order to save a few euros take your pictures from the ground. The walk up is not very hard.

It's so worth the climb. It's not a long climb, a tad steep but there are steps and bars to assist ascending. The view of the city from the top is magnificent especially towards sunset as the light hits certain points of the city. Fantastic

One of the must visit places in Vilnius. I am not sure if this is the highest point in the city or not, but from here the panoramic view of the entire Vilnius city is some which no one should miss. Two options to reach the top, via Vertical lift or by walk. We choose to climb up by walk, and the path is well demarcated and maintained. No tickets apart from the tower, it was closed when we visited.

I didn't know anything about this artist until my visit to the museum. I really liked most of his works, which are of 3-4 different styles. They are exhibited in the 2nd floor of the museum, while in the 1st there is an exhibition of his personal collection of other Lithuanian artists. A very nice museum that you can visit for 2€ only!

(Translated by Google) The ingenious idea of organizing a concert in the hall of a museum as long and narrow as a corridor and putting artists on the short side without a stage ... 12 rows of chairs NOT STAGGERED, no system to show the artists even beyond the first 2 or 3 rows .. Yet there were projectors ready, or you could put the artists on the long side and all the spectators around, or you could put the artists on a raised stage ... In short, there were many ways to make this concert enjoyable but the respect for those who paid 23 euros for the ticket (about 140 people in the dining room) was obviously not there. Very angry. Molto arrabbiato.

Though most of Gediminas’ Castle no longer remains, a tower from the Upper Castle is still standing. Originally built in the 1400s, the Upper Castle is one of Lithuania’s most famous historical landmarks. A walk up the hill to take a closer look at this brick structure provides stunning views of Vilnius’ historic old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The entrance is free of charge to the tower itself and this is good enough to see the panorama of the city. If you want to get inside to the tower itself then it is 5 EUR and I think that is a bit too much. The area is at the moment under construction at least party and hence I recommend to visit also the 3 Crosses which you will see from there too.

Really enjoyed this place, at first I thought it was simply an historical tower, but inside the it is a museum above the gift shop. It explains Lithuanian history from around the 11th century until their independence in 1991. I must have been too young to remember the Baltic Chain (Chain of Freedom) carried out by over 2 million people in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in 1989, but I learnt this today. The museum also has short historical videos on one of the floors, which are worth watching. It was definitely worth the €5 entry fee, also it's €1 to use the electric cable car to get up the hill to the castle, if you're too tired to walk 😉

(Translated by Google) An ancient tower next to a river at the top of a steep hill. You can climb to the top on foot, or in a special trailer. Upstairs for add. board you can go inside the tower and see the exposition. The staff of the monument, and especially one lady, having heard Russian speech, began to find fault with us and behave defiantly towards us. As a result, we could not get with the child on a paid excursion. I thought that the problem of the attitude of Lithuanians towards Russians and Belarusians remained in the past, and this is basically the case, but apparently there were some specimens stuck there.

We were on a snowy day of minus 8 degrees. Getting up in such a cold is not physically simple - certainly for a person living in a hot country. Reaching the top reveals an amazing view of the entire painted city. We decided not to enter the museum and the cable car did not work either.

Wanted a viewing point whilst on a quick stop over in Vilnius. We were short for time as well as wanted to try it out, so used the funicular. It could have been better signposted so ended up going round the hill. It’s €1 per person per ride and once inside allows for use of toilet as well.. The climb up didint look very hard and apart from the steep stairs going down (for those like me scared of heights might be a bit scary) I would opt for that instead next time. The views were lovely once in top. So we’ll worth it

It is one of the best places to see the magnificent panoramas of Vilnius. It's a bit of a challenge going up the hill, but it's worth it. Go up to see the sunset, the red roofs of Vilnius, church towers, and the narrow streets of the Medieval Old Town.

The location is nice and the view is probably the best in Vilnius but the older lady "greeting" people at the front door of the tower was extremely rude. We asked if we can go to the top of the tower and instead of just answering the question, she rudely said "ask the ticket counter." After buying tickets, we also asked her how do we get to the top, and again, instead of just simply answering the question, she tells us "check the signs." She was very unhelpful which made us wonder what was her purpose there. If you're unhappy with your life and don't like interacting with people then you shouldn't work in the tourist industry. She was the only negative experience we had during our trip to Vilnius, everyone else we interacted with was friendly.

Lots of construction and renovation work taking place on the steep path leading to the 14 century tower shows Vilnius city want to attract more tourists to the landmark. Wooden stairs was being added to make it easier to walk than on the cobbled stone path. There is also a funicular helping people. Admission to the tower and small museum is 5 euro for adult as of Jun. 23, 2019. Regular and video exhibitions of the history and the views from the tower is shown on the second and the first floor, respectively. Finally, on the top of the tower is the observation deck, and you can see the triple cross on the other side of the hill, the great view of the city and the tall, thin structure of TV tower on the other bank of Neris river. Nice place to spend half to an hour.

We took a guided tour and it was quite incredible, especially if one is a lover of art. The museum guide explained well the point of the artists' collection and vision to create much more than an asthetic environment in this labyrythical museum where he and his wife also resided. The open doors for the eye to rest and travel room to room, the atmosphere of contrast created by positioning abstract art next to classical sculptures is quite breathtaking, as is the collection of art books in the library.

Amazing place full of heritage and history, it's €5 to go inside the tower, and while the stuff inside isn't the most fascinating due to limitation of its size. I still recommend going in the tower because the view from on top is phenomenal, you can see all of Vilnius. The hike on to the hill was a bit tough (i dont exercise) but worth it. There is an option for elderly, disabled or people with small kids, to take the escalator which brings you to the top for only €1 per person.

To climb the tower and look down on Vilnius. Those with red roofs are Baroque buildings with three white crosses on the opposite mountain. If you don't get to the tower, the whole castle viewing platform is free. The tower is the starting point of the two million person wall of the "the Baltic way" in the pursuit of independence.

When in Vilnius take time to visit the Gediminas Castle Tower as it gives you a great view over the city in all directions. We took the Funicular Railway up to the tower which was quick and easy and saved a bit of a climb. The railway was inexpensive and in itself an experience. There was work going on near the tower, looked like they are adding to the ramparts or making them safer. You have to pay to go into the tower and I got a disabled discount which was good. It is quite a climb to the top of the tower but well worth the effort with the great view. On different levels of the tower there are different exhibitions going on, the one about the Baltic Way, where 2 million people from Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia join together to hold hands across the three countries was particularly interesting. Make time to visit the tower, it is well worth it.

Overpriced at 5 Euro, they know people will pay the price regardless because of the stunning panorama. The view from the hill is nice enough, but the experience from the top of the tower is on a completely different level. The museum is small and rather uninspired, they threw some stuff in to justify charging an entrance fee. The climb to the tower can be tricky in the winter or when it's raining as the rocks can get quite slippery, come with proper shoes

(Translated by Google) Gediminas Tower - May 2019 'Viewpoint' is a beautifully composed word. We want that 'view', but we don't make it 'point' to take the elevator - we've walked enough today, and we're not there yet. When we arrive at the top, we take the Gediminas Tower itself, via the narrow, old, medieval stairs. Gediminas founded Vilnius, made it its capital and was a famous ruler of Lithuania. That will take place somewhere around 1300. In the tower floors we see a photo exhibition and a film about the 'Baltic Road': an impressive and peaceful demonstration on 23/8/1989, in which two million people formed a chain in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. from Tallinn to Vilnius (600 km) for independence from Russia. A relief tile at the Cathedral reminds us of this. Underneath this artwork a capsule is buried with a message for generations to come. The view from the roof terrace isn't great, but we're almost on top of the Vilnius Cathedral and Palace, and see the Neris River meandering through the city below. Still nice for a photo for the home front: We were in Vilnius! From a distance on another hill we see the monument of the three crosses, in our time the symbol of Lithuanian identity and the resistance to the oppression of the Soviet Union, although it has a different origin!

It's a very nice tower, overlooking the city. You come here for the view. It is nice inside the tower, but naturally as you can see, you're not going to spend a lot of time in the tower. You can stand on the top though, which is super cool. It's what you'd expect it to be.

Mediveal city dominant with great 360 degree view. You can reach the top by funicular (tickets are 2-4 euro) or by foot by stone road and wooden stairs. Tower on a top works as museum. Prices are not cheap. Be prepared for wind. Restoration is going now.

I enjoyed visiting it’s the tallest point in the city and take about 10 mins to walk to The toll of the hill, we’ll work it as you get stunning views And it looks every better covered in blanket of snow We were lucky as it’s the last Sunday of the month we did not have To pay for the entry and we got to see some of the attraction inside like a short history of the tower and got to walk to the top Also Am sure it’s about 11 euros if i had to pay , so it’s still worth the visit up .. u can’t walk to the top and not pay if u don’t want to walk inside

Lovely place, I went up with the lift (up-down €2,-) I didn’t have to wait and I was up there in 5 minutes. The view up there was lovely and Vilnius looked like a winter wonderland. Come here if you’re visiting the city.

One of the must visit landmarks in the city. It has a small exhibit that is worth having a quick look around but the main attraction is the tower itself. The views from the top are of the entire Old Town and some of the rest of Vilnius and these are unrivaled. There is a hillside train to assist people getting to the top of the hill if walking isn't possible but the only way to access the tower is stairs.

  • 4/5 Mario S. 10 months ago on Google
Great views of Vilnius even from the base of the tower. There is a funicular railway which costs 1€ each way. The hike up the hill is possible but, in my opinion, quite dangerous. It's steep and for the most part paved in cobblestone and often without handrails.

  • 4/5 panagiotis d. 10 months ago on Google
What is worth most about the tower is the panoramic view of the city. Best times are early in the morning or at sunset. Pay particular attention to the operating hours of the cable car because otherwise the ascent is by stairs (as I did).

Most see it! The Gediminas castle is incredibly well designed and inspiring with a view of the beautiful old town. The original walking path up to the castle is closed for the restoration. You can access the castle by the newly made walk or take a lift from an armor museum. The inside castle is not handicapped accessible. The city of Vilnius is celebrating 700 years in 2023.

  • 5/5 Johnny R. 9 months ago on Google
Easy hike up. You can take the stairs or pay 1€ each way up and down for a total of 2€ using the tram. Great views of the city Vilnius. Also has a museum you can enter i believe but you may have to pay i could t read the sign and honestly didn’t even bother translating.

  • 3/5 Laura C. 8 months ago on Google
The walk up is nice, and so is the view, but I didn't want to pay the 8€ to go up inside the tower. For how small it looked, that seemed a bit steep.

  • 5/5 Patrycja S. 8 months ago on Google
All that's left from the castle is one tower and some ruins. You can climb the tower or use an elevator, entrance is paid. To get to the hill you can use a ferry ride for 1 € per person/ride. Or you can climb pretty steep hill and stairs to get on top. Not recommended for people with movement problem/bad knees etc. - use furnicular instead. However, you can get really nice view of the town from here. One of the best. I would say.

  • 5/5 Paulius S. 8 months ago on Google
If you haven't already, get on. If you've been, you know what I'm talking about, so climb again, another day, or maybe another time of the year. Vilnius is diverse, Vilnius is all kinds and you can make sure of that very well, looking at it from the top of the tower. The sloping old roofs of Vilnius, framed by the straight lines of Naujamiestis, the variety of churches, the fresh-sounding architecture of the central business district and the greenery of the Three Crosses Hill. Everything looks accessible and fits well from here. No doubtd Gediminas tower is the best historical observation deck in Vilnius. And won’t forget the story of the tower itself?

Why would I travel all this way to have garbage bags and safety tape in all my photos? Oh please fix the loose step, before somebody gets injured. Thank you!😁
