I’d give this place a zero if I could. I walked in today with my sons medical assistance dog, my son and my husband. I entered first and the place smelled like old cigarettes, stale alcohol and desperation. I turned to my husband to signal to him that maybe we should find somewhere less depressing but before I could do anything the harsh looking bar tender said to me “you can’t bring that in here”. I hoped to high heaven she was talking about the medical assistance dog rather than my disabled son. I calmly said “the dog is a medical assistance dog and under NZ law he is actually allowed in here. She stated that she didn’t care and he wasn’t allowed in. I said she was breaking the law. She reiterated she didn’t care and her boss that wasn’t there would agree with her. I told her I would leave a review so here it is.

A cosy and warm tavern with a very friendly and attentive bar tender. Glen makes everyone feel welcome and happily shows interest in his patrons. Fire was roaring and the food was delish. We ordered Surf and Turf along Smoked Chicken with Bacon and Crispy Noodles. Both dishes were scrumptious. Complements to the chefs!

Everyone was happy with their food so all was good good old nostalgic pub to visit.

We decided to stop off at Huapai Tavern for lunch on our way home from a night away, as it being Our 3 year wedding anniversary. THE STAFF: A+++ Friendly welcome at entry, Awesome Service, comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Big ups to the Chef & helping hands Seafood Chowder/Garlic bread & Crumbed Scallop meal was absolutely filling and so tasty, loved it! Quick to remedy our unfortunate mishap, as another patron stole our $20 from our machine in the gaming room, even though they didnt have too, much appreciated their hospitality and generous act. Thank you for a memorable time that's for sure! We will be back!

A group of us Seen a band here yesterday, great band actually Dire striaights tribute band. We took our dog, border collie, asked the lady at the door if we could go outside to the courtyard with the dog and she said yes. We parked the dog up up at our feet at an outside table with us we , ordered a drink and some chips. A old lady who worked there spotted the dog and said you have to leave no dogs allowed, we were like ok but we asked if she could come in and the bar lady said yes, the old agressive lady NO DOGS you need to LEAVE NOW!!! I said, well hold on we just got a drink and food can we finish up our drinks and take the dog home then? NO YOU HAVE TO GO NOW, and stormed off! So then another woman came out and read the riot act but did allow us to finish up drinks and leave, which we did. My dog was perfectly behaved their was no need for all this agression fair enough if thats your policy however make sure all your staff know about it perhaps, and yi know their is a way to talk to your customers. We take our dog everywhere and pubs are always welcoming of well behaved dogs in outdoor areas. The band finished at 6pm, then the staff put these lights on that were as bright as the sun shining into the patio tables where we were sitting, we asked if she could turn them off she said NO and don't bloody turn them back on! LOL. Huapai, you could of got another couple of hours of dinner service from this crowd who were relaxed and happy. Shocking way to treat customers

Good cheap pub grub, great breakfasts available on Sundays from just $12. Staff always friendly. Nice outdoor seating area.

One of the friendliest bars I've ever been in on my travels around the world. Staff were nice and good at their job. The owner was a lovely lady. The place was clean and served excellent food. I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone passing through Huapai.

Steak was beautifully prepared. Great range of drinks. Perfect setup inside - if you want to be close to the action, sit outside, sit more private... This tavern has everything, including great locals!!

Feels like home! Great food with great service. Kids friendly- only $12 for a great amount of good food and plus, free ice cream sandwich for dessert. The kids had the best day ever!

This tavern is amazing. The proprietor is very helpful with any requests, the food is awesome and staff are lovely. Such a great atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is plenty of parking and you are made very welcome when you arrive. Would highly recommend this tavern. 🙂

Food and service were on point! Stopped in a couple of times for dinner over the past couple of weeks with work mates and have left happy both times. I enjoyed the Surf & turf, while the others raved about the burgers, seafood chowder, pork belly bites etc. The fireplace was super inviting and kept the place nice and warm on the cold winter nights.

The food is awesome. There are new chefs and the pork belly bites are perhaps the best thing I've eaten at a pub in years. Great bands, great hospitality, awesome dumplings. Recommend!

Always a great atmosphere, good food and well priced drinks. Could do with staying open a bit later on weekends.

Sunday just gone was first time back since COVID - now we can understand what we have been missing. Place was jam-packed and rocking to a great band, atmosphere totally friendly and welcoming. Can't wait (till next Sunday) to do it all again.

Went for lunch and got lots of food at once and it was very busy as there was a band due to play. Was ready within 20 minutes and it was piping hot and delicious. Would highly recommend.

A proper pub with plastic seats and cold beer. Bonus beautiful garden you can drink in. Decent Guinness, ashtrays laid out on every table in the smoking area.

A excellent example of our north west taverns , Food is great aswelll as the service , 😋.

We were seated outside the tavern the whole time we were there and were abruptly cut off by a bartender without prior warning for "being too loud." It was allegedly a customer complaint, but we were not convinced as we were the only group of a darker skin tone than the rest who frequented the bar that day.

There are Great staff and such a friendly place to go. Had an awesome live band on a Sunday afternoon. Really enjoyed it and it was packed. Very nice food as well. Will go back again. 😁💯💫🌼

I like this bar the food is so good i come here every Tuesday with my Dad. but I'm child I get apple juice. Dad likes beer. Thomas boy 👦.

Was living in Auckland for over 30 years. But now live in the Naki.... So was my first visit. Lovely vibe. Friendly people and staff. Only stayed for one beer. And didn't have a meal. So hence the 4 stars.

Always a good place to have good food, a beer, fun, and bands come often to play.

Nice beer garden. But the food was awesome. It was cheap tasty and very filling. Highly recommend. We will be back.

We had a very nice lunch and drinks. Kid's menu for grandson. Garden bar was clean and tidy lots of flowers in the well kept garden.

Great pub meals, burgers are awesome, highly recommend the works burger. The pub does show it's age, dating back to when smoking indoors was a thing, so there is still the lingering odour of ciggies, but the beer is cold and the food is good, so I can ignore that
