Showers smell like urine. Dust, hair and general dirt around and beneath machines suggesting they never get cleaned. Shower buttons only remain depressed for a few seconds. Several machines are missing pegs for weights rendering them useless unless you can steal a peg from a neighbouring machine. Customers are ‘reserving’ lockers by padlocking them shut whilst not actually at the gym resulting in 80 percent of lockers occupied in male changing rooms with only 6 men visible in the gym on a quiet Sunday morning. No water available on top floor where cardio machines reside. All equipment extremely dated, missing pegs and covered in dust. Showers regularly have the same torn labels from shampoo bottles discarded on floor for days on end.

Used to love this gym but its gone downhill fast. Half the treadmills are broke, weights machines all missing the pins. And they have a student joining offer on literally every month which means the gym is way oversubscribed. If you plan on your workouts being between 3pm - 8pm good luck. You are not getting on any machine and will struggle to find a free weights bench. I honestly dread to see what its going to be like in January. Additionally I had a female friend that goes to JD gym and she recently cancelled her membership. The reason being that the male staff members wouldnt leave her alone while doing a workout. I assume because she is an attractive young female. Dont join this gym!

Great gym with good equipment the only downside to the gym is that the male showers are uncomfortable to use because they are that hot it feels like you are on fire after a couple of seconds of using them. Gym staff have been asked many times to lower the temperate but still nothing has been done about how hot the showers are.

What are JD Gyms' [Dale Street] Management improvement plans for the men's showering facilities? I attended the gym on 22/7/23, and, following an intensive workout session I was unable to take a shower as the water was scalding hot. Why was this? I've been told in the past 'we're waiting for a thermostat part' The men's showering facilities are in need of a full upgrade. Cubicles are too small, water cuts off every 5 seconds, water is either scalding or freezing and there aren't enough of them particularly at peak times. JD Gyms must be making a profit, why can't a percentage of profits be ploughed back into improving facilities at the Dale St branch?

I really liked this gym but it's getting worse and worse. The showers there have been cold for a month. Sauna is often 'cold' (40-50 degrees) or completely off (in the evenings). It took them months to replace treadmills (maybe 1-2 out of 8 worked properly). They are either trying to save money or just keep ignoring the issues.

I used to love this gym 3-4 years ago. It’s gone drastically downhill since just before covid and after is even worse. The big treadmills, I’d say 2/8 are only ever working. I’ve had electric shocks off them, them coming to abrupt halts when in full sprint because the emergency stop key doesn’t sit right…and they’re the ones that work! The speed and distance don’t work right on a few of them either Pins always missing from the weight stacks Equipment never replaced when broken Gym is filthy - always rubbish lying around and the showers are just downright disgusting now, I stopped using them Tbh I could overlook all of this if I could get a decent workout in but 4-6pm weekdays is absolutely RAMMED. To the point I am always having to change my workout. It’s clearly over subscribed, especially with students, but hey, not going to turn down money are they. It’s a shame because it was a great gym at one time with fab, friendly PTs. But I think it’s time for me to look elsewhere

2024 REFURB COMPLETE! This gym has been here for a while, but closed temporarily to have a refurbishment. I'm happy to report that the gym has had a modern refresh, with new equipment and décor. The most surprising thing is the new layout. The cardio area is now downstairs (previously on the 2nd floor) and it seems a lot more spacious and easier to navigate. The class studios one the first floor have had a facelift too. I particularly like the new Spinning Studio with the new Spinning bikes. The weights area is now on the 2nd floor and it's great because there's lots of new machines, new weights, a weightlifting area and it keeps the bodybuilder types upstairs, just in case you get intimidated by that sort of thing. Saunas and nice changing rooms come with the price too. Overall, if you're looking for an excellent City Centre gym in Liverpool, this one comes recommended!

Everything clean and nice and fully equipped. If you don't interfere with the arrogant staff, is a good gym. Without exaggeration, staff is unhelpfull and lazy. The only time you get some help is when you register. At the evening team members will just chat with each other, leaving the place disorganised, ending up spending more time searching for a dumbell than working out. Also, even 2 hours before closing I feel rushed out.

This gym is a great facility in a city center location, unfortunately it is not very well run. The machines are not well maintained, with many missing the weight stack pins or attachment clips, loose bolts etc. It is insanely busy from 5-8 making it very difficult to complete a targeted work out. It is a sweaty mess because the staff do not switch on the aircon, then customers open the windows, then the aircon when switched on cant possibly cope, trying to cool the whole world. The membership cancellation process, despite being a "no contract" gym, is insanely difficult. Even the FAQ "how do I cancel my membership" provides no information. In the end I had to waste over an hour of my life to complete this process over the phone. Multiple emails went unanswered, pretty poor for a modern business.

Great value for money with great facilities including changing rooms, sauna, showers. Amazing classes which are completely free & included in the membership. Helpful staff who are always about to give help if needed. Great gym overall :)

Decent atmosphere, gym equipment isn't the best, probably on par with you local travel lodge gym , as seating positioning on half machines is borderline dangerous and uneven. If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful gym this is definitely the place for you. If you're serious about lifting or any type of serious training, I'd definitely look elsewhere

Great gym, great location and friendly staff. There are plenty of machines and weights available in this three floor gym. Also, they have gone to great lengths to keep the place clean and COVID-free. At £19.99 a month I would definitely recommend this gym.

Make it difficult to cancel with big forms and then tell you you have to pay for an extra month as part of original contract. So if you cancel it mid November within your first month you have to pay to December 30th. You are told if you cancel with your bank you will be sent arrears letters.. Machines are wierd and dated. They are squashed across the floor, there is no water fountain, the changing rooms are squashed. The shower is too hot or too cold and the doors are broken. Worst gym I have ever been to.

Not enough small plates (1.25’s and 2.5’s) not enough equipment. Attempted doing a leg day people using the squat racks for anything other than squats and got a PT using several machines at once. Been a member here for years but will definitely be looking elsewhere after recent visits.

It was my first time at this gym, and I didn't know they close at 8 pm on Saturdays. A female staff member entered the male shower room, shouting that we had to leave. I requested 5 minutes to finish my shower, but she refused. While my friend and I, along with other gym members, were drying off with towels and getting dressed, the lady staff member was constantly walking around the male changing room, seemingly performing her duties. I felt very uncomfortable. It also seems like JD can't afford to hire a cleaner, so they make their gym staff clean the changing rooms while people are still there naked trying to get dressed. Additionally, the gym lacks enough machines for everyone, and their customer service is horrible. They respond here to pretend they care, but addressing problems requires emailing and waiting for 21 working days. The gym closed for "renovations" for over 4 weeks, promising not to charge during the closure. However, they charged me for that month, despite the gym being closed. I couldn't visit even if I wanted to. If you have the option, I suggest using a different gym. I chose this one for the punchbag, but now deeply regret it. They also close at 8 pm on the weekends. As soon as this month ends, I'm signing up with The Gym or Pure Gym.

Recent renovation has ruined the gym. The machines are spilt between three floors now. So you have to run between multiple floors to finish one workout. Also, they cramped the weight and machine zone in a much smaller area on top floor instead of spacious ground floor. It too right to workout now. And the bottom floor area is bieng waster by cardio machines and empty space

Out of all the gyms I have trained in in the City Centre area this is by far the best one! Clean, boss staff, boss equipment and great atmosphere. Atmosphere in classes are also great and adds onto the overall experience whether you're in them or doing your own thing! Great value for money!

Machines and everything you need is right over there. Great variety of zones and as well, had sauna, has a boxing area, has a cycle room and as well a free zone where are the classes. As well good area with treadmills and recovery zone. Only minus are the jerks who don't know how to behave and put back or arrange what they are using and to be more carefully with the facility or keep less busy the benches or machines while they are spending more time on their phones than training. But that's in every gym. However, great gym, very good price and place where to train.

Very good facilities but I put 60 quid into the cloud drive then discovered it was just in limbo as everything is free. I could not retrieve it by synchronous conferencing methods or by any direct communication, I knew they where in.the office, the message said we will call you back directly, after three days there was no call back. I am with an LCC gym with a swimming pool, sauna, community based for the same price so I just contested all charges with my bank and blocked their website. I am not going to start begging, sending emails or attempting to ho there with a disabelment to dispute charges I should never have occurred. More coronavirus financial nonsense

Been enrolled in this Gym for 3 years and still would not change it for any other. Even though is not 24 hours like other gyms around. It is huge on the inside, has a nice sauna, lockers, its always clean and tidy as there are cleaners in since early in the morning. The staff are always very friendly, nice and keen to help anyone, from new starters to senior members. Lots of free lessons and classes are given everyday as well, so for me, its the best gym in the city centre

Been going the last few months as I've been wanting to get back into shape. Place looks nice and got all the equipment you need, staff are friendly and helpful. And I do like the gym is pretty clean and doesn't smell terrible either. Only nit picks I'd say are the showers need to run a tad longer as you do have to press it every second. It's a shame its closed for the month but will be worth it with the new equipment and new showers etc. As a gym to go to I'd definitely reccomend it to someone

Great gym, has a lot of equipment with multiple floors. The sauna is also very handy, regular classes included in the price which is fantastic but… One thing that I’ve noticed is the men’s changing room and toilets are literally DISGUSTING, I’d advise that the management take a walk into the gym and smell the changing rooms it’s horrible, and the bathroom is ALWAYS stinking of urine 🤢 definitely not cleaned regularly.

My brother had his bag stolen from his locker lock was broken off all his items stolen including his clothes. Staff were not really interested. They should have phoned the police. However he had to do it himself. There was a lack of customer care.

Good gym, amazing venue and quite a good variety of equipment. Few small things to complain about are the metal things to hold the weight which go constantly missing from machines and the drinking water which tastes disgusting, and the classes which are often full and there’s no way to book a spot so you have to get there 30 mins before it starts to get your spot.

  • 1/5 Vale C. 1 year ago on Google
Cute gym but classes are not really good, also isn’t really clean like toilets and carpets, and the machines are not disinfected. Dust everywhere!

Honestly so disappointed in my trip here, I really hope this JD in particular looks into the cleanliness asap. Machinery so dirty, whole place has a bad smell and half of the kit was broken or missing. Was more looking forward to jumping in the shower after. Such different vibes to any other JD gym I go to.

This gym is amazing! The PTs are so friendly and make you feel welcome as soon as you enter the gym. Particularly Rachel and Aimee's JD burn class, they are great motivators and you can clearly see that they enjoy there job and want to see you improve. Gym has a great atmosphere overall. :)
