Really informative exhibition explaining the occupation of both the German and Russian army's. Graphic details about the atrocities committed so, not for the faint of heart. Much bigger than I expected it to be so, if you love history you could spend many hours and still not have read all the information. The KGB prison in the basement was terrifying but at the same time very poignant and explanatory of the daily struggles Lithuanians experienced during occupations. Well worth a visit.

I learned so much about the atrocities committed under Soviet occupation to Lithuania. It’s a very text heavy museum to visit so be prepared to read a lot. It’s very interesting and takes you through various stages of soviet occupation. Allow atleast an hour and half to take in everything. Some information outlines the deportations, the killings, mass graves and the resistance (freedom fighters). The downstairs KGB prison is a harrowing and solemn experience that you should definitely walk through. You can just feel the sense of torment and horror. I was shocked to find cells that were padded and used for torture while others were filled with ice cold water in solitary confinement. There’s also an execution room. It’s a very interesting museum to visit and I recommend it 👍🏽👍🏽

This place is horrifying. In here many people were persecuted, tortured, killed mainly by the brutal Soviet regime during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania. I hope it never happens again. This place makes you really appreciate the values of freedom. Inside the explanations are very accurate and exhaustive.

The Museum opened shortly after Lithuania gained its independence from Soviet Russia in 1991. The KGB operated out of this building for nearly 50 years. The basement prison remains as it was found after their departure. Interrogations, confinement, torture, exercise yard, and executions were all conducted here and seen here. Exhibitions on the upper floors deal w the "pain & dramatic times in the history of Lithuania: the loss of independence, brutal reprisals at the hands of the Soviet regime, and the bitter fight for the reestablishment of independence." Unbelievable sad and revealing 😔.

Interesting museum that navigates the visitor through the Lithuanian rexent history during Soviet occupation. The most spectacular exhibit is apparently the KGB prison on the basement. You can feel the horror of those that suffered there. The rest of the museum is nice however quite small. Is a must if you ate visiting Vilnius. It took around 45 minutes to see the whole museum.

Amazing museum! There is a former KGB prison downstairs and two large exhibitions upstairs. It offers many perspectives on the WWII and post-war era in Lithuania. The prison can be a bit hard to stomach for some, especially the torture rooms and execution chamber, but the authenticity is really captivating. The exhibitions upstairs are more accessible, and offer a lot of information with loads of text, so if you like reading all the signs you will spend a lot of time here. Nevertheless, there's a lot to see as well!

An interesting museum, about the Soviet regime in Lithuania. In the building are 3 floors and all of them well made to tell you all those sad stories, but still i highly recommend taking a guide! It will save your time and also make it more informative.

Very interesting museum. The most thrilling and atmosphere part is basement where prisoners were kept. One of the most interesting aspects is that there are a lot of similar places still functioning in Belarus or Russia, so if you want to know what political prisoners have to deal with in those countries - just visit this museum. Also very interesting exhibition is located on 2nd floor where you can see the equipment that KGB used. Lots of devices like metal detectors and surveillance equipment.

We paid 6 euros each as adults to get in. Based on 3 floors, it tells the story of occupation and resistance. Based in the former KGB building, it has many displays using the original rooms where terrible acts took place. The most harrowing of these is the execution room in the basement. This could be missed, so please take time to find it if you so wish. Plenty to read and look at it is well worth a visit.

This is a museum worth visiting. It shows the extreme cruelty afflicted by the Soviet authorities during decades of occupation. Go here and learn what can happen if Ukraine caves😢. You will be exposed to very graphic content so be prepared! A very sinister chapter in the history of Lithuania and the world! ❤️🇱🇹

Title: A Fascinating Journey into History at the KGB Museum in Vilnius Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently had the opportunity to visit the KGB Museum in Vilnius, and it was a truly enlightening experience. The museum provides a glimpse into the dark past of Soviet occupation and the atrocities committed during that era. The most captivating aspect of the museum was undoubtedly the basement, where the cells, torture rooms, and execution chambers were located. Exploring this area was a chilling and thought-provoking experience, as it offered a stark reminder of the harsh realities faced by individuals during that period. The museum has done an excellent job in preserving and presenting this part of history, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the struggles endured by those affected. The basement section deserves special recognition for its authenticity and the emotions it evokes. The exhibits throughout the museum are informative and well-curated, providing a comprehensive overview of the KGB's operations and the impact it had on Lithuania. The artifacts and photographs on display serve as powerful reminders of the oppression faced by the people and the resilience they demonstrated in the face of adversity. The museum effectively presents historical information, and the audio guides are a valuable resource that enhance the overall experience. The staff at the KGB Museum were knowledgeable and approachable, willing to answer questions and provide additional insights. Their passion for preserving history and educating visitors was evident, and they contributed to making the visit informative and engaging. One aspect that could be improved upon is the layout of the museum. At times, the flow of the exhibits felt a bit disjointed, and it was challenging to navigate through the different sections. Some additional signage or a clearer pathway would be beneficial in ensuring a smoother visitor experience. It is important to note that visiting the KGB Museum can be emotionally intense, as it exposes the harsh realities of the past. Sensitivity and respect for the subject matter are crucial when exploring the exhibits, as they depict the suffering and trauma endured by many. In conclusion, the KGB Museum in Vilnius offers an eye-opening and immersive journey into Lithuania's history during the Soviet occupation. The basement section, with its cells, torture rooms, and execution chambers, stands out as the most compelling and thought-provoking part of the museum. The exhibits are informative, and the staff is knowledgeable and approachable. Although the layout could be improved, the museum effectively presents a significant chapter of history that should not be forgotten. I recommend visiting the KGB Museum for anyone interested in understanding the impact of the Soviet regime and paying tribute to the resilience of the Lithuanian people.

Admission for adults: 6 euros and highly recommended Historic site occupied by the local Gestapo and KGB headquarters, showing the real mysteries as they were in the past A place that records Lithuanian history. From the Second World War to the 1990s and describes how the Gestapo and KGB treated uncomfortable Lithuanians, priests and others. However, it also shows the bravery of the nation and the partisan groups who fought for their countrymen

(Translated by Google) Very atmospheric. True, as a citizen of another country, it seemed too one-sided to me. Representatives of all nationalities were on both sides, and they are presented as the fault of the Russians (perhaps it seemed to me). But the museum is a must-see for everyone who wants to revive the USSR. P.S. I'll change my early review a bit. After the events in Belarus on August 9-13, 2020, it will not be particularly interesting for Belarusian tourists. I do not want to offend the Lithuanian brothers, but for the Belarusians it may seem too "light".

I can't say enough good things about this museum. A person could definitely spend an entire day here, soaking up all of the history. The best word I can use to describe it is emotional. The museum itself is very well kept, clean, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. There is also a great selection of books that you can buy at the ticket sales window.

(Translated by Google) Interestingly, you can hang for a few hours, documents on the stands in Russian, signatures in Lithuanian and English. Worth a look, for those who love this, but a little hard psychologically. In the basement there are cameras in which you can enter, and there are closed ones - there you have to look through the peephole or the window.

A must-see if you have some time while in Vilnius. We’ve seen other KGB museums and they always leave you feeling heavy and somber, but it’s important to know of these things even if they are sad and/or terrible. The rooms are done really well and 95% have English translations. The rooms that stuck out to me were the basement cells and the execution chamber. Bullet holes can still be seen in the walls of the chamber. The cells seem to go on forever and have been pretty well preserved. Really worth a visit.

We liked the museum but the exhibits are in small rooms and that doesn't help when there's many people. So maybe go early? You must see the KGB prison: the pictures, the cells, the execution and torture chambers can leave you gasped for air.

Hands down the definitive and must-see museum of Vilnius. As a Hungarian I couldn't help but notice the identical details of KGB operations, as well as the choice of (excellent) curation and even location in the former HQ of it with a basement prison to our equivalent museum in Budapest, the House of Terror. It's not a matter of stars, just go visit if you're in Vilnius. 1.5-2 hours at the bare minimum suggested for a visit.

The logic and civilization of modern society automatically stops as soon as the visitor descends the steps that lead to the underground cells and execution ground of the victims of the genocide. Emotions of horror and sadness fill our soul and a melancholy weighs on our sight. May humanity never again experience such atrocity!

It's a very crude exposition of the terrible period that was the occupation of Lithuania by the Soviet Union. The cells are shown as KGB left them after democracy returned to Lithuania, to show the conditions that prisoners had to endure. An Audioguide is totally recommended and can be shared with a friend.

One of my favorite museums in Vilnius. Rather gloomy, but truly tells the story of Lithuanian occupation by the Soviets. The basement holds real prison and torture cells, makes your skin crawl. I recommend going there with someone who could tell you more about what they or their parents remember from that time period (almost every lithuanian family was touched by deportations to Siberia).

Very moving experience displayed by the back and forth occupations displayed by the use of this building, since the 1920s. The sense of menace and anxiety is tangible from first walking inside the heavy door, despite some of the display rooms on the ground and first floors not being well presented - the vast quantity of explanatory text obscuring the artifacts and sense of what the room was used for. The real impression however is from the cells in the basement - which is very impactful.

The ticket price is 6 euros. This museum exhibits the history of Lithuania during World War I and II, including the brutal actions of the Soviet Red Army. The underground museum, in particular, recreates the atmosphere and scenes of that era. I strongly recommend viewing the movie footage of “Katyn” by Andrzej Wajda, which is displayed in the museum. It exposes the ugliness of political power struggles and interests. It is important to remember history.

The museum has an exhibition showing the fifty-year-long Soviet occupation of Lithuania. Documents, pictures, props and equipment such as wiretapping equipment, uniforms and weapons testify to the occupation and its meaning on the Lithuanian people. The building that currently houses the museum was used by the Soviet intelligence service KGB (Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti) and its predecessor NKVD (Narodnyj komissariat vnutrennich del) until 1991. What the museum is best known for is the basement where there were interrogation rooms, cells, torture rooms and execution rooms. The death cells and execution rooms were used until 1963 and over a thousand people have been executed here… Those who ended up here were not criminals, villains or thieves but ordinary people but with a different political view than those in power and a love for their country. It could have been you or me… The museum provides a frightening and realistic insight into what it really looked like behind the Iron Curtain, not many miles or decades from our open and democratic society. You value your life and your freedom in a completely different way after visiting this museum… This is not a nice place but worth seeing and interesting from a historical perspective.

Hosted by the former headquarters of the KGB in Vilnius, this museum was one of the top experiences of my visit to the city. It's very heavy in all regards: building itself was witness to a lot of gruesome history, the curation is very detailed and it's text heavy as well. You could easily spend two to three hours here depending on the level of interest. It's usually quite crowded and this could be a problem since the space to move around is limited. They have a good selection of books on sale, some in English, for reasonable prices. Come prepared for an experience that will leave a mark!

(Translated by Google) Was here more than a year ago, for a tourist who understood a little before and is familiar with the history of the Soviet Union and its collapse, it will be very interesting. After all, the whole story from a to z is clearly presented here, and as a result, by the end of the excursion you will understand why the Lithuanian people treat the "Reds" in such a way. The museum itself is conveniently located from the point of view of geolocation, the building itself is the oldest and the strangest thing is that it was here that the very NKVD / GB was located, right with each hall going further, you feel this story on yourself. An excellent museum, a must-see for any tourist.

The service of the staff was cold and lacking. If you are so unlucky to go through the museum at the same time as the local guide, EVACUATE! He was not happy having "others" there at the same time as him, he made snarky comments about us to "his group" for us to hear. But the history he was sharing was definitely not for us. Just the way he looked at us down in the chambers😅 Yikes, he was rude and very disrespectfull towards the guest who had not payed for his joy of distributing history. (if you read this, a smile goes a long way man!) Other then that it was a museum with a lot of reading. Bring your glasses and patience. It is probably nicer then two starts, but the shadow of once a nice tour guide totally ruined the experience for us. 🥲

(Translated by Google) Disturbing and captivating at the same time. Very well-kept museum full of historical artifacts ranging from clothing, documents, furniture, weapons, photographs, objects of common use and video testimonies. Worth seeing are the rooms in the basement that served as prisons, very well preserved and almost completely accessible (Original) Inquietante e affacinante allo stesso tempo.

Sombre place, but a must visit non the less. Be sure to go downstairs to the KGB prison. Overall you'll expect to spend around 2 hours here.

You can learn a lot about the Lithuanian history and the sovjet union in general. Bette be prepared to read a lot on the boards. It will be worth it.

A must visit museum when in Vilnius to learn more about the recent history of the city. Most of the boards are written in English as well as Lithuanian. The exhibits of photographs and artefacts of the freedom fighters are exceptional. A visit to the cells and description about the torture of the prisoners is particularly harrowing. Guided tours are available.
