Really beautiful & scenic castle on the lake, about a 30 min each way bus trip from Vilnius (~5€ round trip). The setting is gorgeous, especially if you go on a nice sunny day (I’m sure it’s nice in winter weather also, but with little shelter to be had, I’d not personally wanna be stuck out there in the cold). I opted not to go inside the museum itself, as it’s prohibitively expensive, especially for Lithuania (~13€ for 1 adult ticket). I also hate to be a buzzkill, but the castle itself is a reconstruction from the early 1960’s, so it’s scenic & great for photos, but it’s not exactly what I’d call authentic. Worth the trip, I think, but again, more for the setting & scenery & the area’s historical significance (as a former capital & royal residence of Lithuania).

Beautiful castle, but 12 euros are too much for the items it has.

A small local museum) Its exhibitions look slightly eclectic. Some will call it provincial but still it is worth a visit. There is a nice collection of items of church utensils, very special pieces of furniture, Lithuanian, Karaim and Polish rulers' luxury goods. The guide will tell you a history of Trakai very shortly adding some details on the everyday life of Karaims and Lithuanian dukes. You will spend around an hour there. Enjoy)

Only church relics art Exposition in the chapel and in the basement. Ok for a short stop. Hopefully exposition will be expanded later.

Lovely castle and location! A nice way to delve into Lithiania's medieval past! They have done a very good job of rebuilding these ancient ruins! Worth a visit!

Behind the Museum you can go around the peninsula-castle. It's nice to visit the Park on the seaside of the walls.

Very wonderful Architecture of the castle it’s a small packed Museum. A lot of interesting and valuable items inside. Glass, ceramics, old furnitures and more stuff related to the church. I could say it’s visiting this castle. Transport tip from Vilnius Starion there is train that takes 30mins the train is running every less than an hour. The fare cost 2,80€ second class seat. You can buy the ticket either online or to the ticket counter.

It's a beautiful place to visit and if you are interested in Lithuania history, then it's a great place to study its history.

The museum right now consists only in some religious pieces and the inner courtyard of the castle. The price is very cheap but there is not much to see here. Staff don't speak english. Not recommended right now.

Was definitely worth the visit out of Vilnius. We got there early and took a short boat tour around the island too. 5 euros each which we didn't think was bad. There's a great audio tour which you can download on your phone via their app (there is a cost). Well restored and well laid out for visitors to make sure they don't miss anything. There's plenty of ways to get here from Vilnius but just before aware the trains aren't too regular and the bus might be the best option of you have a lot of time.

The castle is partly restored, rebuilt accordingly to it's previous glory. Some people think the ruins should be left as they were as it's more authentic but I must admit, it was really nice to get the impression of dimensions. The closed courtyard looks nowadays more like a prison but those days it was a peaceful place for a mighty man. The display of treasury was enjoyable but also the small town with colourful wooden houses along the lake side.

Another place in Lithuania that is totally worth a visit. Most of it was damaged during different wars, it has been reconstructed to give us an idea of it's splendour.

(Translated by Google) It is beautiful but a lot of walking on uneven stones and stairs. Only the courtyard is wheelchair accessible. Tickets are expensive too. Nice toilet in the ticket price.
