I went this morning to the Sea Food Market of Valparaiso. It was amazing!!!! Seing that, I decided to come later for lunch and choose the higher qualify restaurant. Caleta Portales is not bad.... but nothing to remind... Any average person can buy the ingredients just under the restaurant and cook something much better... Do not forget to visit the sea food market during morning!!!... my favourite visit at Valparaiso!!!!

Great place if you want great seafood, great service and great views of the ocean and Valparaiso. The waiter started us off with small pieces of fried fish "on the house" while we perused the menu. They have a short list of Peruvian-style specials on the left side of the menu, and the rest of the menu is an extensive permanent lsit of Chilean seafood favorites like caldo de congrio, machas a la parmesana, corvina, reineta, etc. The pisco sours were excellent as was all of the food. I will definitely be coming here again.

Chile is usually full of good food all around, service is another good quality in all the restaurants that we have visited so far. Unfortunately, this restaurant is the exception. We were seated right next the window with a beautiful ocean view, "but" the experience was a disaster. The steak was dry, the conger was dry, and they charge for everything separate. The service is terrible. (10 min waiting for a cup with ice). There was no friendly service at all, it looks like the waiter was upset every time we asked for something, My kids at a point asked me if they were upset with us because we were asking them for extras. If you are going to eat at Caleta Portales , please pick a different restaurant.

I don’t know why people give this place good reviews, maybe the food was better years ago. We had locos en salsa al gusto and sopa marinera (their version of paila marina) the locos were not freshly prepared as we have had at many other restaurants where they were flavorful and tender, this were dry and chewier and some were even yellowing at the edges, not very enjoyable, the soup was nothing special, it was a pretty basic tomato based broth with too much salt, it seems like those soup bases that some restaurants have ready made and can be used for any other soup, definitely not a good fresh chilean paila marina as you find in some fresh seafood markets. I guess people rate this place high because of the decor and the views which makes it look fancy (if you ignore the aging decor asking for a good clean up and the crumbly look of the façade) I would not be going back or recommending this place to anyone.

Fantastic view of the beach, very attentive service and an old boat kitschy atmosphere. Great seafood selection of course.

After exploring the fish market, my wife and I stopped here for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service, the food (try the chupe de mariscos) and the view were all wonderful. If you are in the area definitely try this restaurant.

Very nice restaurant, prices are a little high but it's worth it

Food and service were excellent.

Excellent service, good food, beautiful view on the sea. Reasonable prices and extraordinary quality per price provided. They will openly tell you what they have as fresh or frozen products for the day if you ask. A seafood soup I ordered was not up to my standards and they changed it immediately for a different dish of fresh fish, with no questions and lots of apologies. It was a lovely experience to enjoy a meal with lots of delicious and sophisticated options. The flambé desserts available for totally normal price are a very enjoyable plus.

Fresh seafood,reasonable price wines and good service

The waiters were a bit impersonal, but our server did a good job recommending a beer for me. I liked the caldillo de congrio (conger eel stew). It was flavorful with a lot of potatoes, vegetables, and eel meat, but just a little too salty.
