We went for an early tea. Staff really friendly. Food was good. Got quite busy while we were there. If you want food that's not too highbrow but quality pop in and try the Bassett hound.

Very poor plates of food today. Chicken and chips in a basket consisting of 2 pieces of chicken at the cost of £12 My partner ordered a panini and fries that looked incredibly poor value for £8. The service was efficient and friendly but 2 hours later I was starving.

Excellent food and a lovely place to visit. Plenty of parking spaces inc. at least 4 electric recharging points . Best to ring up before setting off, especially during lunchtimes Mon-Fri, as it is a popular venue for funeral wakes and it can be fully booked.

Fantastic experience for our sons 30th birthday. Food was spot on, piping hot and really tasty. Everyone was super happy with their meals. Reasonably priced food and drink and team member Lisa was super attentive and friendly.

Lovely summer evening, watching the traditional Morris Dancing, with the sun slowly going down behind the trees, feeling very English, friendly, and peaceful. Pub well maintained and welcoming, outdoor seating, large car park (but by no means empty!) Electric car charging points available.

Lovely pub. Very cosy, we have been coming here for years and absolutely love it. We noticed a few little additions this time, little touches that warm the place up. We like the lights with ivy in the bar area and we think the blankets are very cute. There is a good energy to this place and look forward to popping in for many years to come. Thank you for always looking after us.

Just spent a pleasant couple of hours here today. The restaurant was exceptionally busy, but the staff were really pleasant and helpful. The food was really tasty. I would like to give a special mention to Josh!!! an absolute credit to your business.

We were seated for meal, ordered drinks and was about to order food when we realised we'd left payment card at home. The manager offered we could eat and pay from home! We managed to download a card to pay for everything but the staff were amazing 👏. The food arrived and it was lovely. We will definitely be going back. Very reasonably priced, clean, bright space.

Visited a few weeks back, and what a disappointment. Asked for a pint of lager, & it was flat. I raised this with the polite bar staff, however, another pint was poured. This was again flat and served. Probably should have left after this, I feel the draught pints needs improving and there is lack of choice on offer.

Came here after a funeral. Service was friendly and efficient and the buffet was fantastic. The Basset Hound played a big part in making the day special. Thanks all!

We had my mum's funeral there yesterday. The buffet food they surplied was amazing. It was all freshly cooked and lots of it. Great value for money and the staff were amazing. I would highly recommend this place

We had not been for a meal for around 12mths due to poor service experienced during our last visit. As it is a local business, which should be supported, we booked a table for two on the 25 October. After being seated, we ordered drinks before ordering food. The starters arrived and we advised the waitress that our drinks were still awaited. We also informed her that both starters were missing the mayonnaise. The drinks were brought to the table and shortly after the mayonnaise. The waitress apologised for the problems experienced and advised the manager had confirmed that our drinks and puddings would not be charged. The main course was as ordered. We ordered puddings with a request for clotted cream ice cream with the brownie sundae. When the pudding arrived, it contained chocolate ice cream and was not as ordered. Good job neither of us have any food allergies as despite our order being taking it appears the kitchen staff serve what they consider we want. It will be sometime before we consider returning.

Wow how can a pub go down so much in a short space of time. Firstly my daughter’s food was brought out wrong, my partners food was dry as anything I had ever tasted and the rest of the food being Luke warm. But fair play it was replaced without question. We have come here for the past 15 years and have never had an issue. Staff seemed under prepared and stretched. Obviously the change in management hasn’t helped. Hopefully this is just a one off occasion

Absolute shambles. Booked a table for 16 in advance. When we came to order food the bar staff were rude and unfriendly. When we ordered food 2 meals were completely wrong, by the time their food came out everyone else had finished theirs. We asked for sauces and they never returned, we had to ask the table next to us to let us use there's. When we ordered desserts we ordered coffees and then after waiting 30 minutes a waifress came and told us they ran out of coffee! Staff were apologetic but there was a bald man with glasses who was particularly rude. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Would not recommend

We had a buffet here after a funeral at the Landican. It was for 50 guests, we had our own private area, the staff were welcoming, the food was great, more than enough and it is a nice pub/restaurant.

Great little boozer for family and friends, dogs allowed and a great Hobbit like look to the fireside section. Plenty of books if you fancy just buying a pint and having a read.

Just Outstanding! Sunday lunch with Mum and family. 3 of us had the Trio of roast (Turkey, beef and Turkey). And my sister had scampi and chips. All four meals were cooked to perfection. We also had an extra portion of crispy roasties which are beautifully cooked too. This pub has it all it’s beautiful inside and out with exceptional service from all the staff from start to finish. The menu has something for everyone including a good choice of wine at very reasonable prices. You won’t find a better roast dinner at the price The Basset hound charge. Quality fresh produce served within a relaxed atmosphere

For our car club we hold at the Basset Hound , this has been an excellent venue thru out the year. Staff have been brill. We recently had our christmas meal for 29. TOP CLASS !!!

Booked through the website and travelled specially for Sunday lunch only to be told on arrival that roasts are not available due to continued equipment problems. Then informed about the lack of starters we requested. On arrival both “simple”main meals were very unspectacular and rather disappointing quality especially after reading the reviews prior to booking. Even the easy 2 drink order was Wrong. Provided with desert menu and gave up waiting after 45 minutes to order - would hate to try when the pub was full … It seems a shame that in these times when a meal out is a treat that we have been let down and disappointed. I certainly will not be recommending this pub to family and friends.

A stop off for lunch on our way home from a weekend away. We both had lamb hotpot pie which was lovely. Staff were so pleasant, helpful & very hard working. Would definitely return.

My wife and I dropped in on spec for evening meal yesterday. The reception was pleasant and helpful, even though the pub was well patronised by families having a drink. The menu was sufficiently varied, and the service (from Kayleigh) excellent.

We sat in the older part at a private function. Very helpful staff, food good. A characterful pub. Loved the viking history wall! Recommended.

Such a lovely atmosphere, so welcoming and the staff are kind and friendly. The gentleman behind the bar especially was just very warm and caring. My mum and I enjoyed the food. Thanks

Lovely pub, good service, decent Sunday roast at a good price. Served quickly and food was quick to the table. Paid £50 for 4 Sunday roasts and a small bowl of mashed potato for my baby granddaughter.

Great lunch here today. Fish was easily large enough to satisfy me, and the mushy peas were the best I've had in a long time - very tasty and (more important) not dry. The other half had the open chicken BLT, which she thought was filling and tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was cheerful. Would recommend this pub for a lunch any day.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable Lunch at the Basset today, sitting outdoors in the garden on a sunny May day the food and drink was most enjoyable. Coupled with friendly and efficient service all troubles seemed so very far away. As this isnt a fast food establishment ones eyes tend to wander. Sadly the exterior of the hostelry looked rather tired and in need of TLC with paint peeling, window boxes empty, rainwater guttering disconnected and the down pipe just hanging from its brackets. Provisions for the watering of hanging baskets were in situ, sadly the baskets or plants were missing. The whole building just looks neglected and one cant help but wonder, if the front of house looks in a dilapidated state, what will it be like behind the scenes although they displayed a food hygiene rating of 5. But these inspections can be quite infrequent.

Went for a drink with a friend. Had a great time. The staff are wonderful, so friendly, helpful and go the extra mile at the drop of a hat. Excellent food and service. Thoroughly reccomend going here. It's in a beautiful setting and a really peaceful atmosphere.

Had a lovely time in the basset hound, they put on lovely food, it was my mums funeral and staff were really nice and very welcoming. Would highly recommend here.

Nice pub, with friendly, cheerful and helpful staff. It has a nice beer garden and is well decorated inside which makes for a pleasant drinking / eating area. There is a good selection of food on the menu, we had Sirloin stake on the last visit which was cooked as requested and very nice. The pub is a Greene King pub, they have an excellent app from which you can book tables, order food / drink to your table and pay very easily. The pub has been set up well to aid social distancing, with all the staff wearing face masks. We will definitely go again.

Cosy atmosphere. Staff were helpful and friendly. On this occasion I didn't eat but the food coming from the kitchen looked amazing. I'll be going back.
