Church of St. Raphael the Archangel is a Roman Catholic church located right next to the Green bridge, that connects Šnipiškės and Old Town. Former Jesuits monastery ensemble is located nearby which currently is used by the Department of Cultural Heritage of Lithuania. On 14 August 1904, the first President of the independent Lithuania Antanas Smetona married with Sofija Smetonienė in this church. It is a traditional beautiful late baroque (a.k.a. Vilnius baroque) church, which was completed in 1709. It’s currently used as such and is open to believers and visitors alike. The mass is being held in both Polish and Lithuanian languages. You can check it out before or after the mass.

The Church is a nice, quiet place. Not many tourists. Needs redecorating.

Peaceful quiet but authentic church, very close to the old town’s center which is usually open throughout the day. Not much of religious artifacts, paintings or statues-figures but if you are looking to experience original religious experiences this is the one for you. Lots of locals especially in Sunday’s morning rituals.

The church is ornate, and the choir a delight to hear, but the awful pews with fixed kneelers do not fit modern adults, and there is not enough seating, with a central aisle which is too wide. I have offered to help pay for new pews, as we have a second home (flat on a modern high rise) nearby. Holy Communion is very disorganized, with people all trying to crowd into the central aisle, rather than going forward pew by pew to the front. Polish petitioners coming to the mass after the Lithuanian mass start to come on early, trying to push out the people from the mass which is not yet finished.
