Great place for both kids and adults. Lot of animals in a big park. Unfortunately the aquarium was closed which we were really interested in. Also it would have been better if the planetarium film was done in English.

The best zoo that I've ever been to. Alot of animals to see Any animals you can think of, are at the zoo Worth the money! Quite busy today but enough room to see the animals and walk around. Definitely recommend the gorilla, elephants, zebra and lions! Cheap lunch in the restaurant. £15.05 Meat Gyros, Chips and Drink Large Quick service Enough seating areas

It's good but lacking in some regards. There's a lot of interesting animals to be seen and it has a butterfly area also. Some animals might be MIA during some periods of the day which is a shame, just like any other zoo. It's good a good amount of public toilets and water taps, as well as benches for resting. Enjoy some of my favorite and most photogenic animals from our visit.

Amazing zoo! One of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. The variety of animals, paired with the wonderful experience of the butterfly exhibit, makes for one memorable visit that will stick with you. The layout of the zoo is done perfectly and allows for a stress free and an unrushed experience.

Quite easy to get around. You can leisurely stroll through it and take 4 hours to do it. You will be able to see most, if not all of the animals. Go early, when it is cooler weather. Get a brunch bag. They're not too expensive and you get a meal and a hot drink, as well as a cold juice.

I really liked the way these exhibits were designed. Most of them were well thought out, larger spaces for the animals. The animals did not seem stressed. The zoo staff was helpful. The planetarium video was incredibly entertaining.

Huge, wonderful escape from the city. Perfect for families. Must see in Amsterdam. If you are ready for lots of walking you will definitely enjoy it. Most areas are prepared for stroller walks. There's a few cafes and restaurants within the zoo and some of them are suitable for babies, equipped with baby chairs and changing tables. We loved it there and will be back again.

The greatest zoo I have ever been to. Tons of diversity from microscopic organisms to giant mammals and everything in between. You can buy tickets ahead of time online which lets you walk right up to the entrance. Entry fee is very cheap for what you get. It will take about 3+ hours to see everything. Tons of kid friendly activities. Highly recommend!

Excellent place, highly recommend. There is no map guide provided to visitors so you need to save photo of the maps in your phone. I recommend you to come early, there is a lot to see there. The planetarium is amazing, it’s mainly for Dutch speakers but the instructor added little explanations in English once in a while. We enjoyed it very much.

This place is amazing. There's tons of animals of all kinds and it's really well kept. Birds, big and small mammalians, reptiles, insects, and more. Even in autum/winter it's still possible to see most of them. Absolutely worth visiting if you're in Amsterdam!

This is a wonderful zoo in the middle of Amsterdam. It’s a smaller zoo so the selection of animals is a bit smaller than some, but they are also in the midst of some renovations to improve some of the animal paddocks. If you are looking for a slightly different activity from museums or touring the city this is a wonderful escape.

A nice little zoo to spend a couple hours at. The enclosures for the animals looked nice like the false gharial and the aviary. The sea lion seminar was interesting even though I do not understand Dutch. There are a couple of playgrounds as well for the kiddos. A good fun experience for all.

(Translated by Google) I was here in mid-January and I was incredibly lucky with the weather, the day was sunny and warm. There were few visitors, which added comfort. The zoo is magnificent. There is no point in telling - this must be seen with your own eyes. But it shocked me how much space was allotted to the animals, they feel very comfortable there. Must visit if you find yourself in Amsterdam (Original)

Well maintained, neat and clean zoo. I feel the price of 25 euros per person entry fee is bit too high and there should be family discount option. Otherwise, good place for kids to see and explore different animals and have fun at zoo.

This magical place is great to visit with the entire family. There is a large variety of animals that are well taken case off. Do take enough time to spend at the zoo, it is not a place you should run through. Parking is next door so easy to access.

great zoo in amsterdam city centre with a very wide range of animals and exhibits. it took us 3-4 hours to get through at a leisurely pace. the food we got from a stall inside was very reasonably priced for zoo food. we couldn’t access the aquarium though — not sure if this was due to it being closed or us just not being able to find the way there but we had a great time anyway. definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful zoo with a lot to explore! It’s big and clean and animals seems happy and relaxed. Make sure to take a map at the entrance, kids love to pick the animals they want to see and choose the way they get to them on the map. There are a few places there to eat, buy snacks and drinks. It’s a good day activity with kids.

This is an amazing place that I visit regularly with friends. Every time I see new animals and experience aesthetic satisfaction! The most important thing is that animals live on a vast territory and feel free. I recommend 👍

Simply put, visit this zoo as it’s worth your money and time. Reasons are: Amazing range of animals Very clean, well organised place Fair price (I paid student €12.50), my friend paid €25, still worth the money I’d say. Book online as tickets are cheaper Free planetarium visit included in general admission ticket price, also very cool Great range of shops and cafes throughout

First time visiting Artis. What a great experience. All of the displays paid close attention to the needs of the animals. The habitats were beautiful, lots of fresh food provided. The animals looked and acted very happy. (Even the butterflies) We also went to the planetarium restaurant and also the winkel.everyone was friendly and helpful. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Fantastic zoo! Very impressed by the range of animals and their enclosures. Lots of space for them, a dry indoor bit for when it's poor weather, which it was, for the animals to retreat to, most of which were also viewable to the public. My favourite were the gorillas! Fascinating animals! The staff were great too! Got a mini tour of the sloth enclosure from a great volunteer! Fully recommend!

The Artis Zoo is divided into four main areas: the Zoo, the Planetarium, the Botanical Gardens and the Museum of Zoology. In the huge space allocated to countless species of animals and plants, you can admire a piece of each corner of the world, as well as the habitats provided for these living things. Carefully cared for, by a very loving staff, the animals do not lack anything, they are fed and they are offered a suitable living space, imitating in proportions of 90% their natural habitat. It's a place worth visiting.

Actually the best Zoo I've ever visited! It's pretty expensive but it really worth the price. Outstanding views from every sides of the area, a lot of space for the animals, the flora is impressive and well maintained. For the record, I like to visit the Zoo of every city I go to (mostly in Europe), and by far it's the most beautiful.

The zoo in the city - a magnificent place full of history. Several locations are pretty old, and not the best in terms of animal care, simply because of lack of space. Food and beverages are quite expensive. Push chairs on loan available. Signage throughout the zoo shows where to find the animals. Older buildings have elevators. Accessible toilets. Private parking lot 200 m from the main entrance. In the zoo you find many different kind of trees, lots of bronze sculptures. It is a place with a very nice energy.

Great zoo that is set up in a way that the zoo meets museum. Even in the rain, the zoo was beautiful and fun. Their covid measures are great, but if you have any gluten free type needs, bring your own food.

I’m writing this review after my second visit to ARTIS in about a month. The place is just amazing, especially when the sun is bright outside. Not only does one get to experience the many larger and smaller animals, insects, and fish within the zoo, but there’re even some great places to grab a bite during your visit. Could easily spend 3-4 hours here without noticing.

I've been coming here for over 30 years, still amazing as always. They also have a great playground so the parents can rest for a couple minutes in between watching all the animals. All food is vegetarian. And ice-cream is mostly all natural mashed frozen fruits. No smoking zoo.

Lovely staff, very knowledgeable, clean and tidy, the grounds was like a tardis, it took about and 2hrs to get round, I would recommend to pay the €2 for a map. Plenty of different animals to see and they are also in the mist of extending and making more room.

It is not huge but big enough to explore with it's own charm! it's definitely worth the time to visit. One of the prettiest and most animal friendly Zoo I’ve ever visited. I love so much how the zoo organized animals home. feels really cozy and relaxing for them. I didn’t expect this beautiful zoo at first. My husband and I quite surprised and really enjoyed this great Zoo.

I was really impressed, so many animals I’ve never seen before! I’m normally not a huge zoo fan, but this one was really cool. Way bigger than expected and my niece loved it. Unfortunately we didn’t saw the red panda, but the rest was amazing ☺️ The butterflies were SO beautiful and the panther and jaguar very impressive.

I had a wonderful time despite the fact that there is work in progress on a few exhibits. Elephant bath time was lovely to see, the meerkats are adorable, and I loved the biodiversity of many of the enclosures. A lot of attention is paid to animal enrichment and conservation. Buy tickets online (at least half an hour in advance) for a discount.

Very nice zoo, we visited as two adults without any children and still had fun. Lots of very open enclosures that make it easy to see the animals. The vultures were especially fun. The planetarium and butterfly enclosures are really worth a visit and there are plenty of places to grab snacks within the zoo. Lots of benches to sit and rest. Buy your tickets online to save a few euros. Easy to walk to from anywhere in central.

Zoo had a lot of animals from South America. The exhibits were a little small, but all the animals were well taken care of. The grounds were very nice and kept up. We walked the whole complex (with two kids) in about 3 hours. Tickets were reasonable children are €21 each and adults are €25 each if you purchase online ahead of time. The reason for a dropped star is because everything isn't included in the cost (planetarium, and two other things can't remember).

Massive zoo, I recommend having a day for this, it’s flat, accessible for wheelchairs. The enclosures are really good, they have lots of enrichment for the animals, they are a good size. The animals are also easy to view due to the vastness/openness of their enclosures. I massively recommend going here and eating in coffee and bites beforehand! The food there is lush! This is a beautiful zoo with lots of animals to see.

Apparently, ARTIS is one of Europe’s oldest zoo and unique is that it’s situated in the middle of the city. It was very convenient to walk here as it only took us 20 minutes or so. They have many animals here. The highlight was the elephants. They were walking around and kicking a ball. There is also a play area for kids. My 6 year old daughter liked playing on it. You probably need at least two visits to appreciate everything here.

The zoo is located really in the heart of the city. Though this limite the size of the zoo itself as well as the animal exhibits, they managed to give it a very custom atmosphere found nowhere else. The zoo itself replicates the atmosphere of the city, the walking paths are bricks, most of the buildings are all clearly old and fancy full of decorations. The park is full of statues and gardens. The exhibits are well planned and excellently maintained. Each has good views from multiple sides and you feel transported the the country the animal is from when viewing. Dispite the limited space, they have a good amount of different animals to see. Overall a lovely experience to go there, especially in the morning early as it can get busy real quickly.

large zoo with a diverse range of animals. nice place to spend a few hours. we went on a Saturday morning in January and it was fairly quiet, no big crowds. some of the habitats were questionable - hard concrete floors with no top cover. some enclosures also lacked enrichment and nature - but unsure if that is because it was winter. the enclosure sizes were also quite small and were inconsistent i.e. didn't seem to take into account the size and roaming habits of the species. despite this, I can appreciate what the zoo does for conservation and endangered species, and in providing education and community engagement.

The zoo in Amsterdam was very nice. The distance between the other animals was short, so it reduced the fatigue of watching. and If you book a ticket in advance on the website, you can book it for 4 euros cheaper.

Went in without any expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. The zoo was way bigger than I expected, with a lot to look at with a pleasant look and feel overall. Recommended for a good afternoon to get away from the city, within the city.

We booked this on a whim and it ended up being one of the best highlights of the trip! Didn’t know what to expect and thought it would only be a small zoo but we spent all day (9:00-17:00) here. Saw a wide range of animals and loved every minute

It’s a great zoo to visit with kids from all ages. A bit hard to get a good service from help desk since they have a very bad IT. Also don’t forget to make a reservation before going.

  • 4/5 Mark P. 3 years ago on Google
The enclosures are not very big but very accessible. We could spot almost all animals and they are really used to having people around. Some of the indoor enclosures can not be accessed due to corona measures. Also some routes are only one way and even prevent you from going back to that section. Most enclosures are fairly clean and there is lots to be seen. A very nice aquarium section and a very warm building dedicated to reptiles. We did see multiple separate enclosures with the same reptiles. From the zoo you can see the surrounding city which is a very interesting combination. For the fact that the zoo is in the city it's remarkably green. Parking is relatively expensive but is it directly next to the entrance.

Great place, my family and I have been a fan of this place since the first time we went. We will continue to support and encourage others to enjoy it's beauty. I love the never ending turns of something new to see. And the occasional realization that we're in the middle of the city, which is amazing. My experience this last trip was great. I can't lie it was warm and that made some places miserably warm but hey that's part of the beauty of it. And of course there are people who cannot pay attention to the rules and read directions during this covid-19 crisis, but the park is well stocked with hand sanitizer stations and washing stations, they also have extra staff in parts of the park to encourage the following of rules and designated walking routes. Overall I was extremely pleased with my experience and my family had a great day. Thank you for a great memory!

Loved it here! Favourite part is the monkeys of course :) you get to enter their enclosure and stand right next to them as they climb about and eat. They also have a large variety of birds throughout the park, in enclosures or not - Herons and other wild birds thrive here, including green parakeets. All the animals seem very happy and have very creative enclosures which often means you can get closer and see them better. Catching the Lions feeding was the coolest thing! Definitely worth going, I'll be visiting again :)

I took my niece and nephew to Artist. They all loved it. It was perfectly arranged but 1 thing that bothered us was that no one could point out where toilets were or which ones wereopen for public. Every staff we asked, gave us different direction and having a children with you that can't hold them self made it hard and was a bit annoying to run around to find a restroom. So perhaps they should inform the staff wich toilets are open but we still had a great time and will definitely visit artist again.

A very large, well-kept zoo. A lot of places without barriers. Open frames. The lemur ran over my legs. Animals are not stressed (only the Chimps are not very active). I did not like a few things. The catwalk for Lviv is very small. Comparable to the range of two crocodiles. Insects very badly exposed. Some do not see - steaming water on the glass. Quite a few restaurants, places to sit in the whole garden with plants. You can have your own breakfast at the table. The prices are very expensive. Drink 250 ml - 3 euros. Small fries - 5 euros. In the planetarium, the film is displayed only in Dutch, completely ignorant of English-speaking tourists. Access to the toilet is free. Very much. You can not smoke in the terrarium of the whole zoo. This is a very big obstacle - you need 5-6 hours to visit the whole zoo without a hurry. I recommend it anyway!

Done the evening walk in Artis (zoo). It was quiet interesting, and about nature around us and in the zoo and the city of Amsterdam. You download an app of Artis and with your phone and earset you walk through and around the zoo and will discover a lot of things wich you don't notice during daytime. Its really nice. All animals you still can visite during this walk. It's really enjoyeble and really recommendable. Although Dutch wetter isn't always relyable (it was raining and lightning) we enjoyed it a lot 😉 an umbrella or poncho you can buy at the zoo shop 😁

Doesn't look impressive from the outside - but wow is this place big! Large range of animals: pandas, lizards, sloths, Spiders and more - all set within an urban environment. Visit this place without a second thought - one of the best zoos I have ever seen and will definitely be back!

Artis was weer erg leuk.

They survived! It's such a pleasure having this amazing space in Amsterdam. Its beautiful and they really try and give the animals the best care they can. The staff REALLY care about all the creatures there. It's amazing for kids! Lots of grassy spaces for kids to run. Cafe's for coffee, cakes, burgers and vegan options. And there's always a corner you haven't seen before!

It was really nice to go back to Artis. We had to buy the tickets online to make the entrance faster. You also get a time slot to enter, so you don't have to wait in long lines. The aquarium is close doe to renovation. The rest of the things are open.

  • 4/5 Silvijn de V. 2 years ago on Google
No online app / map. Only noticed signs about a park route after having seen half the park. Isn't as densely packed as other parks, makes it actually feel like a park instead of just an arrangement of animals. Friendly staff spontaneously started talking to us about their edible gardens, she clearly had a love for her job. Overall can highly recommend for a casual zoo experience.

Amazing experience. Bought the tickets on beforehand, so entry was very nice. Inside there is signage where you can go, so it's either specific animals or you do the Artis walk. I personally did all the animals, so the Artis Walk, this walk takes you around the whole park. You see every single animal and the animals seemed very 'active and alive', have a good living environment. Also there is place for children to do activities. Personally my favorite was the Savannah, with wildlife animals. I will visit again!

An awesome zoo, in the city. The animals are very clearly visible and beautiful habitat has been made for the animals. Car parking is available but I wasn't able to avail €15 parking even after talking at the zoo counter. Special mention for the lion cage, birds and wolves.

Very nice zoo, but I have doubt about the quality of life of some species ( gorilla, lions, elephant, pinguin) the enclosure are very small and the temperature is not adapted to the species. The elephant keep "dancing" even when there is no one that look at him, I think he is traumatized by something in his past (circus). However the reptile and insects are very interesting and are well treated.

This is a very nice Zoo! Well kept plant borders and playing lawns, nice collection of animals. Enough room for sitting and places to buy a snack, drink or ice cream. We had a great time and were really impressed! Top of our list of Zoo's.. The only real tip I can give (not particular to only this Zoo): please clean your viewing windows continuously.. Not only for viewing pleasure but also looking at it from a hygiene perspective nowadays.. (and yes, I know it is very unrewarding to do so, seeing it is undone in a heartbeat by the visitors. Look at it as cleaning the toilets at regular hourly intervals..)

The Butterfly Pavilion is my favourite place on Earth. I love going there to sit and watch the butterflies: pure therapy. ARTIS is a great place for kids and also for adults, plenty to see even if it’s a rainy and cold day. We love it.

If you are on a trip to Amsterdam, this is a must visit place! Tickets can to be booked online. You can get kids trolleys for an additional charge of 0.5 euro, free access to toilets inside. There's also a map guide, small cafeteria to get coffee, juice and snacks. All the animals, birds look healthy and you can see zoo keepers feeding them. Could see lions, elephants, giraffe, zebras, monkeys, fox, penguins, reptiles, birds, insects too..can easily spend a minimum of 2-3 hours.

It was an awesome place. Kids will love it, the weather was perfect. You can’t imagine the amount of space that is allotted to the zoo in the heart of the city. You have many eateries inside and we loved the nachos and soup from one of the eateries. Do not miss the sea lion atrium and place that is specially built for butterflies. It’s beautifully built and very well utilized in terms of space. In every zoo that I had been to, giraffe 🦒 and zebra 🦓 are always together, can someone comment below if you know what could be the reason.

We really enjoyed our zoo visit. Not on the scale of London Zoo (we spent about 2-3 hours looking around) but a lovely park setting and not too busy when we visited mid-afternoon. Plenty of cafés, seats, picnic spots and a super children's play area. Equally good for families or adults. Not cheap at 25€ per adult, but well worth it.

One of the most enjoyable zoos in Europe. It is a really beautiful zoo but when it comes to the exhibits but also the park itself. It is clear that a lot of care had been put into the park. Lots of animals to see and lots of variety. The zoo might be a little difficult to navigate. I would have liked some more maps around the park. But besides that it was a very enjoyable visit. Expect to use about 3-5 hours here.

The animal variety is nice and the overall design of the space that is available is interesting but you can see the limited space which is available im amsterdam and maybe some animals looked like they could get a bit more space (The crocodiles and lions) The staff at the entry seems a bit unorganised and even there were literally 1 other person in the que with is this day we waited almost 10 minutes to buy the tickets and went into the zoo. On the other hand it seemed like the other guest was a bit difficult to handle and it was a bigger topic to solve there so can happen. It was a pitty that some things are under construction so you didnt have the full experience and we still had to pay full price The price for the zoo, and variety is average compared to other zoos. -25 € pP for artis 14ha size 8200 animal -23.50 for berlin zoo 35 ha size 20.000 animals -25.50 burgers zoo 45 ha size 3000 animals -21.50 (10.00 euro late ticket)Zoom zoo germany 30ha 900 animals

A wonderful time with family. We had spent almost 4 hours there which was worthwhile. Coming from India, it was a life long dream to see live penguins and so many of them!!!! We also got a show of sea lions. The butterfly garden was also great. The lion, the jaguar, the leopard. So many wild creatures just within a few yards of your self. My daughter definitely made some great memories to take back with her. Only regret was not visiting the planetarium, but will definitely be covered in the next visit. Keep up the brilliant work..

Nice little zoo to spend a morning or afternoon at. It isn't huge and doesn't have the largest variety of animals you'll have ever seen - but as a few have already said - it just feels a nice place to be, for both the animals and visitors. The nature and natural spots are beautiful to walk around in too - a pleasant change from the cityscape. Heard the planetarium is good, with different shows alternating throughout the day, but didn't go in during our visit. It's not too expensive, food prices are what you'd expect - and walkable from the city centre.

Really cool Zoo in the middle of the city. A must visit for leisurely walk with your toddlers and helping them learn about all species of animals, insects and birds. Recommend taking 3-5hrs for full coverage and spending enough time at all areas.

This Zoo is a museum in itself. If you plan to see the whole zoo, planetarium and one of the additional museums, you should plan to spend around 6 hours there. With 185 years of being open to the public it has some beautiful architecture and a quaint layout.

A truly beautiful zoo, we've Been to so many in the UK and rated just about all of them, and tbh from the size of this place on maps, it doesn't look all that big, forget that thought though as this place is plenty big enough, the enclosures more than sufficient, all the animals looked so very well looked after, the area was clean and well presented too! We are so glad to visit here and suggest you do the same! It's amazing here.

This zoo was nice with a good variety of animals to see. The spaces for the animals were a little smaller than you might like to see but the zoo were working on some new enclosures when we were there. The food was completely vegetarian and I have to say was very tasty. This is a great place for families.

A fun destination to visit in Amsterdam. Most animals seemed to be enjoying themselves when we stopped by, their antics quite hilarious and adorable. The giraffes and big buffalos were quite awe-inspiring. I was excited about the penguins, but they were the small type. The sea lions and otters were very cute. The elephants somehow looked sad to me. If you want a good view of the flamingos, it's right after you exit the zoo.

Enjoyed our visit to the compact, well organised zoo in the heart of Amsterdam with our teenage children. Some unique exhibits and animals to see. We spent around 1.5hrs YMMV. We have been to many zoos and were planning to give it a miss but pleased we didn’t.

Well worth the cost and the visit if you’re staying in Amsterdam, the botanical gardens, butterfly exhibit and the zoo itself are wonderful attractions and educational. Really enjoyed my time going through the whole park on a nice sunny day. Students get a small discount which helps!

A nice place to go while in Amsterdam! Just a warning, all the inside enclosures are pretty hot so be careful. I went around 11:45 and left at 15:00. It seemed pretty busy as we were leaving so I would recommend getting there earlier in the day.

Really enjoyed our visit here. Seen some species of birds I hadn't seen before. Even seen a sloth very close up as it climbed across one of the branches above us. Very nice park to walk round as well. Would recommend a visit here and buying tickets online for very easy entry. We tried out the cheese toastie at the cafe too which was very good.

Most incredible zoo we've ever been to. It started to rain a bit, and we didn't get a chance to hit any of the surrounding museums or the planetarium, but the animal enclosures are so fascinating, we didn't mind. You are so close to the animals, it's a wonder they don't hop the little wooden fence. Absolutely incredible experience. We had a little pick-me-up at one of the food stands, was expecting zoo-quality food. Not some ridiculously moist muffin and an apple turnover that was still warm. They did forget to make my coffee but it's alright. Was unbelievable, 10/10

It's a gorgeous zoo, but a couple of the enclosures seem really small. We felt a bit sad for some of the animals after our visit. The butterfly house was really nice, though.

Booked online before our holiday. Big place. Was disappointed that the aquarium was closed as we were looking forward to that bit as we are fish keepers. Artis from planet sock is very cute. Love his teapot rocket. I enjoyed the Planetarium show but couldn't understand a world they were saying as it was in Dutch. But the animation was cute. I love how they are growing their own veg. Beautiful flower gardens.

Lovely zoo, I would even go as far as to say much better than the London zoo. Some of the animals are free roaming, some only visible from afar but still the exposition is great and you can tell they’re all treated with great care. The planetarium is also a great part of the experience and worth a visit. Definitely you can easily spend there a whole day.

  • 5/5 Chris W. 8 months ago on Google
Such an amazing zoo! The habitats are so well designed that you feel like you can actually see the entire space and have a good chance of seeing animals. They are not hidden off in the distance or behind a huge fence like most zoos. They use water and natural features to keep the separation. The bridge between the elephants and giraffes is beyond cool! The same goes for the restaurant and kids playground that feel like you're basically in the habitat. The animals all looked lively and healthy and we lucked out seeing almost every animal awake (went at 10am, weekday, during august).

  • 5/5 Lee W. 7 months ago on Google
One of the nicest zoo's we have been to, just as good as Berlin, Hamburg if not better, very clean and tidy with a good array of animals, plenty of places to sit down and relax or have a coffee. The only minus was that the aquarium was closed for renovation and will not open until 2025. But would recommend if in Amsterdam, never expected to see a zoo in the middle of Amsterdam.

  • 5/5 Jake Alexander M. 8 months ago on Google
Artis Zoo is one of my favourite zoos simply because of how big the place is. There are many animals and plants to see, and it's nice to know that they have carefully thought about each animal and its needs to ensure they aren't being neglected. I've visited this zoo several times, and it seems to improve each time I am there. What I do is I book the tickets online so I can show the staff when entering and avoid the queue that can get quite busy in the morning. There is a handy tram stop outside the entrance, but it is also very walkable from the city centre. When you enter, there's a lovely gift shop on the right and a cafe on the left attached to a planetarium. In all my time visiting, I've yet to try the planetarium, but from what I have seen, it looks like an excellent-quality planetarium. On our last visit, I did purchase the extra add-on for a photographer to take pictures of us, and we had a lovely experience going through the different sections of the zoo to have our photos taken. The cafe there was lovely, but it was a bit pricy, which is to be expected in a zoo setting. Every time I visit Amsterdam, I make sure to visit the zoo, it's a nice relaxing place where you can walk at your own pace, and it is accessible for all disabilities; for example, they have flat areas for wheelchairs, and there is plenty of staff to ask for assistance. There are also accessible toilets throughout the zoo and plenty of park benches. The only suggestion I have is for the farthest side of the zoo to be clear on how to exit the park because, at times, it can feel like a maze, and especially with the naturalistic theme, there aren't as many lights, and it can be dark. Otherwise, I give this place five stars and cannot wait for my next visit.

AMAZING ZOO!! the animals have plenty of space and liberty to show up to visitors or not. most of the animals have an indoor and outdoor enclosure i visited back in February and the animals that are natural to hot weather had the option to stay in their warm habitat or come out to take a walk in the cold and see the visitors. truly 5 stars.

Artis was such a beautiful and well maintained zoo. Some of the grounds which I’ve captured below are just beautiful and they had a fairly wide selection of animals in comparison to the zoos I have been to. I also spoke to a lovely woman who worked there that let me know about the new lion enclosure that had just been built which was nice to see. I think one of the highlights for me were the elephants who were playing in the morning when I got there. Would definitely recommend Artis to both adults and children.

As ever (with any tourist attraction), we arrived just after opening and it got much busier as we were leaving. Not every zoo is blessed with the wide open paddocks of my 'home' zoo (Chester). This is a very traditional zoo (akin to London Zoo) where the 'style' is more obvious than the enclosure spaces. The enclosure space was probably not as bad as I am making out here though. Going round fairly slowly, we (2 adults) took about 1.5 hours to complete our circuit. I think the Lions were shut, which was not the case on my previous visit (a few years ago). We could not face the insect house or butterflies. The coffee in the cafe nearest the entrance was reasonable for coffee, but compared to English zoos, the gift shop was poor. I was looking for either something novel that had been handcrafted or at least a 'proper' souvenir... meaning something with Amsterdam Zoo stamped on it. Generic animal cuddly toys just did not cut it for me. I will be going back and would reccommend it as a visit, especially if you have younger kids. The area the zoo is in is pricey to stay (Air bnb/hotels) but had a nice feel to it.

An excellent zoo: spacious, friendly, and a wonderful selection of happy-looking animals. It was great to see how much room they had to exist in, a rarity in city zoos. Highlights were the sea lions during feeding time, and the wonderful new lion enclosure.

Nice place - would recommend going earlier in the day as I went at the 4pm timeslot and only had an hour before security started emptying the park. A lot of exhibits are accessible inside as well as outside so is alright on a rainy day, although I did feel like I missed a lot of animals because of the weather.

I love this place, I've been about 4 times. It's not very big but for a city as busy as amsterdam to find a spot of beauty like this is incredible. It's clean, well maintained and the animals are great. The aquarium is shut for renovation but I'm sure that place will be as beautiful as ever once it's done.

This zoo ranks high on our list, place was easy to navigate and not so tiring for the little ones. Plenty of warm places to duck into just in case it gets cold. If you have little ones, suggest having coins for children’s cart if you don’t have a stroller (2 euros). I also got their brunch bag which my child enjoyed because he thought it was his prize after finding most of the animals in the zoo! Recommend to go early when the animals are up and about. Staff is super nice, got a bit of mix-up with our tickets and the friendly guy at the counter, I believe his name was Hidde, fixed it right up!
