Massive man made radar structure you could witness. the shear height and magnitude of the structure will make you go wow... the steel truss, its connection and the cantilever potion supporting the radar is amazing and great feat of engineering. The beauty is that the structure is standing tall been through all the test of times, weather etc. Soviet structural engineering at its best as its the beast of all. The structure is entirely steel radar capable of detecting enemy incoming missiles.

Hidden away in cold War days. Not even on a map but chernobyl 2 has one off its five listening stations left. The size is mind boggling. If approached back in the day uninvited you would have been shot on sight. Still some very high radiation hot spots can be found here even though they have removed 1000's tonnes off sand and replaced it. Gives you great phone signal as well as got be biggest receiver in world from days off old . Another must do visit as part off any chernobyl tour.

The Duga (over the horizon) radar, also know as the Russian Woodpecker, due to the interference noises it made on some receivers. Great to see this massive structure up close, guide was very informative on its uses and history of the structure. Definitely worth stopping off at, so make sure your tour operator includes this in the itinerary, as you will be disappointed if you do not see this structure on your trip in Chernobyl!

Back to cold war time...If you visit the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone don't miss Duga-1 - a 10MW soviets radar system so powerful -150m high x 750m long - that in the 80s' it disrupted legitimate broadcasts, radio operations, oceanic commercial aviation communications, utility transmissions... very impressive

An old military base hidden in the forest. It was masked as a kids summer camp. Costed billions to build and never actually worked. Interesting place to see.

Wasn't expecting to see this installation when we went on a tour of the exclusion zone with go2chernobyl but it is such an impressive sight we're really glad we did. We were in a small group so had the place to ourselves. The sound of the wind through the structure was really atmospheric. Photos simply don't do justice to the sheer scale of this structure.

This place came almost as a surprise to mee, thought it was going to be a boring thing, but when I saw the "big guy" I thought this is something special. Almost more to see here than in Pripyat.
