Where
to
start
with
this
place?
Headline
-
the
worst
airport
that
I
have
ever
been
to.
When
we
arrived
the
border
control
staff
clearly
were
not
up
to
the
volume
of
arriving
passengers.
We
had
to
queue
(outside,
in
December)
for
an
hour.
Some
people
managed
to
jump
the
queue
a
bit
by
being
hypothermic,
the
only
way
to
make
quicker
progress.
When
we
came
to
fly
out,
we
was
queuing
chaos,
with
absolutely
no
organisation.
We
had
to
queue
to
even
reach
the
checkin
queue
(given
how
badly
designed
the
airport
is,
with
a
natural
pinch
point
blocking
the
way
to
checkin
lines
16
to
20ish).
We
then
queues
for
over
an
hours,
with
the
queue
ahead
of
us
made
up
of
only
6
groups
of
people.
Also
turns
out
that
we
weren’t
properly
checked
in
as
our
birding
passes
didn’t
work
when
we
eventually
got
to
the
gate.
We
then
braved
the
security
queue.
Due
to
congestion
they
were
only
letting
certain
flights
through,
but
communicated
this
so
poorly
that
the
entire
approach
to
the
security
entrance
was
blocked
by
people
not
able
to
enter,
so
you
couldn’t
even
get
though.
Once
through
the
entrance
it
became
an
organised
queue,
and
so
slightly
improved
from
a
rugby
scrum.
Overall
the
security
lines
was
another
hour
and
a
bit
of
queuing.
The
airport
seems
to
have
different
rules
for
the
security
screening
that
anywhere
else
I’ve
been
-
all
electronics
and
even
cables
had
to
be
separated
out
from
bags,
rather
than
just
laptops
and
iPads.
Another
way
to
slow
down
progress
it
seems.
By
this
stage
our
take
off
time
had
long
gone,
but
at
least
we
were
on
a
chartered
flight
so
we
were
OK.
The
departure
gate
was
fine
(well,
a
random
10
minutes
wait
in
a
small
area,
but
that
was
nothing
in
the
grand
scheme
of
things)
and
we
finally
boarded
the
plane
around
2
hours
after
we
were
meant
to
take
off.
Then
we
had
a
more
localised
issue,
compared
to
the
structural
one
above,
with
some
disagreement
on
the
numbers
of
under
12’s
on
the
flight,
with
dodgy
numbers
coming
from
the
airport’s
software.
This
took
about
an
hour
to
resolve,
partially
my
manually
counting
and
then
trying
to
get
the
ground
staff
to
change
their
figures.
Very
slowly.
We
then
flew
to
Manchester,
in
the
midst
of
a
strike,
and
had
a
truly,
magically,
brilliant
experience.
What
a
Christmas
Eve!
