Very popular temple of the city. Goddess Mahalaxmi temple. I found it very surprisingly that for the Darshan ,there was fee...50 rupees, 100 rupees and 200 rupees. I mean I was thinking about the needy people don't have enough money for praying God they are going to charge. I hope some day god will ask the question,to the trustees over here. I have visited many big temples (specially in north side and I haven't found those temple are charging. So it's very surprising. I hope someday they will understand that this is about God not about business ,if people will donate by themselves you will earn more money then by getting this entry fee.

A very peaceful place for mind relaxing and for praying. Please don't spoil the place by throwing your waste papers or covers. Use dustbin which is placed outside of the temple Thank you

In my childhood I went to this temple several times. Now the temple is fully developed with many facilities. I love visiting this temple again and again. Our worship to the God is very faithful.

Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi is one of the most powerful goddess in the city. In 1912, the idol of the Goddess was found in a well and was installed in the centre of the town. But i the year 1917, the dangerous contagious disease 'Plague' spread over the town and so many deaths occurred in Visakhapatnam village. The people of Visakhapatnam were afraid of the incident and thought the devastation was due to shifting of idol of goddess 'Shri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi' and therefore, re-erected the idol to its original place, that is at the center of the road as it exists now. After the re-erection, the "Plague' disease was cured and normalcy was restored. With this, the Goddess has being celebrated fest since then.

The most satisfying thing in this Temple is we can offer our servings to the Goddess. Of course it is crowded for maximum times but when we go to the temple in the afternoon, the crowd is very less. If anyone is looking to see the mother for a long time and offer your worship and prayer, better choose afternoon times and weekdays. Mental peace and happiness is assured for sure.

I can't speak for the crowd or ticketing situation since I visited in the afternoon and found no ticket issues for darshan with less crowd. However, I noticed a lack of proper management for basic services like footwear stands. The temple is in one of Vizag's oldest neighborhoods, with narrow and disorderly roads, leaving no room for improvement or development. Devotees are allowed inside, but the place is getting spoiled as people throw plastic wrappers of Kumkum and Agarbattis near Ammavaru (see photo), which is disheartening. It would be beneficial to place a dustbin in a corner and encourage people to use it.

One of the oldest and very famous temples in Visakhapatnam. the idol of the presiding deity, Ammavari, was found in the well that was located near the fort of the then Rajas. In the year 1912, it was taken out and placed in the centre of the road.

They charge for Darshanam which I haven't seen in any temple not in tirupati too. They accept no online payments . No shoe stand no maintenance.. This place is one of tourist attraction in vizag so they are raising funds in this way I guess which is wrong they need to think about people who can't afford. Do not do business with temple please

Here in Lakshmi devi's idol one hand is cut. And it is said that the idol is found in a well. It is 1.2 km away from RK beach and is better to visit both at a time.

Awesome experience and one that is very rare in South India. A small temple for Goddess Lakshmi for over 50 years where one can make offerings work your own hands. Whether it is เฐชเฐธเฑเฐชเฑ เฐ•เฑเฐ‚เฐ•เฑเฐฎ or breaking a Coconut or drenching the Goddess in Milk - all these you can do yourself with your own hands. This is really a rarity in South Indian temples. The temple has wonderfully carved Lakshmi statues all thru the Mandapam. The government managed queue system doesn't even bother or care to display or encourage people to see them. Wish they will change the pattern to give the opportunity for the devotees too enjoy the temple and it's history. A must visit temple in Visakhapatnam area.

Unfortunately too many recommended devotees. Every employee brings friends/ relatives and simply adds them directly to darshan. We bought 100/200/300 higher ticket and waited for an hour or two but simply no use

Very popular and timely poojas and offerings will happen, devotees can offer their offerings directly to Maa Mahalakshmi. Very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere to the devotees at this temple, and a worth-visiting place. Temple open for its visitors whole day, however, the temple is closed from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM and from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM for cleaning purposes. Special darshan ticket fare is Rs.20/-. Every one must add this in their visiting list on their tour plan.

On 20 Oct 2023 morning the temple opened at 10 am only and created an unnecessary overcrowding of Devotees. I think this is purposefully creating to sell higher price tickets. Temple should open as early as possible in the morning.

This temple is very famous and located at old town visakhapatnam. The godess is very powerful and fulfill the wishes. That is the belief of localities. December is meant to be a auspicious month and temple deities and authorities will celebrate mela and poojas to godess Sri KANAKA MAHA LAKSHMI Devi .

This temple has become very commercial. I purchased 200โ‚น Darshan ticket, I was not even allowed to offer Kumkum and Haldi to the Goddess. At the same time, some VIP (so called) came in to the sanctrum, priest offered Harathi to the Goddess, but sad part is Harathi is given only to that VIP and not to anyone in the queue line. This shows the attitude of the temple authorities. I spoke to couple of officers, they asked me to complain to whomever I want.

Though the temple administration made a complete mess of the place, the deity Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Ammavaru, the presiding deity of Visakhapatnam is extremely powerful and kind. Marvellous and extraordinary temple. Utterly horrible mismanagement and completely commercial. Now that peace and happiness we used have on visiting the temple in our childhood are totally gone.

Good Darshan line management. Cleanliness and Prasadam counter space can be improved. Introduce special line based on Darshan tickets for Prasadam counters too.

Post covid the crowd is not allowed to do the abhishekam to the goddess idol. There is a grill setup in garbha gudi.. and the darshan prices are also different. Although itโ€™s a quite temple always available for free darshan.

The Temple was Good. But the hygiene and maintenance by the management & staff was very POOR. Especially in AnnaDanam, Its disgusting. We attended @ 12:45 hrs, Where as the rice was so cold, I dont know WHY ? And where 03 people can sit, The temple staff instructing to sit 04 No's which was inconvenience. Requesting Govt authorities to look into this and increase the standards.

Very reputed and popular temple in vizag. Earlier pilgrims allowed to perform self Abhishekam with milk, coconut water and other auspicious liuids. Now it is restricted only at early morning hours from 06:00am to 07:00am only. Rest of times temple staff will perform the Abhishekam. Prasadm Counter is there. Parking place recently arranged adjacent to the temple.

Parking is for 3 cars. The location on Google is wrong. It's on a narrow Street. Go close to location and ask. Better to park away and walk. Temple is great. Kumkum archanai cost 50 rupees and was done very well by the pandit. Morning is less crowded. 7.30 at temple is good time to avoid crowd. Thursday and Friday are crowded.

  • 5/5 Kasi R. 1 year ago on Google
Located in One Town Area of Vizag. Very popular Goddess. The main deity does not have roof overhead. Devotees believe that the Goddess removes obstacles in a visit. Before Carona devotees used to perform Abhishekam and Puja to idol personally. Now the personal Puja has been restricted. Devotees attending in the early morning Darshan at 6 am are allowed to do the puja. Margasira Masam is dedicated to Amma and hence the crowd will be very heavy during this month.
