(Translated by Google) The oldest fountain in Moscow was created in 1827 in the 19th century, in the morning queues of water carriers and water carriers lined up to it. Local residents came here with tubs and buckets, they also watered the horses. Later, they decided to decorate the fountain, which was created by the Russian sculptor of Italian origin Giovanni Vitali. Better known as Ivan Petrovich Vitali. From this fountain he began his creative career. love for fountains and howling from the age of 12, when he first visited the workshop of the St. Petersburg foundry worker V. Ekimov, he saw firsthand how the Great Master cast statues for Peterhof. Later, he achieved such success in his work that he became an academician and professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts. His no less famous buildings: the Chariot of Glory and the relief "Liberation of Moscow" for the Triumphal Gates in Moscow, a monument to Paul 1, a bust of K. Bryullov in the Hermitage, The statue of Venus in the Russian Museum is still pleasing to everyone. The fountain has the inscription "Sculpted and made into metal by Ivan Vitali. Moscow, 1835". The design of the fountain is somewhat reminiscent of the famous Lobnoe Mesto (a monument of ancient Russian architecture on Red Square). The fact is that the bowl of the fountain is erected on a massive granite base and this picture, from the side, gives rise to such comparisons. The history of the creation of the fountain goes back to the 18th century. Moscow rivers were so dirty that drinking water from them was life-threatening. Therefore, at the turn of the 18-19 centuries, By the decree of Catherine II, the construction of the Mytishchi self-diverting water pipeline began according to the project of engineer F. Bauer. In 1804, the construction was completed. Through the system of brick galleries and aqueducts, drinking water was delivered to Moscow from the Upper Yauza River, in the vicinity of the village of Bolshiye Mytishchi. , it was very troublesome to deliver water, and for this reason, water-folding fountains were arranged. From them, Muscovites began to collect clean water for drinking. The Petrovsky (as it was called earlier) fountain on the modern Teatralnaya Square (earlier it was called Petrovskaya) could give citizens 17 thousand buckets of water a day and also served the debt prison and baths of the merchant Chelyshaa (now in their place is the Metropol hotel) through special outlets. Water was taken from the large bowl of the fountain for drinking and household needs. And the bowls below were intended for horses. 20th century, in Moscow they decided They began to dismantle the water fountains, but they decided to leave the Petrovsky fountains for decorative purposes. The lucky fountain is fanned with legends. One of them says that it was not saved by chance. Supposedly, in the Soviet years, the entrance to the secret Moscow metro was equipped under it. There are so many legends and conjectures about this metro. Despite the myths and speculations, it turned out to be a very impressive decoration of the city. The four putti cupids continue to embody tragedy, comedy, poetry and music ... Do not forget what is nearby. Although the little angels with wings have been holding for many years a rather large bowl with a rushing stream of water, they are not at all tired. True, so and not "learned to wash" ... "They are washed once a week by" fountain caretakers ". By the way, initially this interesting sculpture by Vitali looked like a palm tree. When the jets of water rose along the "trunk" and then "dived" down, they resembled spread leaves. 1995, The fountain was reconstructed and equipped with winter LED lighting (at that time, this was done for the first time in Moscow). The fountain, in Soviet times, was a favorite meeting place for veterans of the Great Patriotic War. By the way, people used to call it by the name of its creator. Everyone who "knows and loves" this wonderful fountain has taken root and liked it. There are a lot of fountains in the capital, and there will be even more (as the city authorities say). are beautiful, attractive and have their own idea and idea. Undoubtedly, the Vitali Fountain is a worthy representative of the large Moscow "fountain family".

Vitali Fountain is a large scale monumental fountain at Revolutionary Square in Moscow. It is situated not far from the Karl Marx Monument and is worth a look-see if you intend to pass through the area. The fountain is classical in appearance with a two small basins at the top with water spouting upward and spilling over into larger basin on the ground. The pedestal at the top is surrounded with an allegory of figures. Overall, Vitali is a pretty fair fountain. Give it a quick look and then continue onward with intended sightseeing endeavours.

(Translated by Google) A fountain on a pedestal, which is somewhat similar to the place of execution, with two circular steps. Built by the Russian Italian Giovanni (Ivan) Vitali in 1835. They called it Petrovsky, because the Imperial Theater was also Petrovsky. Apart from aesthetic pleasure, he served purely everyday needs. At the bottom of the pedestal there are branches for drinking horses and from here the water went to the baths of the merchant Chelyshev (now Metropol) and to the debt prison. Now old Bolsheviks and no less old pioneers like to gather here.

(Translated by Google) Nice, quiet and only the noise of the fountain. Someone stops and takes a selfie. A tourist group came up. The fountain listens and absorbs everything. There are benches around where you can sit and enjoy the glitter of Vitali's fountain. The oldest of the operating fountains in Moscow, located in the park on Theater Square. The fountain was completed in 1835. designed by Russian sculptor of Italian origin Giovanni Vitali. At first it was called the Petrovsky Fountain - after Petrovsky Square (the old name of the Theater), but among the people they used to call it by the name of the creator. Initially, the Vitali fountain was conceived as a water-folding fountain: it was intended to deliver drinking water to the population. From the large bowl of the fountain, water was collected for drinking and domestic needs, and additional bowls at the bottom of the base were intended for watering horses. Urban legends say that the Vitali fountain was preserved for a reason: in the Soviet years, the entrance to the secret Metro-2 was supposedly arranged under it, which saved it from dismantling.
