Lovely little pub, fantastic food. Had the half pound cheese burger (served with fries and coleslaw) caramelised onions on the burger was a pleasant surprise and the chips were perfectly cooked

As the name suggests.. It's a traditional pub, and a very good one. Located a very short walk from Hamilton Square railway station. Its got a naval vibe inside with lots of pictures relating tosea faring... Mainly merchant navy which is appropriate for the area. Cosy and interesting interior with quite a modern rear outside section which is partly sheltered. Well kept real ale and serves food. Recommended 🍻 🚢

Loved it, friendly staff and the pub was full of military memorials, we came up from Birmingham to watch the Tranmere game and popped in here to ask for a taxi to the ground, wish we could have stayed longer as they only sold my favorite rum behind the bar....Bumbu X

I've had many excellent pints of ale at Gallagher's, but the cask ales on my last visit were decidedly below par, which was a surprise and a real shame. The proprietor has recently taken over other bars in Wirral and I wonder if this is why Gallagher's appear to have taken their collective eye off the metaphorical ball in terms of cask ale quality. Reply to owners reply: 1. I wrote the review in the first place because I was prompted to review my visit by Google. 2. I did not give you a bad review. Check the maths; how can you consider 3/5 stars or 60% a bad review? One star would have been a bad review. The beer in Gallagher's was below par on this occasion, not undrinkable, which is why i didn't return it. If it had been undrinkable, you would have received a 1 star review. 3. I have taken many pints of undrinkable ale back to different bars in my time and your epithet of "keyboard warrior" has no justification. 4. I was part if a group, drinking different beers. The lager was fine, the Plum porter and the Trapper's Hat were not up to your usual standard.

Terrific old Birkenhead pub thats won countless CAMRA awards for their range if beers, ciders & perrues over the years. Anyone with a passing interest in the armed forces will be fascinated by the display of framed photo's all around the walls & collection of military caps on shelves behind the bar. Also, the beer garden is really quite large & can be covered in the winter months so is also used as a venue on Sunday nights by bands. I seriously recommend this pub!

Great pub grub, friendly staff, great range of drinks in a traditional style setting in a larger than expected area, with large beer garden and good music selection 😊👍

Traditional naval/military pub stacked with memorabilia from across the British armed forces. Good beer. Friendly staff. Clean comfortable and an enormous neutral beer garden area. A treasure

Very heavily themed decor that feels almost like a museum. Doesn't compromise on good beer and attracts friendly folk

Still fantastic food, the pizzas are to die for. Add the real ales - white rat and one I hadn’t tried before Mosaic, plus Aspalls cider on draught. It’s magic.

Absolutely delightful place. A real proper traditional British Pub. They kept the kitchen open for us as we arrived pretty late, there was a lovely snug room we all sat in by the window. The beer was good and the food was warming.

Went in the other Sunday afternoon with my father and 15 year old nephew. Was surprised to be refused to be served even non-alcoholic drinks and food because of my nephew. I wanted to show him the military bric-a-brac as who is looking to join up. I feel Gallagher's needs to be more open minded and accept families at certain times. It is not always busy so more customers would be welcome. We simply went to the pub next door and promptly put £20 in their till!

What a place, very deceiving from the outside!! A really long thin bar leads to an outside area. Naval memorabilia adorns the walls. Friendly locals lead to enjoyable conversations. A range of well kept real ales were on offer. 👍👍

Excellent venue for live music especially the Broken Strings and Remnants plus very tasty pizzas. Good choice of beers and the main bar area is well covered with television screens for football matches.

Possibly the finest traditional real ale pub in Birkenhead if not Merseyside. The facilities are second to none as are the staff that work there. The range of beers are always top notch. Parking is a problem however although the car park behind the Hamilton Square station at £3 all day is only a five minute walk away and it’s supervised.
