Also known as spider house, since every window has 30 spiders living on it... Actually a really cool place, and a really nice walk to get there. Not an easy or short walk, but worth it. Great views of the harbor and the lighthouse. You might even get to see a seagull eating a starfish...... and a lot of spiders.

It’s a longer walk than I expected. We went at night so a flashlight would be a good idea. You get about halfway and it feels like it’s never ending both ways. The views are gorgeous though! If Rockland does fireworks- definitely go here to watch them. The ground/ trail is super uneven so I wouldn’t recommend it for people with difficulty walking/ stability or for young kids. There are large cracks that could easily cause an ankle sprain at the least.

Nice walk down the jetty. It’s relatively smooth, but no where near wheelchair or stroller friendly. It was at least a mile down the path one way and you can’t do much once you get there except look around. The boats are nice and the breeze was good. I can’t figure out where people go to the bathroom when they are out at places like this. There was zero facilities anywhere near here. I hope you can hold it!

Mile long walk to the lighthouse. Pretty easy going, just pay attention to cracks in between rocks. Can walk all around lighthouse, no access inside. Recommend using restroom before heading out as there is none once you get out there. If your lucky, you'll see sailboats and gulls and cormorants. Not the most photogenic of lighthouses unless you have someone with a boat. Dog friendly.

This is an interesting place. You can certainly enjoy the view of the bay from shore. But if you feel like a little exercise then you can walk the 4000ft breakwater and get a close up view. It’s flat but made of large granite that is loosely fitted together so caution is important to avoid missteps.

Great easy walk but you do need to watch your step. I wouldn't want to take a child learning to walk here but people did it. Wish we had brought the water pack for the dog. As mentioned in other reviews there are no bathrooms or water fountains at the lighthouse so take care of your needs before you start your journey.

An almost deceptively long walk all the way to the lighthouse, but fun regardless. The rocks are large, uneven, and gapped, so it isn’t a gentle walk. The lighthouse at the end is actually better viewed on the way than when you arrive at the end. Great views of the surrounding area throughout the walk.

By far the Mrs. and I loved this lighthouse. It also has thr unique route to get out to it. Be mindful the path is very level, but there are gaps between the rocks, so no walking and gawking. As long as you watch your step, you can make it to the lighthouse. Honestly, an amazing lighthouse and construction story, we could not recommend this one enough!

The walk over the breakwater was long and started out somewhat challenging for some with large gaps between the stone blocks but improved as spacing became more uniform. The view of the water, birds, boats, and lighthouse were well worth the effort.

So glad we made a spontaneous visit to this place. What a great walk! It was unique and a lot of fun. Got drenched in a downpour on the way back, but that made it even more memorable. It is 2 miles from parking lot to lighthouse and back.

Short walk on a path near the water to get to the breakwater, which is composed of HUGE rocks. It was cool to walk along it. Lots of seagulls too. We were there at low tide so can’t speak to high tide. This was a spur of the moment decision an so glad we went.

The Rockland Breakwater is one of those places you have to see if you live in Maine. Situated near the working harbor and the gated Samoset Resort the Breakwater has neat ocean views but no real beach. This is an engineering wonder, not a natural one, and is worth seeing. The Breakwater is crazy long and not for the timid. The lighthouse itself is small but pretty and manned by great volunteers. There is a suggested donation for the tour, but no set fee. This is a great short outing for kids and a common first date for locals. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

No bathrooms available. Dog friendly. Plastic poop bags available at park entrance. This place is not wheelchair or walker friendly. There was plenty of parking, although the area was in rough shape and our low riding car couldn't park on the slope without hitting. The walk is long and beautiful. Be careful on the granite, it is uneven, had big gaps, and is slippery in spots. It was still doable in sandals. We saw a grey seal and cormorants while walking to the lighthouse. Keep your eyes open for wildlife. Many people were tidepooling at the beginning of the walk since it was low tide. There were many people fishing. At the last dock before the lighthouse, there was a family jumping off and swimming. I'm not sure if that's actually allowed or not. No lifeguards around. There's a picnic table next to the flagpole right in front of the lighthouse, but any of the large rocks make a great spot for a picnic. Beware of seagulls if you do bring goodies. Makes sure to walk around the lighthouse and up the stairs.

This was an awesome stop and walk out to the lighthouse. Be careful a and watch your step. Beautiful views and a great hike out and back.

I enjoyed every second of the walk out to this lighthouse. The views in every direction are breathtaking! Be VERY careful when the rocks get wet because they become very slippery. I really want to go back to the lighthouse, it has been my favorite lighthouse in Maine so far.

beautiful, breezy one mile walk out to the lighthouse. Dog friendly, make sure you have good shoes is all granet with gaps in the rocks

  • 4/5 Valerie Jane G. 2 years ago on Google
Mindful that this requires you to keep an eye on your feet. Where appropriate footwear harder than you think. Also half way gives you the best photo opportunity watch the waves can get wet. That being said if you are up to the 2mikes round trip it is quite an experience. I would try to avoid the crowded times.

The walk to this lighthouse is rather treacherous (deep cracks and crevices along the whole way), and the lighthouse itself is pretty underwhelming. You can’t really see the lighthouse part once you’re up close. The walk is also way longer than it looks from the shore. I wouldn’t do it again.

Such a beautiful and peaceful spot. Highly recommend. Bring shoes that can get wet.

Gorgeous walk on the breakwater. Wish the lighthouse was open more often. Met some wonderful people. Sadly saw a dead whale.

Great view. Nice long walk. Lighthouse needs a paint job. In bad weather watch out!

  • 4/5 Jean B. 9 months ago on Google
Building is nice but you can’t really see the actual light house part. The walk is 1.3 km long break water.

Loved walking the breakwater wall to the lighthouse. Was a little longer walk than I thought. Lol. Best place to get a photo is from the dock but it’s wobbly. It was worth though.

Beautiful morning for a walk to the lighthouse. You can go up halfway to the balcony area and walk around the lighthouse, but the tower is only open on certain days. You can't really see the light once you get out to it since you can't go all the way up. Next time, I'd probably only walk halfway to get nice pictures.

It was a foggy, grey morning but that just made it seem more 'mysterious'. It's a nice walk (be careful of the gaps between the stones). A pretty easy hike (a little over 3/4 mile) as long as you pay attention to your feet. The lighthouse is very much in need of repair and we couldn't go inside, but we could go up and look out from the raised granite foundation it was on. Nice view, even in the fog.

This was a really great lighthouse, very unique and interesting. The hike was extremely long, much longer than it looks from shore, but easy and definitely worth it. It's a little bit rough terrain so probably not accessible to folks with mobility issues (definitely no wheelchair ramp), though there were a few elders there when we went. Plan to take your time and bring some sunscreen.

A wonderful hike on the breakwater. A bit cold in December, but we had wonderful weather. This could be dangerous at high tide, so be aware of the tides, and use the bathroom before you go; there's no privacy or restrooms out there. The rocks are mostly flat with some large gaps, so this is not for wheelchairs or strollers. You need to keep looking down to ensure your next step, so stop occasionally to take in the view. The lighthouse was closed when we went, but I understand it is sometimes staffed by volunteers on weekends.

Assure it's low/ lower tide or else you'll get wet and could be slippery walking the break. It's just over 0.75 miles each way. The view was pretty at the lighthouse but was not open to see inside and minimal information posted outside.

A leisurely 1 mile walk out from the parking lot and back. It does seem like a long walk because you're stepping across some gaps in the stones but overall not a hard trek at all. definitely would be more treacherous if it were windy or stormy but we had perfect weather

  • 5/5 Maya S. 2 years ago on Google
Very unique light house, located 3/4 of a mile into the harbor and the only way to access is to walk on a granite stones. Beautiful views.

  • 5/5 Leah K. 2 years ago on Google
Wear good shoes and keep an eye on your feet! You’re about to walk almost two miles out to a lighthouse and back on uneven stones. Worth it? 100%. It’s not a hard walk, and it’s fun to climb around on the lighthouse when you reach your destination. Dogs welcome, no public restrooms. Dress warm because it was VERY windy on our trip in early September.
