Grand Duke Gediminas is considered as the founder of the city of Vilnius. The monument is located in front of the Royal Palace and Cathedral Basilica in the very downtown of Vilnius. During the time of Gediminas, people of different ethnicities and confessions began to live in Vilnius. He is the founder of the Gediminian - Jagelonian ruling dynasty of Lithuania and later of Poland as well (till 1572)

It's an epic, very motivating beautiful statue. When we visited this spacious, gorgeous place and saw Monument to Grand Duke Gediminas near the Vilnius cathedral, we were impressed by the history and symbolism of this sculpture. The monument depicts Gediminas, the founder of Vilnius and one of the most famous rulers of old Lithuania, holding a sword and blessing the city. He is accompanied by a horse, which represents his dream of a wolf made of iron (according to the famous legend) that inspired him to build a new city on that hill near of this place. The monument is located near the Cathedral Bell Tower, The monument is also one of Vilnius' talking sculptures, which means you can scan a QR code or type in a URL on your smartphone and listen to the sculpture telling you its story. The monument is called Paminklas kunigaikščiui Gediminui in Lithuanian and it was unveiled in 1996 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Gediminas' death. It is a beautiful tribute to the man who shaped the destiny of Lithuania and its capital.

#gediminas is the founder of #trakai and #vilnius and the ruler of ancient #lithuania . Gediminas lived from 1275 to 1341, and ruled the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for 25 years. He has also moved from Trakai to Vilnius. He is also famous as a diplomat who drew the attention of Europe. The name of Vilnius was said to be a letter that Gediminas gave to Western Europe in 1323, and the year of sending the letter, 1323, is said to be the founding year of Vilnius. And around his statue, a young man is still courageous lol

The Monument to Grand Duke Gediminas in Vilnius is a stunning tribute to a historical figure who played a significant role in the founding and development of Lithuania. The statue itself is impressive, towering over visitors and capturing the grandeur and strength of the Grand Duke. Located in a beautiful park setting, the monument is a great spot to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area while also reflecting on the history and culture of Lithuania. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a picturesque spot to visit, the Monument to Grand Duke Gediminas is well worth a visit. Highly recommended!

(Translated by Google) It is located in the central place of Vilnius. On the square next to the cathedral and the characteristic Vilnius belfry and next to the Lower Castle. And at the foot of the Giedymin tower from the Upper Castle preserved on the hill. Giedymin - grandfather of the Polish King Wł. Jagiełło and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Witold. National Hero of Lithuanians and Samogitians. An ideal place both for sightseeing and for a walk. (Original) Znajduje sie w centralnym miejscu Wilna. Jagiełły i Wielkiego Księcia Litewskiego Witolda. Bohater Narodowy Litwinów i Żmudzinów. Idealne miejsce zarówno do zwiedzania jak i na spacer.

In equestrian statues, the man as a rule is mounted on the horse. Here, the ancient Lithuanian king is leading the horse.

A beautiful bronze sculpture of Grand Duke Gediminas standing in front a horse, facing the Cathedral Bell Tower. He holds a sword in his left hand and blesses the city with his right hand. The statue depicts his diplomatic nature.

The prominent sculpture dedicated to Grand Duke Gediminas, one of the most significant rulers in Lithuanian history. The statue portrays Gediminas astride a horse, a symbol of his leadership and military prowess.

Uninspired, and uninspiring, to be honest. The whole square has a bad vibe, everything seems to be off for some reason, this statue does very little to lift up the spirit of the place

The Lithuanian people are a very proud nation. Their origin story involves wolves, humen sacrifice, brave knights and shamans. They are not your average boring Christian with their nice and tidy origin story about how some priest started their nation by giving them christ, oh no. These people are pagans who fought long and hard against those holier-than-thou bishops. The statues in the compound are not very pretty, but the stories are awesome.
