Booked table, no one to even ask had we booked a table, place not full so guess it didn't matter. Very few people in, stood at bar .... no acknowledgement by staff, 3 staff on behind bar. Poor service at table, meal OK, had better. Considering this pub was closed during all of lockdown you would have thought they would of had a better enthusiasm about themselves. Looked like new staff, poor customer service, won't be rushing back.

We have been loads of times and never had a problem but this time the food wasn’t what it said on the menu and the chicken wasn’t cooked and the staff wasn’t bothered about the complaint no one Come over after we complained about the food being uncooked the manager wasn’t even bothered and just carried on speaking with his friends and we will never come here again also there was only two friendly staff . I would give 0 stars but have to give it 1 to post.

I would Not recommend this place if you're going out for a Drink. It's more for food. The cask Beer would never win a CAMRA award it's awful. It's full of pensioners and feral kids. The manager and staff haven't got a clue about service. Maybe that's why the regulars left and went to the lighthouse and Farmers.👎

Service was outstanding and fast. Order food couldn't fault it. Would recommend for food or just drinks great atmosphere.

Booked table but employee forgot to put it down so no table for 15 manager managed to find a place and put some tables together after an hours wait for food it came, no sauces with steaks, chips hard in the middle, chicken burnt, food at table but no cutlery, other items ordered and paid for did not arrive. Was offered a refund and round of drinks but it was never about the money so didn't get it by this point the night was ruined as we were there to celebrate a birthday.... Never again very poor

When in for tea! Not very busy about 4 or 5 tables full. Order chicken, beef burgers, and chips twice. Beef burgers weren't fresh. Took it home and fed the birds with it.

We love the Nelson. Whether it's going for tea or just a quick pint the staff are always welcoming. There's always a great atmosphere and it's our favourite pub. The food is lovely and the selection of drinks is plentiful.

The good people of The Nelson yet again outdid themselves yesterday by catering to my visiting family's every need and being genuinely friendly, welcoming and attentive. I can't speak highly enough of them. Food was great and prompt, everyone enjoyed themselves and when your family's that happy and loves the management, staff and atmosphere then what more could you want? I recommend The Nelson to all decent people. First class! 👏👏👏👏

The food in this place was terrible, the chicken was god awful and chewy, and tasted off/expired the bacon was tasteless and the lasagne was too greasy and sloppy and tasted like it had been frozen and microwaved with oil just thrown on top. It was also very rough with gangs of lads sitting outside shouting making the experience overall awful and uncomfortable with a bad atmosphere

Oh my gosh,I've never been in here before ,went there this evening,great service but best of all,I have never had a mixed grill that had lot's of flavour to it and cooked to perfection but I did in here this evening and will definitely be going back. AMAZING

Disappointed as a very limited menu choice for non-meat eater. Loud club themed music playing in dining area - why?? Food was served quickly and ok. For a real ale drinker no choice available. Will not be returning anytime soon

We arrived around 18:00 for dinner, and the place was busy! To start, a table of 4 pushed in front and disregarded my younger children. Eventually I was served by a polite young lady, and was kindly informed of a 45 minute waiting time, so we decided to stay. Eventually our food turned up to the table, the chips were that cold, they must have been left in the chef's bowl, and he must have thought , I'll just serve these regardless! Overall, the food was cold, the lettuce on our tacos was brown, and when my food was taken away to be inspected by the chef, it was replaced with a very small portion of crispy chicken, that looked like it was overcooked. My military discount card was disregarded, so missed out on my hard earned £6.00 discount. I've catered for the masses on Operational tours, have been a head baker for one of the top football clubs in the country, and my guess, is the chef on duty tonight hasn't got any qualifications in catering, because the food was shocking at best. I definitely wouldn't eat here again!

Recently enjoyed a meal and drinks in The Nelson and was impressed with not only the lovely meal but how inviting and pleasant the staff and seating area was Would definitely go back again

Probably the evening could be characterised by miscommunication, but evwrything seemed to build up. A long wait for the food, which was on the whole, not worth the wait. The wings arrived with all kind of gunk over them, despite my asking for a BBQ dip only. No dip just smothered in different "flavoured" gunks. Of the three mains the steak and ale pie was nice. However, re the burger and chips. The (frozen) chips which were black. The chicken "tikka" had clearly been reheated in a microwave (skin around the edge of the bowl) was just overly hot without any flavour. Then to top the whole sorry saga off, as we were leaving I went to the bar asked for a receipt, as I thought I had paid when I ordered the meals and drinks as I had put my credit card in the card reader and entered my PIN. I also thought I would be asked if we had enjoyed our meals, which is the usual practice in most eateries and I could have expressed my dissatisfaction. Imagine my embarrassment when two bar operatives chased us out saying I hadn't paid. If I intended not to pay would I have gone to the bar and asked for a receipt? It was a shame that our party meet up only once a year and the experience marred the meeting. Greene King a bit of staff training might be a good idea.

Definitely my favourite pub' in Wirral. Lovely, friendly, helpful management and staff who work so hard. They make it a pleasure to visit. Great atmosphere in which to enjoy a drink, excellent food too. Excuse the pseudonym, this is Ian Johno👍

The staff couldn't do enough for you. It's was a pity the food originally came cold. Then the second time the food was just reheated. The staff behind the bar where great, they gave me a refund for the food

Called in for a drink and stayed for food! 10/10 for staff,service and food. Hubby has the stinger burger whilst had the stacker! Very tasty and very very filling! Gave the hubby one of the 2 burgers.... Staff really nice and friendly We will definitely be back soon ! Added bonus but one get one free on a Thursday with burgers.... See you next Thursday

We are at the nelson every week it is such a friendly pub and the staff are so friendly and helpfull also the food is so good and value for money .

Food was amazing and hot. Service was excellent, thanks to the young lady who helped me with the drinks, as I had to take a very important phone call. Highly recommended. xx

Visited tonight with my daughter for our tea on the way home. What an absolute joke!!! I ordered a haloumi salad taco as I wasn't very hungry. Daughters food was OK, its usually burnt to a crisp but tonight's offering wasn't too bad but if 3 pieces of singed haloumi, dry, brown leaves and 2 taco shells is acceptable then shame on you!!! I did tell the waitress but I cannot believe that was sent out as an order. Won't be visiting again, appalling food, you seriously need to have a word with your chef. I took pictures I was so appalled but won't allow me to upload.

We booked a table in the sports section to watch the rugby. Staff were very busy but most friendly and acomodating. The food was excellent. Thank you for an enjoyable evening

Linzi provided great lunch time service, nothing was too much for the staff. The food was good, its what you get for the price you pay. Cheap and cheerful.
