Went for Sunday breakfast around 10am. Not expecting much as it is a wetherspoons afterall. But what I found was nothing short of diabolical. App wasnt working so I placed an order at the bar. I was served by an exceptionally hungover looking member of staff with zero front of house skills. Charged extra for a hot drink that should have been included with the price of my breakfast. Then selected hot chocolate out of the machine but received a cup of hot milk. Picked up 4 more cups that were either dirty on the inside or sticky on the outside. I had to go and wash my hands after handling each one! The hot drinks area had clearly not been cleaned in a while (I'm talking multiple levels of dirt. Not just from that morning) while making my drink a member of the kitchen staff came out to make himself a drink and looked filthy. Food finally arrived along with dirty cutlery. Food was cold, beans were dried onto the plate, eggs over cooked and sausages looked anaemic. All in all inedible. But tbh by that time, I really didn't want to eat in there anyway. I dread to think what their hygiene rating is!

You can't really fault the 'Spoons. I tend to pop in on a Sunday morning for breakfast which is perfectly decent and comes with refillable coffee in a quiet relaxed environment for well under a tenner. I'm sure at 10PM on a Saturday night the same pub is an entirely different environment, but perhaps that's the essence of a good pub at the end of the day. The staff are always sociable, from Jo at the bar to Irene the cleaner. I've also attached a photo of the carpet, as I believe some odd people like that kind of thing...

You can refill hot drink eternal time! The spicy pizza is very surprise, it look like normal , but it is really great! Have a lot of meat! It is a really nice experience!

Always a good place to go for decent priced food. One of the cleanest and brightest Wetherspoon I’ve been lol. Only downside is the bar area was a lil sticky and the coffee station was a lil messy. Could do with some staff checkin on it every now and then.

Serving staff were miserable. Both hot drinks machines ran out. No milk in jugs. Table was sticky from not being wiped down. Empty glasses from previous users just left and not cleared away.

A lovely pub. The small breakfast was delicious. There is plenty of seating. Lacked a little music for the lonely drinkers, like myself, but all in all the staff are really polite and friendly. Served with a smile. I will definitely visit again soon.

Went on a Friday, had fish and chips, complemented the kitchen on very nice hot food on hot plates. Real, ale was enjoyed by my husband, no complaints a good lunch time experience, staff very pleasant.

First port of call for today's pub crawl. Quick half of well-kept cask ale. Previous visit was to see a solo singer on a Saturday night. Always a good pint and friendly locals and staff.

This place has always been dirty, tables are all sticky, plates and glasses everywhere. Bar staff are stupid they don't think to clear up whilst walking around and the coffee machine is always broken.

Split level big room bar + outside seating. Lots of booth seating. Interesting ceiling. Real ales + staff excellent.

Food was luke warm. Did make a comment after I'd eaten. As I was on road from 8am and was to hungry to wait for another plate. It was 14.30. Nobody came to talk to me. Disgusted.

Updated review 091122 from below... Had one of those 6oz american burgers with cheese (2x3oz) and chips, with a pint £7.50. Can't grumble with the price, tasted ok, wasn't as substantial as I thought it would be (not recommended for a hard worker on its own), plate was heated, small amount of chips. Service despite being busy was quite good this visit. It's like McDonalds, you know what your going to get. The service isn't the best and you might have to ask to get your table cleaned but I think that's down to management coz the staff all appear to be multitasking non stop. The prices are great on the food and drink. Where else can you get a large wine and a pint for under a fiver. As in their advertisement sensible prices.

Just been served in the Wallasey Clairville. The lady called Kirsty has just been disgraceful to a gentleman who walked to the bar without realising there was a queue. I am sorry but she had no customer service skills. She then had a go at me because of the type of glass that she was pouring my drink into when I had already stated what glass I wanted. I am totally appalled at her behaviour. She bars people right left and centre. PLEASE GET HER INTO ORDER. Most of the staff here are fabulous especially Paula and Jane and Charlie

Not up to par with other ones we have eaten at. It is what you expect for the price but my partner and 2 others ordered the steak which normally would come with peas or something and it was just literally steak and chips. Also they said they dont have salad cream which would have been fine had the person telling me this not spoken to me with a horrible attitude (like I should know that). Then the coffee machine wasnt working. When the food arrived the chips were luke warm as if they had been sat waiting and was very dry. Overall certainly not the best Wetherspoons Ive been to in fact potentially one of the worst.

Excellent spacious pub , with , great selection of real ales , and , food menu. The only negative was that for 45 mins , the , young barman ( Ryan ) was on his own ( 3.30 - 4.15 pm ) . This meant a long queue to be served , and , was unfair on the barman. Hence I have deducted one star.

Amazing food, amazing vibes and amazing drinks and this coming from a girl who is picky with all 3... food, vibes and drinks. 😅😅 I think this place has become my new fave place in my area. Don't miss out the chance to visit here when you get a minute.

Absolutely the best fish and chips me and the wife have ever tasted in my 66 years of life. Light crispy low fat batter concealing melt in the mouth succulent large amounts of fresh cod. Amazing.

Really disappointed, took my mum and the children for a treat, we have been before and enjoyed it. The food was a problem. The children's food (pasta and pizza) wasn’t included in the meal deal. My little girl loves pasta but refused to eat it - looked like it had been poured out of a tin - she ate it eventually (holding her nose). My boys pizza was soggy and unappetising, he ate a slice. I had a steak, it was cooked nicely, but the accoutrements (which i paid extra for) were very stingey. My mum had fish and chips. The fish was mostly batter, and the peas were more like soup. We didn’t complain about any of the above. This was because we had already been made to feel very unwelcome by the staff - the young girls rolled their eyes and sniggered between themselves as they served us. Very unpleasant indeed. We always enjoyed our previous treats here, and will try again in the future … bit this was really disappointing,

Meals quite good..and the cheap drinks a big bonus..but very tired inside..hasn't been decorated for a few years now..needs a big one I think. Not much in the way of Christmas decorations there either so a bit of a subdued atmosphere..but still a good pub

Great staff. Terrible food. I had a cheese burger and chips. The chips were lovely but the burger was burnt and the bun was off it was rock hard in one side. As you can guess a eaten the chips and left half of the burger. I would definitely go again for a pint but I will give the burgers a miss.

Well every day is a school day. Poached eggs come in packets these days, who knew? I couldn't have poached eggs because they had run out, but they were able to do me fried eggs for my eggs benedict instead. It was a bit disappointing that when they came to me with the problem of having no eggs they had no solution in mind and left me ro suggest doing fried ones. I'm astonished that the chef can make fried eggs but doesn't know how to poach them. Anyway enough about eggs. It was nice, relaxed, quiet for mid morning in Wallasey and I always enjoy coming to the Clairville.

Staff try their hardest while obviously limited by micromanagement policies enforced from on-high. When a fault on the business-end lead to a wholly disrupted meal, a member of staff suggested I queue up to speak to the bar staff, meaning the food that did arrive would have been left to go cold. Ordered food recently using the app, the drinks arrived, and we discovered several meals had been wiped from the order. Staff tried their best to understand the issue, but had their hands tied by corporate bureaucracy - we couldn't order food at the till, because all the beef and chicken and various meal options had been sold out. By 5pm. Their solution was fruity grain bars. If I ran this bar, I'd have taken the hit as part of the country's biggest chain of pubs and refunded the order. But obviously not; maybe they aren't allowed (read: trusted) to use discretion, maybe they don't want to risk the ire of regional managers. Rumours the place is closing down due to being undercut, but that doesn't mean service should suffer in the meantime. Poor business practice.
