It's
an
epic,
very
motivating
beautiful
statue.
When
we
visited
this
spacious,
gorgeous
place
and
saw
Monument
to
Grand
Duke
Gediminas
near
the
Vilnius
cathedral,
we
were
impressed
by
the
history
and
symbolism
of
this
sculpture.
The
monument
depicts
Gediminas,
the
founder
of
Vilnius
and
one
of
the
most
famous
rulers
of
old
Lithuania,
holding
a
sword
and
blessing
the
city.
He
is
accompanied
by
a
horse,
which
represents
his
dream
of
a
wolf
made
of
iron
(according
to
the
famous
legend)
that
inspired
him
to
build
a
new
city
on
that
hill
near
of
this
place.
The
monument
is
located
near
the
Cathedral
Bell
Tower,
The
monument
is
also
one
of
Vilnius'
talking
sculptures,
which
means
you
can
scan
a
QR
code
or
type
in
a
URL
on
your
smartphone
and
listen
to
the
sculpture
telling
you
its
story.
The
monument
is
called
Paminklas
kunigaikščiui
Gediminui
in
Lithuanian
and
it
was
unveiled
in
1996
to
commemorate
the
600th
anniversary
of
Gediminas'
death.
It
is
a
beautiful
tribute
to
the
man
who
shaped
the
destiny
of
Lithuania
and
its
capital.
