The Dept. of Veteran Affairs voted last year to close down this hospital. I don't know why it hasn't happened yet, but they need to close this place down fast. The staff is rude, and don't care. Even their doctors don't do their jobs. The way this people behave, in all areas, you couldn't picture them working in a REAL hospital and not being fired in a week. The only reason they still have a job here is because there is no oversight or accountability. Everyone just covers for each other while they keep stealing government money and mistreating veterans. Veterans, listen up: If you want anything done, anything, ANYTHING AT ALL, and they are giving you trouble, call Washington. That is the only way to hild this people accountable.

I am here in the ER now with my partner, & the 3 women that do the intake/triage couldn't be more rude. They literally taunt & disrespect the patients, & purposely give them the wrong directions just so that they can watch them walk back & forth in pain. My partner has a injured hip, & they literally keep calling us in then telling us to go out back & forth. All while he is using a cane to move around. They lack patience too. Like these aren't patients who have suffered enough while serving this country!

Absolutely Horrible. No continuity of care. No reviewing your history. No communication between departments. My primary and my oncologist have never met, yet they work in the same building.(Thanks for taking the initiative Ladies!) This facility is a people processing plant. The psych department is useless, you'll get better care from the Crisis Line. Serving all of Philadelphia, the 6th largest city in the country, and the surrounding suburbs (40 mile radius)-all the way to the jersey shoreline, there is no escape! Wilks-barre, and Coatsville might as well be satellites as they don't provide advanced imaging, IR, HEM/ONC, etc. They refer you back to the Phila VA. People Literally die waiting for care. The phones don't work. The computers don't work. The people they hire don't work. The office of advocacy/CAROL doesn't work. The sooner you die the less money the government pays out. If you think you or a loved one got adequate care at this facility, you must have the sniffles. Don't come here with chronic illness.

Needed my hearing fixed; too many ALQ-99 transmitters in my past. Got an appt, parked for free and was set up with 2 premium hearing aids. This place was top notch for my needs!

My father was discharged Friday afternoon and the doctors failed to put in an order for his hospice care (that was already approved) Despite the hospital being open all weekend there is no one who can put the order in until Monday. While most at the VA are competent providers there is a clear lack of administrative process and oversight to make sure patients receive the proper care after leaving the VA. Hopefully he makes it until Monday without the hospice care he needs.

This place is awful. Staff is careless and inconsiderate. We all feel like lab rats and animals when we come here. It's more like a VA Zoo then a hospital. Ohh and I just came to find out while sitting here in the ER. At the ER doesn't matter the order of arrival or importance. Employees get treated first. That's a joke

If you like waiting 2-3 hours for your doctor because he’s running late, constantly sitting in traffic, construction for YEARS , ridiculous parking lot where there’s only 1 exit depending on 1 light in the middle of downtown traffic, bathrooms always a wreck, a place that allows other hospitals to use Veteran parking … this place is for you. Oh yeah and holidays….16 vets waiting in lab, 4 employees decorating the door. Unsat!!!

Dr. Heller at the Women's Clinic has questionable decision-making when it comes to patient care. I feel like a lab rat because of her "let's try this" approach, as I'm sure many other veterans feel this way with their providers. For a certain condition she would prefer to prescribe a combination of three or four ineffective medications some with harmful side effects {For example, one had a black box warning for drug-induced Lupus) to see if they work rather than prescribe one that has been proven to work on me when given in the ER. And yes, it is a drug that can be prescribed for long-term use. She had also prescribed a high dose drug for off-label use that left me with an irreversible, debilitating side effect even though I voluntarily stopped taking the medication two years ago. Last year, when admitted to the ER at the VA Hospital the nurse stated that I was the fifth patient of Dr. Heller's that day. This told me a lot about her quality of care or lack thereof.

Friendly dealings with staff,. .....However! There is absolutely NO communication with the doctor who did my surgery , never met him! I had to get a report on the surgery months later. My insurance at work claimed they "couldn't find him" and as a result, my insurance closed the case and I was 2 months with NO income. Needless to say, I was in severe financial trouble! How does a doctor " just disappear" phone system is terrible as many people have mentioned

We CHOOSE to drive the 90 minutes out of the way to this facility. It is worth it for the better service, care and accommodating they do with coordinating appointments for my husband and myself.

Elon Musk, please help the VA phone and computer website systems. premium account wants all my personal information to make an appointment. They shouldn't need 3rd party asking for my picture, ssn, and credit history. This 3rd party also took my IP address. Giving away your information is not for security purposes. Once a veteran gives all their information into the system, they have the option for veterans to sign into this system using facebook, linkedin and twitter. Which is another pathway for someone to have access to your records. Why would a government facility allow social forums as a means for you or anyone else to have access to your identity. This is dangerous.

To be fair...when it comes to the actual providers/doctors/medical staff, I've had good experiences. However, the administrative and other support staff is nothing short of rude, condescending, disrespectful and unprofessional. I don't know what kind of outreach program you're utilizing in order to staff the VA, but it's not working. Perhaps hire people who are genuinely interested in helping people who have actually served their country instead ignorant brats who only want a paycheck.

***STAY AWAY FROM HERE!*** READ ALL REVIEWS! It's CRAZY how these reviews are and yet, THERE'S ZERO CHANGE! This place DEF should be shut down! The doctors in the ER do NOT CARE ABOUT PATIENTS! They do NOT diagnose ANYTHING and you will leave in the same condition you entered! Nurse supervisor Marvin must believe anybody that comes to him w concerns is beneath him and his colleagues as he tries to belittle patients.Dr. Sananman laughs at patients as he hands their discharge papers to them. Mean while Mr.Coi Smith should probably look into how patients are treated and further up the chain. They do NOT listen at ALL to patients. PLEASE VETERANS GO TO ANOTHER ER! WE DESERVE BETTER! The staff are unbelievably rude and unbecoming. I feel so sorry for older veterans that have no other choice. WASHINGTON NEEDS TO STEP IN HERE!

This VA is not as bad as the Vets say!! You have to speak with respect and clarity but most importantly be your own advocate. I've haven't had any problems because when there is one I speak up and simply ask for help!!

I had an appointment with Dr Newman in August 2022. He was very thorough, professional and personable. (A very unique combination). An extremely pleasurable experience! He patiently listened to all my concerns and explained everything about my exam. - Now the hospital--- I salute the staff there for what they do! Really challenging times for all VA hospitals but every experience I had associated with my appt- telephone calls, interaction upon arrival, and the staff in Occupational Health were extremely professional and courteous. The facility looked overwhelmed but what hospital isn't today. I really appreciate what they do day in and day out taking care of our nation's most valuable resources-- it's veterans! I sincerely thank you!!!!!

I’ve always received the best of care. The staff has been great, professional and knowledgeable. Never had a problem with setting up my appointments. I hope things work out for others, even the best civilian hospitals are under staff and is hard for people to get through at times and make timely appointments. From what my friends tell me, and no matter where we go there is no perfect system.

My father has had some issues a few times in the last couple of months and had to stay in this hospital for about a week for both stays. They treat me father with dignity and respect and are very thoughtful and caring for their patients. The VA gets it’s fair share of criticism from over the years, but they have been nothing but life savers for my old man. I thank every person I see whenever I am here for being the amazing people that they are.

I give a triple "A" rating to the Philadelphia VA Dental Clinic. I'm a 73 year old Vietnam Veteran, I dropped my upper partial plate and it broke in half. I called the VA was told to come in as a "walk-in" they would see if they could help me. I did and they did. They took my partial and had it repaired and back in my mouth in 4 working days over the Memorial Day weekend. They are great.!! Thank you VA and staff.

This place is one of the reasons I worked hard to leave the city. It’s segregated and a lot of people think like it’s the 1970s. My dad was treated poorly here. The people here have no heart for the patients. Might as well go trap if you only care about money smh. Don’t recommend. Treat our veterans better.

If I could give this place less than one star I would. I was abused miss treated by staff at this medical center. I have attempted on several occasions to reach out to administration as well as the patient advocate and no one has called me back. To call this place a medical center is a gross miscarriage. The administration does not care the patient advocate does not care if your family member is abused. As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps IM thoroughly disgusted as to the treatment that I received there. I challenge the administration

Spoke with Kelly in the neurology department and she was so kind and knowledgeable. She took the time to look up numbers and find information for me even though it was after their main work hours. I hope all their staff is like Kelly.

I personally don't like to travel too far for medical treatment because it's so draining, however, this particular wasn't to bad. For those Veterans, if you do not know, contact travel at the VA & sign up to take the transportation van to Philly. I would suggest scheduling your appointment at Philly VA for 9-9:30. The van will leave at 0800. If all goes well, ensure your appointment is over by 1030-1040 as the morning van leaves 1045 but will return later in afternoon and depending on others coming up with afternoon appointments, you will be there until their appointments are finished. Overall, the Philly VA is just different from the Wilmington VA and given the choice, I would not go up there.

This hospital is a one stop shop! The care I have received here is better than I could hope for at any civilian hospital or clinic available to me because they understand how to treat veterans. I don't believe they are perfect and they are understaffed but the people they have working here are top notch and have been tremendous in helping me through all my medical needs.

Stay on top of your own lab results! My abnormal labs have not been addressed in years because of frequent primary care provider changes, and the focus on my PTSD to the neglect of physical care. I am begging for basic bloodwork to follow up now. That's disgraceful; the MD acts like she's paying out of pocket herself for my tests. I cannot afford to see an outside provider.

I’ve always received the best of care minus the dental benefits. The staff has been great, professional and knowledgeable. I’ve had about two surgeries and can say I’m happy with the outcome! Grateful for you professionals and angels in scrubs and uniforms! Also their behavioral health team is great!

I have Resistant Hypertension and Stage 1 Diastolic Dysfunction. Every physician I've encountered at the VA Hospital and Fitz Mercy including Dr. Cara Heller's own nursing staff ask the same two questions: Are you seeing a Cardiologist? Did Dr. Heller refer you to one? Well Dr. Cara Heller told me I "don't qualify to see a Cardiologist" because I must take more than three medications without improvement then said, "Besides I have access to the same medications as a Cardiologist does". She'd rather play trial and error with various medications all with dangerous side effects than send the patient to a specialist. Heller also told me to stay on Carvedilol not because it works (which it doesn't) but for the sake of tolerability only. She didn't even recommend a low-dose aspirin regimen; Ophthalmology did after I had an eye stroke from high blood pressure (IOPs normal) and had a clot in my neck that luckily rerouted itself. Yet she lectures me constantly about heart attack, stroke and renal failure. In the past 2 1/2 years I've been admitted to the medical unit three times and sent to the ER on numerous occasions with BPs of 200s/100s. I'd say this more than qualifies me to see a Cardiologist.

Our first time entering the VA and can not praise the staff at this facility enough. The wait in the ER was less than 15 minutes. All disciplines communicated with me as swiftly as the results came in for my father. He was admitted for observation and discharged the next evening. Relocating my father and getting him connected to good medial care is one less thing for me to tackle. THANK YOU, Philadelphia Reginal Veteran Affairs STAFF, Y'ALL ROCK

The employees do not care. Called as a concerned relative after a 30yr army veteran who was being financially, physically & mentally abused was force-ably taken from Florida by his abuser. I was told that the social worker would call me, she didn't. I had to call three more times to speak with her. She promised me that she would go speak with him, but the next day I was given two different stories about where my family member was being taken - I later find out he was released to the care of a random stranger that his son claims is the sister (but it is not). I try for hours, leaving multiple voicemails, reaching out via FB messenger and NO ONE!! No one calls me back. So now, my vulnerable relative is in the care of some random person - instead of being in Florida in the home he paid for. His sons have taken over his home and his life savings and abandoned him where he is no longer their issue. The system the was designed to protect this man has failed him. **Update on 2/7 I was finally contacted in reference to this concern. Praying that something comes of this.

PickMeisha Nurse Kehulani Newkirk Jackson who gets women she’s envious of sabotaged. The unreported money she was paid to sabotage me helped fund her numerous trips being an online sugar momma. She was able to pay off her student loans, she was able to purchase anything I talked about at random, even saw 2 $5000 money bands in her truck as I was being set up to be eliminated by her and ugly plastic surgery bodied NJ nobodies. She orchestrated many AA women being fired from VA and bragged about it, I asked her what about their families she didn’t care. She continues to participate in cyberstalking/gangstalking women she’s intimidated bye on disturbed sites Reddit and Lipstick Alley with her master accomplice Karen Civil. I’ve known her since 1997, so she’s been sabotaging me a long time for nothing other than envy, and would’ve never imagined she was this evil. She along with surgery face Karen, Sid Dempsey, Sameerah Mckant and others all have severe MH issues and tried to unalive me, but the only way they could is through extreme HIPAA violations Lani set people up to be humiliated at concerts, did fake studies to gain medical info, sharing pics for the adult burn pages all because she’s jealous of “friends”. The doctor who’s always sick and the nurse who comes to work in workout clothes watch your back. She’s a horribly ugly human being and that’s why all those men she pays to date use her and throw her to the side. Miserable and evil, no integrity at all. I can’t imagine how many women she felt insecure around that she “helped” get fired. From hating her retiring boss to hating the new head nurse replacing her boss. On Reddit/FB/lipstick alley burn pages trolling for men. Pick me who will give her last dollar to be liked by men. Do fake medical research (still have the paperwork with her name/info) to take the information back to these humiliation pages. Tried to use this and lie on my MH. When only she and the rest have severe MH issues. Even down to the tattoo artists who took 7hrs and overcharged while reading the hateful stuff she wrote on the burn pages. Now I understand why she has no friends be why all the men she pays to date fleece her be leaves. Weird how they all pass away. Everything she’s done all these years will come back to her 10 fold. How mediocre you must be as a 46 year old woman to participate in this nonsense. The definition of Borderline personality disorder. Helped sabotage my career and life because of envy. Dr. Ala watch out because she talked about you badly! Someone must’ve relayed the message because her psychotic behind emailed me. Paid corrupt gov informant. Untaxed huge payments to harm innocent citizens who have been placed on some weird list. The thing is all of you demons have BEEN setting people up, eliminating behind the scenes, collecting PPP money as scammers, abused inner children, ugly demons do, y’all deserve every evil thing that’s coming y’all way. Blood money for student loans, house payments and treating your sugar babies until you need insurance dollars then they are eliminated. Surprised Karen let you eliminate one of her Zo’s thought it was limited too AA.

VA horror stories are no urban legend, they are the daily norm, and the Philadelphia VA is on the upper end. After THEY called me at 1500 the day prior to move my appointment earlier the next day, they did not change any of the parameters for the appointment, fasting, etc. So when I arrived, following existing prescribed measures, I was told that the doctor would not see me because I did what they told me. Two days off of work for a canceled appointment they created. The VA is the mess you hear about about, but it is what you pay for, garbage service for the veterans and a tax sinkhole for the taxpayer.
