I've driven down the main road that bisects the park countless times but only now I'm moving into the area did we visit. For some reason I was under the completely inaccurate preconception that it was a bit rough. Couldn't have been more wrong. The place is absolutely beautiful and really chilled. We go there most weekends now and really appreciate this wonderful local resource. Oh, and it's absolutely massive!

I’m from the Wirral, and so have always known of Birkenhead Park. I walked through it quite a lot when I went to Sixth Form, but haven’t really appreciated just how lovely a space it is until the last year or so. The gardens are well looked after, even on Sunny days it’s never really too busy (unless in the playground, haha) and the wildlife are so calming. I think it’s one of the best places the borough has to offer! The visitor centre is usually pretty busy, and the prices aren’t that great, but what I’ve had from there has been tasty.

No gangs, no litter , people obviously take pride in this beautiful historic park, and volunteers do a marvellous job, maintaining it. Thanks to them.

I took a train journey to New Brighton last week and on route I stopped off for some time in Birkenhead Park. Living in Liverpool I’m lucky to have access to a park within a 10 minute walk of my house. I had never been to Birkenhead Park before and as a keen photographer, I thought I’d spend a bit of time there. Literally out of Birkenhead Park station and a couple of minutes walk down the road, I’d arrived. The weather was on my side and the park looked huge. I could’ve spent longer here but in truth, I had come to photograph the Swiss Bridge and the Roman Boathouse. An extended stay will wait til next time. The park was fairly busy but I expected it given the weather 25c πŸ₯΅ There seemed to be an information center not far from the entrance. I’m uncertain if there were toilet facilities there as I never went in the building. Generally, the park was very clean and tidy, no signs of vandalism and a nice place for a family picnic and space for the kids to play and run around in safety.

Paths, trees, a pond (buy a bag of waterfowl feed at the park’s visitor centre, beside the cafΓ©), play areas, benches, dog areas. Very nice park.

Lovely place to walk and enjoy the wildlife. The first publicly funded park in the world and the one that central Park new York is based on. Celebrating 175 years this year

This is a beautiful historic park. I'm surprised it's not as busy as Sefton Park, with its playgrounds and visitors centre, but maybe it was because I went in the rain.

We were recommended to visit this park whilst work was being done on our van. To say it holds a bit of history would be an understatement! The first ever municipal Park and the inspiration for Central Park in New York but two claims that don't get much publicity. The visitor centre is a must place to start if you are new to the area, where the history is well told, and there is a great cafΓ©. Some great walks and surprise corners, and impressive architecture. We intend to return in the spring to see the place in all its glory. Yes I'd recommended.

Wide open green spaces for everyone to enjoy. You can even spot Radio City Tower from parts of the park. Lovely for a stroll, a run, a picnic or quiet contemplation. Anything you like.

Beautiful park, winding paths and lots of opportunities for children to climb rocks. The lake is very picturesque with many places to have a picnic (own seating required). Squirrels and pigeons very happy to be fed peanuts all day, kids loved getting close to them. Toilets available in the cafe. The cafe does decent food, but the ice creams are expensive. There's an Ice-cream van in the park but Β£3.50 for a cone was a ridiculous price.

Such a stunning park, visited family and our air bnb was right opposite- we had no idea how big or beautiful this park would be. Lovely cafe in the middle and the fattest squirrel gangs ever. Loved it

Very nice for a walk, the cafe is excellent and has a great choice of ice creams which they can turn into shakes. Nice coffee and pleasant staff. The park has a nice path around making easily accessible for wheel chairs/buggies but also some rough paths for kids to explore.

Birkenhead Park is the blue print for all public parks. It was opened in 1847 and is grade 1 listed for its landscape and buildings. Central Park in New York was based on this Park. It's a beautiful setting with football pitches, a cricket ground, rugby pitch, children's play area, lake, visitor centre and cafe. This is an historic treasure, of which Birkenhead can be rightly proud. Great place for families or walking. When you leave, take time to look at the outstanding houses around the edge of the park.

Lovely park, with large lake & bridges. Good paths. Playground & good visitors centre. Parking is now in side roads as the gate access for cars has been locked since COVID. Great for dog walking in the mornings, not sure about later in the day. The park is at present being considered as a UNESCO heritage site

Large, spacious and pleasant to cycle around or spend a few hours taking in the views on a sunny day! Me and my friend spent a few hours appreciating the wildlife around the bodies of water and feeding the squirrels πŸ™‚. It's easy to forget you're in Birkenhead when you're wandering around the park.

Would like to give more, unable to park in grounds to access Disabled Wheels for all.Nearly got run down trying to cross to park from where I parked.Too tired to do much as I struggle to walk anywhere, I need crutches to attempt a walk. The cycling was very hard to do, but I'm going to try again soon. Toilets too far away to use, had to use a sports hut, it was dirty ,there was no soap or dryer, the floors wet and so not great. But I took my water tablets so needed to use facilities. Would love to look round but too exhausting.

Love our local Park. Beautiful nature walk feeding squirrels and birds. Fab play area for the children. Great cafe. Clean toilets. The best ice cream I've tasted in a long time. Lovely, no matter what season you visit. It is a beautiful green space.

Lovely park to walk round, plenty for kids to do with the huge open spaces, play park and great place to walk the dogs as well. Pity some people don't clean up after them though especially on main paths but always see maintenance guys around tending to the park which is fantastic

Birkenhead Park is an incredibly special: a masterpiece of landscape design. Since it opened in 1847, this extensive parkland has provided a much-needed sanctuary for people to escape the busy urban environment. The Park's designer, Joseph Paxton, created a place which replicated the pastoral countryside, while at the same time incorporating an assortment of features such as lodges, bridges, and a boathouse. All this is still very much evident today, and visitors can enjoy the delights of the varied landscape – the open meadows and the intimate lakeside walks – and discover the parkland’s many treasures. The Park offers a wide range of facilities, including a Visitor Centre with a cafΓ©, a playground for children, beautiful woodland walks, a fitness trail, two cricket clubs, tennis courts, bowling greens, football pitches and 2 large fishing lakes. A day out at Birkenhead Park offers something for everyone, and all within the grounds of one of the most important public parks in the world.

Beautiful historic park with many original features. Surrounded by beautiful architecture with Asian inspired bridges, migratory birds, sports field and many well maintained paths to explore. The inspiration for Central Park in New York City. Dog and child friendly and a great weekend trip and well worth a visit for tourists to Liverpool or Wirral.

Lovely park to visit. Has lots of open spaces with grass and trees for picnics of dog walking. There is an awesome lake to walk round with lots of animals and nature. There is a play area for children with swings and slides. It also has a visitors centre with information about upcoming events, a cafe and public toilets. It also has quite a history, Birkenhead Park was the first public park in England and the inspiration for Central Park in New York. Well worth a visit.

The kids love playing in the playground, climbing the rocks, feeding the ducks and having a picnic in the boat house. It's well maintained and easy to access. The only downside was that the toilets were locked at. The time.

Kids loved the visitor centre the only problem was dropping them off. All gates were locked even though website says otherwise.

I m sure there are several glowing reviews of Birkenhead Park here on Google already but..I will add my positive thoughts. The Park opened in 1847 is the jewel in the crown in Birkenhead. Extensively renovated and improved some 15 years ago by Wirral Council : the Park is a must visit. Two separate parks divided by a road, leach with its own lake , swans, geese etc and attractive relaxing walkways well looked after makes the park a constant source of relaxation for many in the area. Yes it was the first municipal park to inspire New York s Central park by it's design and as a local to the park I say this if you don't know Birkenhead Park ? Visit asap it's has much to commend it. An attractive modern visitor centre and cafe also add now to its charms. SM.

what an amazing piece of work and such a strong message as well as very emotional, we should have a reminder like this in every city as a constant reminder that knife crime or any crime is not ok ever xx

Such a nice walk with lovely scenery. But don't think it's a solo trip, there were people milling about that were quite dodgy, also people camping with tents and others fishing. I was just glad I was with another person.
