Really enjoyable visit. The ticket includes the old castle, the house, tunnels and the fire line exhibition. You can download the official Cardiff castle app for a free guidance and history of the Castle and surrounding place. You can also take your own coffee and food and sit for a free inside the Castle on the wooden beaches, or on the grass. I would recommend the place for everyone who is looking for the history of the castle, exploring history of Cardiff.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cardiff Castle. Beautiful grounds, which are open to the public for free. If you want to see the other sites within the walls, you'll need to pay the entrance fee and it is worth it and reasonably priced. Lots to see, explore and enjoy. Was nice to sit with a lolly and take in the views. Some beautiful architecture with a wealth of history. Highly recommend a visit.

Great place to visit. Not cheap but worth it. The extra charge small group guided tour is essential. The guide was great, interesting with a theme to the visit and loads of little-known facts to illuminate the experience. All the staff we spoke to made us feel welcome and they all knew their stuff. Well done.

This is an amazing castle. We recommend adding on the 50 min tour for a full experience (£4) and access to special ornately decorated rooms. Our guide, Gareth was fantastic. He did a great job of showing us all the intricate details of how each room was designed. Their is a lot of history here from ancient Roman times to now. You can enjoy the Cafe, which is situated right next to the ancient Roman wall, making for a unique experience. This a must visit in Wales.

Castle is beautiful, as is the grounds.. we didn't do guided tour but still £52 for 2 adults, 1 concession & 1 child and was probably only 6 rooms you can go in which was a bit disappointing although they are stunning rooms. The keep, has amazing views and walking the walls was good and the museum was very interesting too. The big problems for us was the loud music blaring from the "community cricket cup" which we found pretty awful and 100% took away from the peacefulness of the place and finally the toilets which were ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS..filthy, sanitary bins over flowing, no tissue, soaking floor!!!

Wales is lucky to have a number of beautiful castles. Options for visiting include purchasing tickets for a tour of the castle itself, or if you are only here for a quick visit, then you can walk around the grounds for free.

Class. Great day out. Lots to see for free but you need to get the tickets to see the rest. £14.50 per adult to see a little more - a little pricey for what you get. You have to more again to see the rest of the castle rooms. Great little museum all about the army's through the ages. Little boys and girls will love it too. Huge green area for family picnis with lots of picnic tables and a nice cafe for all your food and drink needs.

No need to book online - can turn up and buy tickets at the entrance. Very well laid out displays. Nice clean walk ways and multiple places to sit and rest. Very photogenic views. £12.50 adult single tickets. Feels a little overly priced as I managed to see everything in one hour. Worth a visit if you have NEVER been to a castle before. There are other Welsh castles which are far more beautiful.

My Dad and I decided to visit the castle for the day whilst on a little getaway. We parked up and put 5 hours on the car thinking it would be plenty of time.. it wasn't we probably needed another hour 🙈 There is so much to see from the air raid shelter experience, the military museum, the keep, the walls and the roman remains alongside the incredible artwork beside it. Honestly the best £14.50 I've spent in such a long time and I'd happily go back!

Great place but over priced. Limited tickets so but before hand. No close parking available. The park is also a great walk behind the castle. Food is around the it side streets.

Unexpectedly interesting. Amazing rooms. Definitely do both the additional tower and house tours. Both guides were informative and entertaining in different ways. Only complaint was that we bought tickets in advance and then had to buy additional tickets for those tours, rather than being able to get it all at once. So there's really no point booking online in advance. I don't think it was even mentioned before I bought the tickets that to see all the best bits you need to pay again.

A spectacular architecture for medieval defence , beautiful chambers of mixed cultural arts under Welsh history, a very artistic experience for the private library collection of family of Bute and successors families…an amazing fantasy of a Banquet hall for your dream castle Royal-like wedding…⚜️ If you love the culture of Wales, you have to experience it with loved ones…also don’t miss the museum downstairs for tributes to veterans. The Night time wonderland experience was unique! Got to check out!

This is the place that you can’t miss out if you coming to Cardiff! We visited here on Sunday and it was very busy! But really worth to visit, you can have a walk around outside of Cardiff Castle and of course it is really a good place to sit on the grass and enjoy the view and sunlight! Quite recommend to buy the tickets and get inside! ( it is toooooo busy on Sunday so we didn’t buy the tickets)

Great historic castle with a lot of areas to explore and discover. The only thing I found lacking was some of the historic plaques were well worn and damaged beyond reading. If you want an indepth history of the original castle and its additions I suggest a guided tour.

The views were incredible. Took one of the 3 guided tours ( house tour). There are quite a few steps to climb, in all parts of the castle. Also walked into the bomb shelters. It's a long tunnel with the sounds of bombs dropping. It's a great place to visit. Stayed over 2 hrs.

Terrific Historical and magical Castle. We really enjoyed our time here. It was really adventure to history and some places reminded us BBC TV series Merlin . It was amazing, we could remember the places from scenes and how actors acted there and loved it. However at the end of the corridor one place was locked and there was a sign that it was only for guided tour, we wanted to see it without guide though it wasn't possible. Anyway we could see so much more and took loads of memorable pics.

Quite impressive castle in the middle if Cardiff with parts from several time periods, partially reconstructed. Walking the grounds was very enjoyable, trying to imagine how it could have been there in former times. For us, the most interesting part were the tunnels used as air raid shelters in the second world war with their small exhibition. The cafe is also worth a visit.

Cardiff castle is a must visit if you come here. It is worth it to pay the entrance fee if you enjoy the history and culture. Seems to date back to the 3rd century time of Romans. The old Roman wall is evidence of the same. If you go as a group i would recommend to take a guide since some areas like the castle tower and castle rooms can be accessed only with guides

It was a very enjoyable visit at the Castle. We also made use of the app you can download using the free WiFi at the ticket desk and you can listen to the explanations for all the points of interest around the Castle. The visit to the house was definitely worth the ticket, the interiors were really nice. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are visiting Cardiff.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Cardiff Castle, and it truly exceeded all my expectations! This stunning castle is a must-visit for anyone exploring Cardiff. Also, the Castle 🏰🏯 is in the heart of the Main Cardiff City, The combination of ancient history and architectural marvels is truly captivating. The well-preserved medieval keep transports you back in time, offering a glimpse into the castle's storied past. The guided tours are informative and engaging, providing a deep understanding of the castle's significance in Welsh history. The surrounding grounds are a beautiful oasis in the city. The lush greenery, charming gardens, and picturesque views make for a perfect stroll. Don't miss the breathtaking views from the top of the Norman Keep - it's like stepping into a fairy tale. The castle hosts various events throughout the year, and if you have the chance to attend one, I highly recommend it. From concerts to historical reenactments, there's always something exciting happening here. There are few places where you need it but tickets however there are a few places it's free to visit. You can roam around the castle for free of cost and if you need to go inside then you need to pay, and I think the ticket cost is around 14 Pounds. The Castle closes around 6 Pm every day. So, you need to plan accordingly. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, Cardiff Castle is the place to be. It's a treasure trove of culture and history right in the heart of the city. Don't miss this incredible landmark - it's an experience you'll cherish forever! Pro Tip: Check the castle's website for any special events or exhibitions happening during your visit - it can make your experience even more memorable. Enjoy your time at Cardiff Castle! 🏰🌟 If you are driving Parking, is the biggest problem. There are few private MLCP parking's but it's very expensive. Visiting Castle, Local Shopping and Street Food would be the best fit for a Weekend. If you are visiting Cardiff, then it's a must visit place.

Pretty good place, not great. Its got a good gift shop on the premises and the castle part is ok. It only takes 30-40 minutes to get through the whole thing. Oh, the War museum downstairs is probably the best part, with a lot of cool artifacts.

An iconic place when you're saying Cardiff.. A beautiful place, full of history unique by architecture. Paid £20 for an adult ticket. You have to show your ticket at the entry, the staff it's gonna give you a sticker badge. You can stick it on your top. Traveled 300 miles just to see tge castle.. Worth every penny

Totally interesting place to visit and the history is fantastic. When we were there, there was a pride event so the castle was surrounded with rainbow 🌈🌈🌈 flags. We felt very welcome. The war shelter tunnels were amazing to walk through.

Great attraction at the centre of Cardiff, plenty to see, the keep where you can climb to the top for great views, although there is an art to timing when to go up or come down the steps as they are narrow, you can book a full tour of the house for an additional fee, the standard ticket allows for restricted access, there is also a small military themed museum beneath the ticket office and World War Two era bomb shelters to explore. Nice day out that will keep you busy for a while, and of course there is a cafe

Enjoyed our day looking round, my daughter really liked learning about the castles history. Enjoyed the tunnels; which was used as an air raid shelter during the war. Advise anyone who visits Cardiff to go, if you like history you'll love Cardiff Castle.

It was a new year's evening, so I haven't had full opportunity to see this castle in all its glory. However, according to what I saw at that time, I can easily say that it is huge, with a lot of space inside, a beautiful tower with many decorations, and Norman Keep. According to the parking situation, there are many private ones not far from the castle, and there are also many "Park and Ride" parking facilities available on the local streets. A special thanks to the security guards for their very polite way of greeting and friendly approach.

I really liked the castle. It's a pity that some rooms were closed. I would also like the cashiers to warn that some parts of the castle cannot be visited unless you are part of a group with a guide. We bought regular tickets and couldn't get into the clock tower.

Was great seeing history. The main castle has alot of steep narrow steps so be careful. Loved the mural on the wall it took several years to complete but worth a gander. The military museum was great to see and the inside walls set up showing shelters during the blitz.

It was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking . The Christmas lights and decor was top notch craftsmanship and I will recommend doing it at night during the winter to enjoy the Christmas lights. It’s also free entry which is a plus just for the public space but you have to get a ticket to enter the main castle. The ice skating looked really nice but we didn’t try it cause of time but if you’re into ice skating, I’m sure you’ll love it🥰

Great experience. We booked the tickets online and the price is quite reasonable. Inside the castle you can walk around and explore the wall and also enter one of the buildings. The staff was very friendly and professional. They really took care of the building and you can appreciate the effort put into renovation, making it a very unique historical place to visit. Totally worth it.

It is a great example of a medieval fort. Inner Norman castle is circled by an inner moat. 2 main gates and there is a wooden bridge over the outer moat. Highly reccomended if you are interested in medieval architecture.

Cardiff Castle is an absolute marvel that seamlessly weaves together history and architectural brilliance. The medieval walls and stunning Victorian Gothic architecture create a captivating backdrop that takes you on a journey through time. The guided tours are informative and engaging, providing fascinating insights into the castle's rich past. Exploring the opulent interiors, including the extravagant Arab Room, is a treat for history enthusiasts and art lovers alike. The surrounding grounds are beautifully landscaped, offering a serene escape in the heart of the city. A visit to Cardiff Castle is an unforgettable experience that showcases the city's heritage in all its grandeur.

Great venue. We'll run. Nice friendly staff. Due to it being castle grounds not really designed for gigs tho with respect of getting in and especially out. Queue to leave the arena was very long . Thousands of people funneling through only two small exits. Castles doing what they are designed to do.

  • 5/5 Javier A. 8 months ago on Google
Wonderful castle. Looks like a dream castle. Well preserved. Tickets are on the higher side but worth to visit if going to Cardiff. Lots of walking, it has different sections centred on Roman age, palace, world war and the medieval castle itself

  • 5/5 Danyil Y. 8 months ago on Google
It is an extremely beautiful castle that has lived for more than a dozen centuries. It was originally built by the Romans as a fortress, but now only the reconstructed northern gate remains from those times, and only a couple of square meters of real masonry. Later, the place outlived the Anglo-Saxons, the Normans, and the Tudors, and everyone who could be outlived (and outlive us too 🙂). I highly recommend visiting both the main tower and the black tower. On the right side (from the entrance) there will be a huge building of various facades of different Gothic styles, it is also undoubtedly worth a look, because it contains the whole history of this place from medieval times and the Middle Ages.

Castle was very well built. We went to the underground cinema which was brilliant. It was a shame that the bar was closed otherwise it would have been more brilliant. The down fall was it didn’t have much lighting at the exit it was very poorly lit. The toilets were available but not very clean and couldn’t flush the toilets properly. Otherwise it was a great experience

  • 5/5 Michael L. 6 months ago on Google
Outstanding castle with a long and colourful history. Many features can be seen from the different stages of its development from the Roman foundations, Norman Keep, to the current relatively modern restoration and use as a residence, to name just a few. If you're in Cardiff, then enjoying a couple of hours here is a must do.

  • 4/5 Evelyn E. 7 months ago on Google
A good experience for showing people a Welsh castle. For the ticket you get entry into the beautiful castle where you can learn about it's history and look at the beautiful architecture, as well as the option to climb a tower that provides a great view of the city and castle grounds. There are also lovely benches to eat and relax. It's not an all day experience, but one to two hours is good enough to see everything in the paid area.

  • 5/5 Elizabeth 5 months ago on Google
If you love castles, then I recommend Cardiff Castle. It is reasonably priced and a great day out. It is a big castle, and there are some steep steps, but there's hand rails to assist. There is so much history and information around the ground and so much to see, including 2000 year old Roman Wall. Staff was lovely and happy to help and talk about the history, so it is lovely to know they have knowledge of the castle. It's a lovely day out, and I can't wait to return.

Nice historical site. Spent a few hours here walking around and there are some figures and installations to check out too including the dragon, a wall full of lion and wild cat statues, the fortress etc. Located close to town so can access public transport, shops, restaurants etc. Nice greenery space once you enter in through the gate.

Beautiful even in a rainy (torrential at times) day. Was loads to see inside thankfully, all staff were very helpful and were knowledgeable too which is good to hear. Beautiful rooms which we looked around all of them. Only area i was not keen on due to the noise and overall atmosphere was the war bunker/shelter old dusty and just too loud the speakers were. Beautiful walk up the steps at the castle and stunning views had too. 5 out of 5

  • 5/5 Pete W. 2 years ago on Google
If you're on a mobility scooter the grounds and tunnels plus museum very accessible. The main building only accessible via steps although staff very helpful. The keep could be a challenge with lots of steps to the top and back again. Worth doing though, excellant Iver view. Generally knowledgeable stewards make for an enjoyable visit. Try and catch a talk in arms in the bowls of the museum - very good.

  • 5/5 Поли . 2 years ago on Google
Highly recommend the guided tour! Interesting things to see, like ancient toilet with flushing water. The war museum is stunning - you can hear the bombs falling. Climbing the tower is inspiring and the view from its top is astonishing.

Really enjoyable visit, very friendly informative staff. Lots see from the house to the old castle, tunnels and military museum. Nice shop and cafe, the castle is situated right in the middle of the city with its great shopping centre. Highly recommend

The castle felt quite small in comparison to some of the other famous British ones such as Edinburgh Castle and Windsor Castle... Good to visit and browse through anyway plus you can spend a lot of time browsing through the historic Shopping Arcades which are right outside the various lanes leading to and from the Castle.

  • 3/5 Leanne M. 2 years ago on Google
It's a beautiful castle but for the amount it costs to get in there isn't really alot to see. For that reason I can only score 3 stars sorry.

  • 5/5 jenny s. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely must go. The grounds are free to enter but it is worth paying to get entry to the house and a guided tour. Go round the underground galleries under the outer walls. Also listen to the commentary on the website by Hugh Edwards. It's easy to spend the day here. If you don't want to bring a picnic the restaurant cafe in the shop does a very well-presented and tasty sandwich with accompanying salad.

Absolutely beautiful castle and grounds. This year it hosted the winter ice rink until Omicron decided to mess up every one's social life. It has a beautiful banquet Hall for events including weddings, awards ceremonies etc... one of Cardiff's historic gems. The grounds around it are beautiful and great for picnics.

Castle was a mix of things. A bit of medieval castle. Bit of 19th century stately home. Bomb shelter. Welsh guards museum. Roman ruins. Concert venue. I didn’t like the concert venue as it took away from the ambience. But I get they need it. I found the entrance fee pricey for what you got. Quite liked the Welsh guard museum which is free (downstairs from the souvenir shop. Had I known, unsure if I’d pay £14 entrance fee which allowed me to go into the Bute home/castle keep. My favorite parts were free. Also check out the park next to the castle. There’s a stone circle we saw from a distance but didn’t get a chance to visit.

Went for Queens of the Stone Age. Beautiful venue and amazing set up for gigs, well organised with the two entrances and there was plenty of space, as well as an abundance of street food and amenities. We were at the front but the use of the screens allowed those at the back to see still. Great sound quality. Will be returning when next in Cardiff to visit the castle itself!

Fantastic! Literally layers upon layers of history here. Don't scrimp--pay for the extra tours--especially the house tour. It's spectacular and Amelia was a stellar guide. In fact, all the employees were well informed and helpful. For those who are able, the climbs yield excellent views! It's a must-see!

Beautiful expanded Era castle Its earliest parts build in the medieval times, then later built around in the Victorian age. Both well preserved. Access to the rooftop of the center castle was open to the public. The tower to the extended castle is private tours only. There is also a section of Roman Era wall in the gallery alongside the history museum. Took one star off because there was a concert stage built in front of the center castle and ruined my photo shots. I'm sure it's to raise money for the castle.but the sound alone will do more damage than good. Clearly, no one thought this through.

  • 5/5 Seags 10 months ago on Google
Such a beautiful piece of history with some amazing interior architecture. The library is a step in history and the view from the tower is sublime - you can see for miles over the city, on a clear day. Really interesting and querky furniture and windows.

We visited Cardiff Castle for a live music event (Queens of the Stone Age, 23rd June 2023) and it was such a great space for this kind of event. Sound quality was excellent, with a beautiful backdrop of the Castle as the sun set. Really well organised, staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. We paid the extra for the hospitality and it was well worth the money for the additional facilities, your own bar, seating in between performances and 'posh toilets'! Staff were really on it at the door too and kicked out someone who tried to blag their way in without a wrist band. Didn't use any of the food stands available, so can't comment on the quality but looked like they had a good offering of choice. Looking forward to our next visit!

Located in the city centre, the castle as seeing today was built in the late of the XI century. The old structure it was from the Roman Empire, and today there is a piece of the “roman wall” inside the shop. The castle worked as fortress and with the later years ended as the Welsh Mayor family residence. The inside of the palace was rebuilt and the family spend a considerable amount of money to renew the decor at the 50 and 60’s. The most beautiful room It is the Arab room. The ceiling details are all cuts in wood perfectly made giving the impression of a 4D construction. The library collection has many first editions and a vast compilation of French and German writers. It is curious as well to see many of the council books of the Cardiff town are still there. I haven’t visit the clock tower as it was a separated ticket and at least 100 stairs to climb. We enjoyed to walk around the palace walls, and under it was the “war tunnels” where during the WWII the tunnels would be used open to public access to protect them from bombs. A full historical site worthy to visit

Visited here recently on a beautiful sunny day. Main grounds are free but if you want to go in to the Castle you need to pay. Adults were £14.50 each. The Castle is beautiful. The self guided tour goes round the rooms which are open to the public. There is alot to see. Took us about an hour or so as I spent time looking at the paintings etc. We'll worth a visit if you in Cardiff.

Beautiful castle, plenty of things to explore, Surprisingly beautiful interiors of the house. It also has galleries used as war shelters, an interesting detail. With a £4 addition you get to see more, with a guided tour. There is free wi-fi and a free app can be downloaded, where everything is explained in several languages. It's definitely worth a visit.
