We had a wonderful experience at Monteros! The food was delicious, I got the chicken katsu over Ramen with Kim chee slaw and my husband had the ribeye special marinated in soy sauce served with duxelle abs he added a loaded baked potato. So good! We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and they had a cars signed by staff on the table!

I'm in E City a lot of for work and this was my time here. I've heard nothing but good things and overall they didn't disappoint. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were not only friendly but the service was quick. Almost a little too quick with the calamari. I think they could've let the oil dip a little more before plating. At the bottom of the calamari bowl was a puddle of oil that I didn't really care for. The steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I hope I have a chance to try other menu items before I head back west. Montero's is a must try restaurant if you're in Elizabeth City.

Update to my previous review... Their food is still wonderful. I decided to order to-go and was a bit disappointed that they don't open now until 5:00pm (used to be 4:00). I tried calling in my order just before 5:00 so it could be put in right when they opened. That didn't work out so well. I would still go back and recommend their establishment. Love this place! Been there twice now and the food and service were great both times. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy as well. I am not a huge fan of onions, but if you have the chance....try their onion tangles. They are a delicious appetizer. Tried their creme brulee for dessert, and it was good, but I have had better.

I was in NC for 2 days for work. My co-worker and I decided to stop here for dinner one night. From the walkway leading to the entrance all the way to the dining area I was impressed. This restaurant really makes you feel like you're visiting your family for a home cooked meal. The food was excellent. I had the scallops and risotto. The service was flawless. If I'm ever in the area again I have to visit!

It was our first visit and I made online reservations. It asks if you are celebrating any birthdays or anniversaries. We were celebrating my Sister and Brother-In-laws wedding anniversary so I added that comment to the reservations. I received a reply fairly quickly confirming the reservation. Their hours are a bit limited, so plan accordingly. We arrived and on the message board with their specials included a message that wished them a happy anniversary along with a card at the table for them. That extra step was a pleasant surprise! There was a slight hiccup about where we were going to be seated. They first seated us in an area that was going to having a large party, but then 1 minute later they moved us to one of the private rooms. The place is a bit of a maze, but we figured it out. The restaurant is nicely decorated, was very clean, including the restrooms. Service was excellent and the servers checked on us frequently. Most of our party ordered the steak special that night. It was cooked to perfection and we had plenty of leftovers. The menu has something for everyone. We will definitely be returning!

We heard about this place from some YouTube vlogs when planning our Elizabeth City/Outer Banks trip and decided to give it a try. We made a reservation on open table but people were still able to walk up and be seated within 15-30 minutes. The restaurant is set in a nice house with many rooms, including a banquet room. The menu is very extensive and includes a lot of options, including for those that are vegetarian/vegan (which is why we selected this). Our server Dawn really cared about us and made our experience fun. I ordered the summer seafood pasta and thought it was good - they had a half and full options and I selected the half as I was not super hungry. The seafood pasta had a couple pieces of shrimp, crab, and shallots with linguini pasta. It was light (and not heavy or creamy) so I enjoyed it. It also came with a side and I selected a side salad The menu has a ton of meat options as well. They’re known for their prime rib but I wasn’t super hungry to try it. Overall if you’re passing through Elizabeth City and you’re wanting a nice sit down place for lunch or dinner, add this to your list! Just note the days of the week they are closed!

Who would've thought a restaurant in Elizabeth, N.C. would have the atmosphere of an old school Chicago supper club! You want a great meal in a superb atmosphere with stellar service and that is as good as any big city restaurant go to Montero's. Salads are draped with homemade dressings in chilled plates. The assortment of the bread plate is a treat in itself. The prime rib 12oz with a sweet potato and charred asparagus was heavenly. The meat was made exactly as request served with ajus and 2 styles of horseradish. We also had the Mushroom and spinach Wellington my spouse loved it, crisp and flaky pastry with a succulent filling which was accompanied with a sauce. We are looking forward to a visit next month to share the experience with our family.

Last night was my first time dinning at Montero's. My egg allergy limits my food options at most restaurants. I was told they had MANY vegan options. The appetizer menu was FULL of options I could eat. They had a Vegan ceasar salad that I enjoyed. My entree was egg free. Dessert time..something I usually don't get to have unless I want sorbet. Many vegan choices. It was an excellent meal, in an almost empty dinning room (due to the storm) which made it special ❤️ We often go far out of town into bigger cities just so I have options but I am so glad we stayed closer to home and tried them out! I can't wait to go back and try more options.

First time eating here, came with extended family and made a reservation for 10. They sat us at a small private area with just our table and it was amazing. All of the staff were so helpful and friendly, constantly making sure we were ok and if we needed anything. I had questions about the menu and the server was super helpful and everyone loved everything we ate. Those of us that live locally will definitely be back!

My wife and I live in Virginia, but we enjoy making the 45-minute or so trip to Montero's because we have yet to have a bad experience there. I believe we have eaten there five or six times, each time getting something different. I will often lean towards the special of the day and I have never been disappointed. The food is exceptional and the prices are very reasonable. This certainly remains one of our favorite restaurants. Keep up the good work!

This place looks like it’s situated in a previous house which gives it some nice charm. The dining room itself isn’t super upscale but more casual looking with red walls and darkish wood furniture. The lighting was a bit too bright for my liking though. Our waitress was upbeat and kind. The appetizers were crab dip and deep fried cheese. They were both flavorful and satisfying. We also received bread and mini muffins which were a warm added touch. The main dish I had was the scallop risotto and it was great. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the risotto was rich tasting. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant.

My husband definitely enjoyed his steak he can cut it with a fork that’s how tender it was. He said he hasn’t had a steak like that in a long time we definitely need to come back and try other dishes. I had the scallop risotto it was pretty good. Service was awesome. Definitely one of the best places here in the heart of Elizabeth City.

If you're looking for a quick review, I'll just say "DON'T MISS OUT!" If you want the long story though, read on... I haven't been to Elizabeth City in years, so I'd never have discovered Montero's had it not been for a family event with my in-laws this evening. In short, I'm glad we did. I'll open with this, my wife and son both had the Delmonico, and I had a NY Strip. My son is 11, and doesn't eat much in one sitting, but this child not only ate an ENTIRE adult-sized steak, but spent half of the trip home talking about how good it was. My wife and I both agreed that our own steaks were the best we'd had since our favorite local steakhouse closed over a decade ago, and she's very particular about her steaks. We've been together for over 20 years, and I can't remember the last time she went through everything on her plate like that and didn't bring home leftovers. I'd like to add that these people KNOW how to run a restaurant. Their hours are limited and it definitely shows that they focus on quality of food and service over the quantity of people they can get through the door, which is a very rare thing in the world we live in now. What really stood out for me was this: I absolutely hate going to a restaurant in a large group, and by large I mean more than like 4-6 people. I was with a group of 12, so my anxiety was already pinging when we got there. I'm used to the usual chain restaurant experience of the hosts hastily slapping a few tables together in the already cramped space, then throwing the group at some poor server that's task saturated with half a dozen tables already with little more than a "oh, here's a 12 top for you, good luck!" This was NOT the experience I had at Montero's at all. When our party was called, we were taken to a HUGE room that was neatly laid out for large groups with long tables and convenient counters at either end. Rather than one or two already overworked servers, it seemed like we had a dedicated team taking care of us VERY efficiently, which I didn't realize until afterward even included the owners! All questions were answered, and more importantly, all orders were accurate and no mistakes were made. I've NEVER had a group dining experience that was this smooth and flawless, and we weren't the only large group in the room. In fact, there was a group that had to be at least three times larger than ours, and I don't think the staff missed a single beat. It was obvious throughout our visit that Andy and Karin are amazing in their field and they truly love the business they've created. I'm so happy that a place like this can still exist and thrive in the world of modern corporate chains that care more about high volume and shareholder dividends than providing a great experience for their customers. Thank you both for what you've created, and I wish you, your family, and your staff the best. I don't know when we'll be in the area again, but we will definitely make it a point to return when we do.

Excellent food and can get small portions. Lots of parking. Vast wine and drink menu. Had small portion salmon with maple syrup and pecans served over spinach.

Literally the best meal that I have ever had. Nothing else can compare to how every course was perfectly done. I'm completely ruined for other places that I used to go to because this was so incredible lol Not to mention the customer service and friendly family environment was top-notch

I cannot stress enough how AWESOME this restaurant is! I made a reservation online for my grandma's 80th bday. When we arrived, Monteros had a custom bday card for her and balloons. How thoughtful! The food was fantastic and the service was too! If you're thinking about going, GO! You won't regret it.

Road trip dinner for 8 last night. Four from va beach and four from suffolk ended up in Elizabeth City for a great meal and great friends. everyone got many appetizers and different dinners. Chris and I tried the fried calamari - cooked perfect, Chris got the small portion of salmon and i got the large prime rib. Apple pie something for us, across John got the creme Brûlée Now lets mention the Bread added to the table - OMG never had we had it so good - it was unbelievable - many types 🙂 we have been trying to get in here now for 2 weeks - very busy spot.......old home converted into a family style restaurant - Outstanding our server was a young fellow named Jalen, i think kinda new, but he did a great job, but struggled with the wine cork, had to get help from another lady and she struggled even more than he did, broke the cork, Tim at the end managed to get it out and only a few pieces of cork were left............it amazes me how so many servers struggle with this easy task.....the table clapped.

My husband and I came to Montero's after a lengthy road trip from Myrtle Beach. The food was excellent and fresh, you could taste the garden freshness in the green beans. The muffins they serve before the food were AMAZING, especially the lil carrot ones. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the grounds included. The staff is friendly, accommodating, and concerned about the happiness of their guests. We will probably stop in again before we head back to the beach!
