Great historical monument. In need of some repair and under private ownership. Closed when I was there as only open part-time. See website for opening times.

This a fabulous atmospheric building which stands next to an interesting ancient lighthouse. Walk round the outside to fully appreciate the Fort and lighthouse and the atmosphere they both create. What a shame though that there are no information boards explaining its history. Also, WHY is it being allowed to become so run down. There are two balcony like features at the seaward side that are crumbling. What were these used for? No information to tell us! All the money that's being spent on the promenade and this beautiful graded building being allowed to crumble. In my opinion its one of the best features of New Brighton. Oh, and the coffee and scones were very good in the cafe.

Unbelievable place, beautiful scenery, and as much as I hate to admit if ( cos I'm from Liverpool) but best beach in the area 100%

Great place to have a day out and a walk. Plenty to see and eat around new brighton promenade. Beach is normally kept pretty clean and life guards are always on duty during peak times. Portion of chips and some fresh sugared doughnuts are a must on every visit!

This is a lovely, quirky little cafe which serves the best coffee in the Wirral in my opinion. It is undergoing refurbishment but every improvement the owners do, adds more to its charm. The menu is not vast but it is a lovely place to sit out in the courtyard or on the walkway or inside near the wood burner. I wish the owners every success.

Went for lunch for the first time since opening at The Mess, a small Cafe located in Fort Perch Rock. Cosy space, great location. Only 9 tables inside, 3 staff in & not very busy on a rainy afternoon 1.30pm. Service? Ordered coffee, tea, panini, scone. Asked if scone came with jam/cream - yes. Settled down for a chat but still no drinks served 30 mins in, had to go to counter to ask. They had put order aside. Drinks to table. 10mins later still no food, so asked & again order put aside. Explanation - I don't know what's going on today. Was served food 45mins after ordering. Panini was not a panini but a bread roll toasted on a panini grill with 1 Sausage & 2 slices of bacon at a cost of £5.50. (Poor). Scone served with butter & jam,no cream £2.50. Coffee/tea - lovely. Need to rethink their menu under trade descriptions act. Was offered no apology or complimentry coffee/tea for long wait (drinks drank by time got food). Do recommend the drinks. Though improvements are certainly required for this business.

Nice place to grab a Coffee snack in the Cafe in the center of Perch Rock. Has a little outside seating area in the inside of the Castle or outside on the Walkway leading to it.

Little cafe inside is very nice. Considering the location the prices are very reasonable. They've also applied for a license to sell alcohol, for those who enjoy a pint whilst at the seaside 🤭

Lovely cafe.. although i think calling it a cafe is under playing it I would say its more a bar/venue. Great food, all drinks are available alcoholic and none. Although I didn't attend when they had a event on they were advertising upcoming that would be worth a return visit

Amazing venue, gorgeous staff, lovely food, recently attended a queen tribute night here, absolutely fantastic and such good value for money. Brilliant night. Would highly recommend.

Went to a concert here and saw ultimate coldplay. Great concert in the ourt yard of an historic fort. Will definitely be going again. Drinks price not too bad ample toilets. Shame about the weather but was under a marquee.

The good lady and I visited to see the Duran Duran tribute band. After a slowish first half, the second set picked up and showcased most of the big hits. The gig was in a marquee, and it looked like it might succumb to the very gusty wind, but it survived the night. Beer was £4.50 for a can of John Smith's. So to summarise: windy (not FPR's fault, overpriced drinks (definitely down to them), band was on the good side of OK. Me being an old f*rt ex-musician, I could see there was quite a bit not played live on the keyboards, but overall the sound was good. Not sure about standing up for another 2-3 hours to see another band. Perhaps if it is a Dire Straits tribute it will be worth the back and foot ache...

Went to watch Chris Slade and Powerage UK. The set up was brilliant, even though it rained it didn't spoil the gig. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall an excellent evening and great setting

I've advised buying tickets in advance because they hold ticketed events so, you have to buy a ticket to participate but normal entry is free. The cage staff are friendly and the food is very nice and well presented. There was a very fun and entertaining Lunch With Santa event through December which I was lucky enough to see and all thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend The Mess!

Absolutely beautiful place. The cafe is so comfortable with an open log fire, keeping us warm on a cold day. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. I love places that accept dogs, and they even have a dog menu! My dog Theo loved having his sausages after a run on the beach.

Lovely cafe, great location in this iconic building. Friendly staff ,good choice of snack meals, desserts and drinks and reasonably priced. Indoor seating does allow dogs but also has outdoor seating at front and rear of cafe. We'll worth a visit while on day out to New Brighton.

This review is about "The Mess" cafe for which now there is a separate gmaps entry. Shall paste this there. Nice place to stop or a rest and grab some refreshments. You can sit inside or there are seating areas at the back and sometimes a couple of table on the way in. The Fort itself is not open for tours as far as I know. Many thanks

It was really nice. There is a lovely cafe inside. We could have some coffee and also had a lovely chat with the employee there that told us about the history of the place. Can't wait to stop by again

Lovely strange building at the end of the pier. Also see in the photos that somebody actually lives at the end of the fort. Usually a cost for this I wasn't able to entre due to being closed. Worth to look at really and see the history of New Brighton.

Only been here once...coffee good and expensive ... nice place...educated staff...would of liked to visit the museum to see about the local history.... unfortunately it was closed... Will return to the area again... New Brighton has improved a lot over the last few decades and even had people having a picnic on the beach..

Visited the cafe, which sadly is the only part of the fort that is open to the public. Access to the toilets is the only way to access the main courtyard. If this fort was anywhere else in the UK it would be a major tourist attraction. It could be here.

  • 2/5 Mandy F. 4 years ago on Google
Stunning views of the lighthouse, ships coming into Liverpool but there was no access to the Fort which looked a bit run down

Very nice place, with free parking which fits 120 cars. The location is excellent as you are based near the promenade, with various restaurants, cafés, a cinema and a retail park. The beach is lovely, And it all makes an enjoyable day out especially on a sunny weather! Enjoyed my time here, would recommend.

It’s been closed for ages, such a shame. They need to do something with it!

So beautiful and clean. Well maintained and the beach was big enough to share and walk. Picnics are good. Recommend you check the tides before you go incase u get to wait a bit longer for the tide to go back in.

Quirky little place we visited on a walk along the front at New Brighton. Just happened to have the Back to The Future DeLorean on show and the Wirral Samba Drummers playing.... Lovely relaxed afternoon 🙂

Nice new cafe in the fort (3 days open at the time). It has some outside seating to sit in the forts interior but it's not assessable to freely walk around. Quite a nice latte and hot chocolate but could be hotter? No obvious toilets we saw
